    That first operator was AMAZING! She even played the alternate doors closing announcement: I love that chime and "step back to allow the doors to close". Can't believe yall didn't know that off the top of your head lol.

    These 2000 trains will be missed 😢 This reminds of the retirement of the New York City Redbird trains in 2003.

    Great video! Saw myself a few times! So many great shots inside and outside of the train. Specifically loved the shot at 6:05. Hope WMATA continues to do more events like this for us transit enthusiasts.

    I'm going to miss those 2000 seats sooooo much. We used to ride like kings and queens 👑 The new trains seats are horribly uncomfortable.

    I remember i first visited DC with my parents and this was the first ever train i rode out there. It’s sad to see them leaving

    WMATA 2000 Series Subway Cars…….they’re the same age as me; 43 years old. What a milestone.

      November 16th, 1981 was the day I was born. Got to coexist with this fleet, and the R62s of my native NYC Transit System!❤

    I'm gonna miss these subway cars. The propulsion was the highlight of my last visit to DC

      At least we still have the 3000 and 6000 series trains with the same propulsion still in service

      @@Rohrbach00 True, but to see them go means that soon other older models will go and more modern gray or dark colored models will arrive. The brown color skem set it apart from what I see every day in NYC. Not enough variety here (besides the R211s)

      @@wales_kennedy2006 I’ll be honest, as a DC area resident of 20 years, I don’t see the 6000 series being retired anytime soon since they are much newer than the 3000 series and plus they don’t have any major issues although the 3000 series are obviously not that far away from being retired and replaced by the 8000 series along with the 2000 series

    I started riding in '88
    Quit Riding daily in '06
    What a ride.
    The carpet on those first series of trains was Indestructible, but very worn

      The carpet had a smell. Not always a good smell, but a unique one all the same.

    I was there that day! Glad to see footage has finally made its way online. Part of me wishes they kept everything original (carpet+orange seats) but it's probably for the better 😆

      How lucky are we these DC subway cars were delivered in the 80s and are retired meanwhile we still have the R46 love them

    I was born in Washington DC Hospital and have lived in the Metro DC area of Northern Virginia my whole life.
    . . .
    These will always be my Metros.
    From the Red line when we used to live in Arlington to the Orange Line now. I'll never forget these trains.
    I'll never forget that one orange Seat my younger sister and I always wanted to sit in and the announcement on the loudspeaker with that voice.
    I may not have been able to say goodbye but I can say thank you for everything, Farewell. A part of me will never leave that Brown panels, Silver Chassis, and Red, White, and Blue Striped ride.

    I wish I could take a ride on the 2000 Series but I can’t because! I won’t be on the metro until February of 2025! This will take a while! I grew up with the metro! With their rail cars! The 1000 Series was the one in the June 2009 crash!

    I would have gone, but word never got to me. I hope that for the 50th Anniversary of April '76 they have an event that rivals the BART legacy fleet retirement party from the past Spring.

    This was a really nice event! Great footage! Thanks for documenting this last ride! I think if WMATA does this in the future, they should run the cars around the whole system. It's not everywhere that every train is compatible with every line, so it would have been cool to see 2000 & 2001 (etc.) run to every station!

    Last time I rode the Washington DC metro was in the late '80s so I probably rode on the 2000 series.

    Sad I only got to ride 1 2K while in DC in 2022, hope MARTA does the same with their CQ 312, 310 and 311's.

    Excellent documentary on the last ride with the 2K series 😎
    I wish we had done the preservation for the original prototype of the M100 series trains in Helsinki metro (also from the 80's as these in DC).
    Unfortunately these units got scrapped just a few years ago as no one in the city's transit authority was caring about these units 😢

    Will the trains be rebuilt and sold to another system or a train musium? They seem to be excellent condition appearance wise. I remember the floors had carpeting when I first rode it in 1985.

    They are 100% identical to the 3000 series to the best of my knowledge and those trains will still be running until at least 2027.

    Love em or hate em, these cars helped me get around for half my life. Important events, interviews, school, work, and play. It's sad to see em go, but looking forward to any upgrades they make to our Metro system.

    I utterly dislike the car-body design of these trains, in particular the almost flat roof, and the upper side panels leaning inwards a bit too much above the waist level crease.
