    Thank you, everyone, for your comments about the jump cuts. We agree with you, we are experimenting to try to improve our editing and will make mistakes, so please forgive us, we won't force jumpcuts on you again.

    Ben is quite patient. After getting bubbles the second time I would have contemplated putting little toy fish in the pools just to have a scapegoat for the bubbles.

    Please, please, please, PLEASE don't do jumpcuts. At least not all the time all the time all the time all the time all the time all the time all the time all the time all the time. Ben has such a nice rhythm naturally, don't ruin that.

    If you can get a vacuum chamber, putting the resin in there to draw out the air from the resin will work wonders for future projects. Cheers!

    Ben, I have fallen foul of the resin pockets on my work in the past. Found coating with CA glue seals the wood and bonds securely to the surface while leaving a microfine roughness which the resin sticks very nicely to.

    FINALLY
    But I would suggest you try to fix the audio, there's some nasty distortion going on. Turn down that compressor!
    EDIT: I'm not sure if I like the jumpcuts or not. Weird to see them here but they are done well.

    Quite interesting! I will join the ranks here that think this video has WAY too many jumpcuts in it. Less is more and all.

    Had a nice surprise when I spotted a Crimson burnt Raw Series Descendent in a guitar shop while on holiday in Scarborough recently. I then had a great conversation with the shop keeper about this TH-cam channel

      Crimson Custom Guitars Thanks. This channel has so far been really helpful with my own guitar building project. I recently finished designing the body shape etc. and have started building it using the project space at my university

    I saw on another video they pour resin from a height like you do, but they use a sieve just a normal cooking sieve half way between the height of the pour. It works really well I had not seen you try this method.

      It looks fancy but is also a waste of time. There are so much easier and simpler methods.

    I know the sizes are quite different, but in smaller resin casting a pressure pot (like a modified spray paint bucket) is often used to eliminate bubbles and get a crystal clear finish. Not sure how you could adapt this to fit a whole guitar but it might be a starting point to investigate? Can't wait to see the finished guitar, jump cuts or no hehe :)

    I, for one, am glad to see editing of the videos to better focus the content. Keep the cuts, they help the video stay on task.

    Really didn't mind the jumpcuts. Don't know why everyone is freaking out about them. I've been subscribed to CCG for a really long time now, but I've gotten into the habit of ignoring a lot of their uploads... why? -because of the 15... 20... 30 minute long videos. I'm not interested in skipping around to get to the interesting bits, so I tend to avoid them altogether. Editing like this is how denser, more interesting content is created. I personally welcome the change. If people really want to watch every trivial task involved in lutherie, why not do a stream? I'm positive people would watch.

  • @jaythornhill

    Thanks for an amazing channel! Discovered you guys before christmas, and have been watching relentlessly since then. One question: Would it be possible to dye the resin before applying, say, to a ruby red or sapphire blue?

    • @rnichol22
      @rnichol22 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can 100% dye epoxy resin in fact you can mix just about anything into epoxy within reason check out some of the creations youtube

    Use a vacuum chamber on your epoxy next time it will pull all your bubbles prior to pour

    Do you burnish your scrapers to get their edge back? I was told that was the thing to do.

  • @doegywhail728
    @doegywhail728 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    would it have been possible to use a another form of clear tough wearing varnish or seal over the top, that would fill the bubbles that were near the surface? or is that just crazy talk?

  • @MonsieurTourette
    @MonsieurTourette 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In hindsight (and being an absolute novice at woodworking) couldn't you just seal the whole top with resin?
    Like... a millimetre of resin to protect the finish?
    Obviously this is a tangent to the bubble-problem but I was wondering if that wouldn't look a little more homogenous.

    • @CrimsonCustomGuitars
      @CrimsonCustomGuitars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, resin can be used as a finish but generally we would just spray a lacquer over instead which would achieve the same result, which would be more homogeneous than what I did here for sure.. B
