Great video Dave! I remember years ago when you had no audio and I said I thought the videos would be better with it. Well now you're having fun with it and I couldn't be happier for your success. Definitely sharing this one to GHAC.
Cories are my favorite aquarium fish! I love watching the herd get up to their cory antics. The bigger the herd, the bigger the antics. You really get to to see the difference in personalities that way. Great closeups here, and although I'd seen this behavior, this is the first real explanation I've come across. Thanks Dave.
It always surprises me how much food cories can actually eat in one sitting considering how slow their metabolisms are. However much you're feeding them, feed them more because they can eat way more than you think, and they're also far more likely to breed when they're fed a ton.
1:45 I can attest. I'm one of those old-timers who's labouriously developed a severe anaphylactic abreaction to Bloodworms. I can't touch 'em. I cant breathe the air where they've been exposed to the ambient atmosphere I've had to give up my favourite, hearty, Wintertime bisque: Bloodworm Bisque with Buttered Toast Points.😞
Hi Nick, thanks for backing me up on the bloodworm allergies. . . So you're old? You seem like a young spring chicken to me. I probably have underwear older than you. 😁
@TheDave333 Yes. Yes, I'm old. By the human scale, I'm old, but I'm also a high mileage, older model, badass; with lotsa the very latest, highly advanced, replacement parts installed. I go for my final eye exam, late January, this coming. Then it's the pre-op check-up, before new eyes get installed. Once they're installed, I'll be seein' like you can only dream of seein'!! I'll be able to see you, all your blackest sins, and even your disgracefully old underwear; right from my home.👀 I'll be seein', and I'll be judgin'. YOU!!
Corydoras are absolutely precious. I miss the shoals I used to care for at my previous job, they were always a joy to watch during feeding time. Like others have stated in the comments, I had no idea that bloodworm allergies were a real thing. I had a regular that stated touching some of the frozen fish food at home would irritate her hands (as far as I know, she never used freeze dried). I always assumed it was some sort of acute sensitivty to the cold, since that is what I have. 😬
I love watching the cories feed too, but I'm mildly allergic to bloodworms, so I have to be very careful. Many people have no idea that this is sometimes an issue. . . So, hopefully this video creates more awareness of the potential problems. I wish that live blackworms were more readily available. 🤗
That exactly I wanted to say😊 I used frozen and live bloodwarm for feeding aquarium fish also a lot of my friends used bloodwarm for fishing and nobody had allergy
Not so much. I think it’s easier and quicker to collect data these days and make connections. People were probably getting sick from it but news didn’t travel as fast and it was probably mistaken for another type of allergy until enough data came out linking the people allergic reactions to blood worms.
I've been in the hobby since 1982 and I am very familiar with this issue. It is widely recognized. It's just something to be aware of. Most people are just fine. But some folks are indeed allergic. Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean that Dave's not correct.
@@sergeiiakimov3277Allergies are like that. Most people can eat peanuts without a problem. Some people can die from even the smallest piece of peanut.
I love to feed fish bloodworms because it looks like they are eating spaghetti. I feed lots of other foods and feed bloodworms lightly. My Cory Cats love bug bites bottom feeder food.
I have to look for BB bottom feeder food! I've been feeding Omega One catfish pellets but I think they changed the formula, it is far more buoyant than it used to be. Not cool for bottom feeders.
I feed mine frozen blood worms once a day, sinking carno pellets in the morning and algae wafers at night with the blood worms. So far so good. Thank you for your video and information.
This video reminds me of the story of heaven being a place where there is a pot of stew and everyone has a spoon with a handle too long to feed one’s self, so everyone feeds someone else and everyone gets enough. The Corrie’s collaborate on tenderizing the bloodworms. I am surprised they swallow the gutted worm though. Their intestines must be able to digest the carotin.
I've seen my cories do this and often wonder if they get any of the worms at all when i feed frozen bloodworm and or freeze dried blackworms. Most of the time i stick to pre soaked sinking pellets because of this.
@@TheDave333 I’m only 2 years into the hobby but have graduated to breeding angels and corys and with the corys I firmly believe successful breeding is due to the right plants to lay in and of course rich foods. Maybe they feel more relaxed to lay in since it’s a community tank? I can’t be sure. Or maybe I’m just a lucky lady and mine breed a lot. I know the best ratio is 2-3 males per female…and of course i harvest and hatch in separate tank. Keep us posted on your sterbii granfatherhood! Haha
Wow! Corys are so funny. Bloodworms must be tasty for them despite hard to digest. I never suspect that worm can pass through gill cover, later be swallow or spit away 😆. Even Brian lost figh with corry appetite 🤣🤣🤣 As usually perfect video. Excellent reminder that corys, catfish etc. are not trash collectors and must be fed properly.

Being a TH-cam creator is what I do for a living. . . So, if I have to exploit a few worms in order to put food on the table then so be it. The ends always justify the means. Besides, those worms were getting a little sassy anyway! They needed to be put in their place.

Their mating behavior is super cute too. Great video!
They do have a really interesting mating behavior, and I'm preparing them to spawn with lots of worms! 🤗

My Corys occasionally play in the bubbles from my airstone, they sort of let it push them up then they dive back down and go again.
My cories do that too, they love it when the water's moving. They like to play in the current.

@TheDave333 much more to learn. Just got to slowly talk my wife into more tanks .
Get her interested in the hobby, it might help. My wife tolerates my 22 tanks, but I still can't get her to help with water changes!
I enjoy this so much! Amazing content, best wishes to you and your future projects! 🌻
Thank you! I'm always working on new projects! 🤗
Haha your commentary is the best!
Thanks 😆
Where did you get them from, Dave?
I ordered them through a local pet store near my house.
@TheDave333 I see. . .
❤ corys easily one of my favourite type of fish especially pygmies, I call mine the squadron because they move around my tank in formation
That's awesome I love to see them moving around as a group. 🤗
Yay I love cory cats! I keep them with ramshorns and bladder snails, they share wafers and soaked flakes. I love them so much
They are the best! So cheery without ever saying a word!
I love them too! ❤❤❤
That was fascinating!
Thanks!
That is so interesting-i had never heard about bloodworm allergy
It's real, and, the longer it takes to manifest, the worse and more dangerous it will be, when once it presents.

Cories are often underfed because they eat very slowly. They can be fed at night which helps.

I love it when they wink! 🤗
Pleas make a video on the splash tetra ( copella arnoldi ) they have a cool breeding behavior where they jump out of the water to lay eggs on leavs

I get a cube and push that cube in sand and all of them go nuts for that cube.
