Second Beach is one of Metro Vancouver’s most popular beaches. This is especially the case for young families, and for good reason. The beach is located on the western edge of Stanley Park just south of Third Beach. The address of the concession stand at the beach is 8501 Stanley Park Drive.
The beach itself is excellent, although not as large as some others. What does make it special, though is that it’s home to one of the Lower Mainland’s best outdoor swimming pools.
The pool at Second Beach is heated, open from May to September and has lifeguards and a small water slide. It costs about $7.00 for adults or $3.50 per person for families. Exact pool date openings and prices for the 2024 season are to be confirmed.
Special Events at Second Beach
In addition to its regular features like the beach, seawall and swimming pool, a couple of great special events also take place at Second Beach during the summer.
The main event at Second Beach in July and August is the weekly Stanley Park Summer Cinema. This is held on Tuesday evenings. Thousands of people turn out to eat popcorn, hang out with their friends and then watch a free featured movie on a giant screen.
There’s a special movie night in June close to National Indigenous Peoples Day as well. Before the outdoor film begins, there are Indigenous market vendors, live entertainment and more at Second Beach. Second Beach can also be a good place to see the Celebration of Light Fireworks in late July or the beginning of August.
Viewing the fireworks from Second Beach isn’t as close-up and impressive a viewing point as right in the heart of the action at the beach at English Bay further along, but it’s less crowded. Bring a chair to sit on, plus your picnic. Second Beach is also the host venue for the Celebration of Light’s pre-fireworks family-friendly entertainment.
