  • Before the $100,000 Name That Tune was revived for a five-day-a-week syndicated run, a week of pilots were taped that would ultimately be aired as part of the run. A few of them can be found elsewhere if you look, but this would happen to be the first of them, with contestants Diana and Alfred vying for the chance to gain admittance into the $100,000 tournament through the Golden Medley.
Watch as these two get VERY unusually intense during Bid-a-Note!

Hilarious! From the way they were jinxing each other in the second roung, Bid-a-Note was going to be nasty. :)

at 0:46 i notice a scene change and the clothing for Jim Lange is different. it went from dark blue to light gray

0:50 wtf. That's a really big jump of a cut. You either got two different pilots and spliced them together, or Jim Lange changed clothes at the speed of light.

That would explain the different looking set.

The double wheel was pretty cool. I always wondered how they got the center to shine the way it did with the bullseye. I really liked the Coliseo font for the logo and Tune Topics. Every time I see the Goodyear logo, I think of this show. I would like to know what the chyron font is.

I can see why Diana might have been mistaken on "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by The Eurythmics since that was released in early 1983 and not 1984 as Lange indicates here.

These pilots aired in part because one of the contestants on this week of shows won the Golden Medley. Aired I think the week of March 18-22,. 1985 on KYW Philly.

I find that fact quite interesting, because from what I understand many pilots stage the outcomes in order to best sell the show. And this is one where they could've very easily taken that route.
