Reminds me of the Oliver 1800 that was baling hay in the video for Rain on the Scarecrow (Blood on the Plow).

Great story, and a great find. She's a workhorse still; and it's nice to see such a fine example of a landmark tractor in the hands of someone who knows and appreciates what she is. So many of these tractors have been used hard and questionably maintained that it's nice to see a survivor this nice. Well do I remember when the 4-didgit Olivers were released; my uncle Theodore, an Oliver man himself, taking me to a local dairy one Sunday morning before church to see both a 1600 and an 1800 recently purchased at our local dealer in China Grove, NC. The 1800 was hooked to their two-row Fox silage chopper and the 1600 to a John Deere feed wagon.

Oliver66FarmBoy I to love the sound of the old diesel engine nocking sounds when first started cold. We have a International Harvester/ Farmall 1456 diesel straight piped no turbo. I love to hear the old nocking sound when we fire her up and she is warming up.

Monhaut Holsteins Well buddy at this point I honestly cant say. Its gonna depend on what dad has going on in the shop and how many hours Pioneer has me working so we are just gonna hafta play it by ear. Before I would say yes would also probably wanna come look the tractor over and see if we can figure out the problem first so I know exaclty what kind of project im getting into and get a guestimate of how much it may cost you to fix. I sure would like to though.

It's always nice to find a service record with used equipment.
Marvel mystery oil and ATF makes a good fuel treatment. The ATF adds sulfur for lubrication and the marvel free's everything up even more.
Maybe you can answer this. Can the bull gears on my 1850 can be turned around and swapped from side to side? The wear is just through the hard facing, but not all the way across the teeth. Any more hard pulling is going to wear them out quick.

1850oliver180AC Yes you should be able to flip them. Weather or not the gears will still hold up is another quesion because they might start splintering on the side the hard surface is wore off of when the teeth flex, which is what happened to this tractor. The bull gears dont see nearly as much strain as the bull pinions though so I think you would be alright.

Oliver66FarmBoy I haven't seen the bull pinions in it, they aren't visible with just the hydraulic unit off.

It's easier on all tractors to plug them in. I don't like to see what cold starting does to engines. I like the 1800 but not the tricycle front end so much. Guess I remember moldboard plowing with them, years ago. Pulled a 3 bottom with a Moline 3-Star and when you got that front end down in the dead furrow it was a pain. I like your chain guide but we didn't have one. Does this 1800 have the builders signature and hp? Some Olivers had that you know... of course you do.

+Bill Whitman I wouldnt take anything but a narrow front for a planting tractor cause it will spin around on one wheel. And no, Oliver didnt start doing certified horsepower till the 50 series came out.

I think (ok, I know) you're right. Our 1600 didn't have it but our 1855 did. The salesman made a special point to show it.

Jim Pickus I believe stock is 72, but Im thinking this one is pushing around 80 since the head has been decked at least once and im pretty sure the pump has been turned up a little bit.
