Hardly anyone from south knew Vijay Devarakonda. And then came Arjun Reddy and he became a star overnight! His personality, dialogue delivery, attittude everything rightly fits in. Kabir singh got one of the best music albums in bollywood and shahid is a star. But I would recommend Arjun Reddy over Kabir singh, for Vijay Devarakonda!
Vijay Deverakonda nailed that character in Arjun reddy. Though bollywood remake with Shahid was good but Vijay's performance in original was >>>>

If you want the Rawness & boldness in characters you should watch the original “Arjun reddy” and coming to the “Kabir singh” it got some what diluted but still tried to carry out the same flavors and vibes…
Yes It is right to compare similar films. But I say, there are elements for comparision. Like, you can compare a movie which points farmer issues to other movies which points the same.
Coming to main aspect of the question. I'm a Telugu Guy. I have watched Arjun Reddy 5 Times in the movie Theatre. The movie was freaking awesome. I loved every actor in their respective role.
I still love the plot and have watched Kabir Singh. Comparing the plot, it was shot exactly to Arjun Reddy. So, I don't want to touch on the plot as it is already proven to be a great one.
As a minute FilmMaker, I consider performances are all that varied here. Especially Vijay in Telugu vs Shahid. Vijay is a guy with good personality over Shahid. So, obviously he got an edge over Shahid Kapoor.
Vijay's Talent was proven by this film for very first time. Otherside, we all know shahid as a good but underrrated actor and this time he got a chance to hype it out. Some scenes of aggresion were edged more by Vijay as Arjun. But, Shahid took edge in Depressed shades. Vijay had slightly staggered in performance at climax park scene where shahid haven't.
Preeti - Kiara vs shalini. Both of them nailed it with their reserved girl performance. But, I vote Shalini as she was the debutant to do it but not kiara. The innocence also portrayed well by shalini.
The character of shiva is a stellar performance in both versions.
The place where college exist in Arjun Reddy makes you feel it close to the plot but in Kabir Singh as it is Delhi Based.
Cannot comment on Music. It is music with more rage that I have ever heard.
I personally know Sandeep Reddy Vanga and his added experiences to the film plot are brilliant yet unchanged. Some detailing from AR had been missing here in KS.

I tried watching Arjun Reddy after watching Kabir Singh but I couldn't complete, Idk for some reason it felt off. Kabir Singh is way better in terms of production, acting and even songs in the movie which brings that emotion out.

Like you said the movie relationship and the main character is toxic. The movue get negative criticism thats why the director said that. I don't think arjun reddy is violent movie its a movie about a broken person because of his past love affair. Personally i enjoyed the movie except the climax.

And i watched ARJUN REDDY 2 times in Movie Theatre and 2 times in OTT
And then when KABIR SINGH OTT print came out i fast forwarded the movie but Shahid Did good job as well
