  • The Arizona winter is not all sunshine and rainbows, and this is one windy week. When the dust settles, we’ll take you along for a few “typical” volunteer workdays. Plus, join us for a tour of the popular Palm Canyon trail at Kofa National Wildlife Refuge.
We’re Charles and Jill, and we’re volunteering as work campers at Kofa refuge in our Bigfoot 25RQ travel trailer with our two cats. We're glad you're here to share the adventure, as we get to know our new enormous back yard. #workcamping #rvlife
Please note that drones and trail cameras are not allowed on the wildlife refuge, and “commercial” videography is currently not allowed on federal lands. We applied for and were granted a special use permit during the process of being hired as work camping volunteers.

Charles did you make the bracket for the solar panels to put them on a angle?, how did you determine how much angle? Thank you!

Jeff, I used mounting brackets from AM Solar:
      amsolar.com/shop/mounting-accessories/
These prevented the need for penetrations as they use VHB tape to secure to the roof of our fiberglass trailer (doesn't work on a membrane roof). I did make a couple brackets for added security:
      th-cam.com/video/rHVKxIp0o7g/w-d-xo.html
The length of the tilt legs will vary per panel size, so you'll have to do some trig to figure that out.
I bought tilt legs to set our panels at approximately 25 degrees. I didn't really do the calculations to make the tilt perfect for any given circumstances; it was really just to get them up and doing better than being flat on the roof. It would be nice to have adjustable ones, but this does a nice job for us.

Hello!! Always look forward to your next video 😊. The girls look happy and content. Snuggles and good scratches to them 😻.
I think of big horn sheep being farther north so that was really nice to see. And those palms are amazing. The desert holds many wonders if one has the eyes to look and see.
So glad you got the mecanical issues worked out. Well done on the painting job. I dislike painting, in general, but what a difference a clean new coat makes.
After what seems like months of heavy cloud cover and rain, with only rare bits of very sporadic sunshine, we have finally cleared up here for a time and it is just SO wonderful. On the downhill side of winter now and heading for springtime 🌷🌿🌞.
Take care!! See you next time 🥰.

Yay for springtime coming! We are really looking forward to that here (can't complain about the temperatures, but the creepy crawlies are mostly still hiding underground). Desert bighorn sheep are less numerous than the ones up north, and it's exciting to have a viable population here.

Thanks for another great video. Wondering how you empty your black and grey water tanks? Do you have to move your trailer somewhere to a dump station? How often?

Hi Claire, we were provided a porta potty that is serviced every two weeks by a sanitation company, so we haven't been using our black tank. Dumping gray water in the desert is prohibited but given our unique situation it's the only practical solution so we have special permission to do that. Our tanks are 45 gallons each, so we would need to dump the blackwater every few weeks if we were using it, and the gray water more often. (Generally we fill up with freshwater and dump graywater every five days.)

Well, on the one hand yes, we miss Vermont. But on the other hand, if we were there right now we would be missing Vermont-in-the-summer!
