I’m gonna miss the R44s, they always had a distinct smell to them. I’m gonna miss the jolt and the noise the motors made when starting to move. Interestingly, they also don’t have roll signs in the windows.
MTA got rid of side roll signs when cars were rehabbed in early ‘90s. Really no need as there’s only local or express on one line and conductors did an excellent job with announcements.
Idk what it is about set 100-104, but I love that low humming sound it makes during acceleration. I wish all the sets were like that. You can hear it clear at 12:55.
Who did the automatic announcements for the Staten Island Railway? I know Kathleen did the second part but who did the first part? Velina? It sounds like her.
I guess it would be pretty boring without mentioning them. Plus certain lines get a double transfer (meaning that somebody who paid to ride the subway to and used their tranfer for the SI Railway get a second transfer onto the bus. (and vice versa for subway stops and busses near the ferry in Manhattan)
id imagine they didnt use charlie for the last stop announcements because of the "subway" part and i suppose it that announcement didnt feel right for a line that isnt a subway.
Honestly, the selective door opening at Clifton reeks of the R44s. At worst, they'd only need to install a single gap filler for the fifth car once the R44s are gone, which they can do when(ever they get around to) upgrading the station for improved accessibility.
Instead of a gap filler, they need to adjust the platform further north so that it isn’t dangerously curved anymore. At Richmond Valley, the platforms are too short but due to extremely low ridership, there are no plans to extend them despite the fact they will eliminate SDO. I agree with you, SDO is confusing and inconvenient and should be eliminated if possible even if they cost a lot because it’s only a one-time upgrade. After all, only Clifton and Richmond Valley have problematic platforms on the SIR so it definitely won’t hurt to fix them once and for all even if there isn’t enough demand for it.
I think I heard a few familiar voices, but nothing like the R211A or R211T. Which both happened middiay on high use lines so plenty of people who were just waiting for their train.
The R211S In Service That Was Fast 🏃♂️
R211S look beautiful!
Moment of *silence* for the R44
*silence*
Ha bye
Yup 😢 soon it will be put to sleep forever in the ocean

B
Nice video. I'll hop down once a few sets are in service for a quick spin
Same here. They’ll be easier to catch by then.
The moment we all have been waiting for!
For a While it’s gonna be 50% R211S 50% R44 that’s the best era 🎉

Yes I love it too 😂😂😂 it sounds like a powerful machine
I thought I’d never see the day that R44 left Staten Island
Its gonna be there
Sad 😢
They’re retiring but I’m sure some will be in service until all the R211S’s are delivered.
@@Sidthedentist they will fade out
They’re still running, at least for a few more months.
Moment of silence for the Staten Island Railway's R44s
I’m loving the last stop announcements yasss the SIR Is finally new tech
Will they have the updated information too like the ones on the A or are they still gathering information?
Already that was quick way faster than the r211 a

I think its the woman who does the NYPD is on the platform announcement but i forgot her name.
Keechant Sewell, she sounds better than Velina imo
@@ZigZagggy Agreed.
Pray they don't get gearbox issues like their counterparts did.
Interesting how they announce bus transfers unlike the mainland
lmao mainland does announce the bus transfers
@@thrashakillaHe means the local buses
@@Patchy682bestbus they announce local buses too
@@thrashakillanah they only announce SBS and airport bus connections

RIP to the SIR R44, wrinkle body trains 😂
Perhaps They Might Preserve one of The R-44s for The Transit Museum
Won't be long till dj hammers and gogo super toe get footage of this train in service
Super toe was just in SI for the all-stations video and he skipped the express train I was on his premier and got annoyed that he skipped the express
@@alexthemtaandr211weatherfa2 i meant to ride the R211S
Now this is history, but they chose the voice who speaks very muffled.
When ST Louis manufactuerer will Hall of Fame for R44 & R44S upcoming replace R211
I wonder when the R211Ss enter express service.
Today.
Celebrate good times come on
7:40 Arthur Kill WHO?!
Who he kill?
Is she telling Arthur to kill the R44/46s? She sounds so commanding with that tone of voice 😂
Kill is Dutch for creek or river. Still lots of Dutch names on SI from when it was part of New Netherland.
HUH!? SURPRISING
Time fir me get to new york before the r44s go
Its sad that the train is not full of foamers. No one rides the SIR, not even the foamers.
It’s so far away to go it’s very inconvenient
