Even I got disappointed in the "moments later" part, have a look here for detailed explanation, make sure to follow preceding parts. You're welcome. what-when-how.com/zbrush-character-creation-advanced-digital-sculpting/painting-a-creature-skin-texture-painting-zbrush-character-creation-part-1/
I truly appreciate the way you present tutorials, easy to follow, clear and concise and that’s what sets you apart from the “Watch me do this on Zbrush ” to “let me show you how to do this on Zbrush” I will pay for any online courses if you have any available, sir.
I'm a bit confused when you say layers...do you mean painting just painting over previous paint application or are you creating seperate layers in Zbrush for each paint overlay (like in Photoshop)
Hi Naveen. What I do for that one hour... is what I do starting at 05':50"... “sample and paint in layers red, blue and yellow...” That's what I do in that one hour, the same thing over and over. If you look at the article I mention in the video by James Gurney (gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/2008/05/color-zones-of-face.html) you will learn where to add the reds, blues and yellows on the skin - based on where fatty tissues and bones are, that's it! I hope this helps.
When I use TrimCurve brush, or when I perform other actions, such as dynamesh, my geometry is filling in all holes or valleys. Can you help me stop this from happening. Today, I wanted to trim off the bottom of a dress, and it filled in the whole bottom half of the dress with unwanted geometry.
Hola me podrías explicar como llegar a ese resultado final? Seguir todos tus pasos pero ya no supe que hacer cuando tu terminaste. Soy muy nuevo con zbrush espero tu respuesta gracias
Thanks for the vid. I have noticed that after I paint onto the mesh (as you do in this video), my undo keyboard shortcut no longer works for the entire tool. If I switch tools the undo works fine. Until I paint... What am I missing?
Faizal Ali. We created a custom UI. The button is found under the Color Menu. Check out our video on customizing ZBrush and you can add the button anywhere you want. Hope this helps!
Another beginning student of Zbrush here. Thank you for the tutorial. Quick question that I could not find an answer to when searching on the web - I may have pressed a button unknowingly, but the texture of my applied materials does not "stick" with my model anymore. A bit hard to explain, but if you take a sphere, sculpt a couple of squiggles on it, fill it with ie, leather_1 material, then rotate the sphere, you can see the squiggles rotate with the sphere no problem, but the texture of the leather_1 material does not rotate. None of the material textures move with the applied tools anymore. Another good example is the gold_leaf material. It has a distinctive triangular dark spot in the mid/right hand area. If you rotate the sphere with the gold_leaf applied, that dark spot will stay in the same spot no matter how i manipulate the tool. Any idea of how to rectify this problem? I tried restarting Zbrush and initializing, but so far no luck.
Hi Eric. Sorry for the late reply, I just finished going over all my students' Midterms! When you select a material, and by your descriptions, it sounds that you are using a Matcap material - not standard materials, do you then go to the top of the UI and select M (for Material) and under color, go to Fill Object? Selecting the material is one thing, then you have to fill the Subtool (say eyes, tongue, head, etc,) and then fill the Subtool with the material. If you have done this correctly, let's figure out what it could be. Could you send me the file?
No worries. Thanks for getting back to me. I'm currently working on a breakthrough, for me anyway, skinning my mesh. Will get back to the Zbrush issue in a bit. I have no file, it just happens with any tool I load that I apply a material to. Both Matcap and standard. I have "fill object" under color, but not under material. I'm gonna peruse some Zbrush material tuts on TH-cam and see what I'm missing. I'll let you know what I find.
Hello, your video is very interesting. But I would like to know if in this process of coloring or combining the colors used some brush or another method so that the color is completely homogeneous. Thanks
Hi Juan. I use the regular Default Brush, then for my Stroke I use Color Sparay so that the opacity and Hue-Intensity of my colors are "random," like the color of Skin. The trick for this blending, what you correctly describe as "homogeneous," is to paint in "thin layers," what I mean by thin layers is light intensity in the color and creating passes (layers apon layer) of color atop each of the three Color Zones (check this AMAZING post on Color Zones by James Gurney:gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/2008/05/color-zones-of-face.html.) This is a technique from people that paint masks and applications for prosthetic for Feature Films! Tell me if this helps. I si quieres que escriba en Español, dimelo: creci en Barcelona!
Hi everyone. Please watch the tutorial at around 05':50"“sample and paint in layers red, blue and yellow...” That's what I do in that one hour, the same thing over and over. If you look at the article I mention in the video by Jame Gurney on the Color Zones of the Face (gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/2008/05/color-zones-of-face.html) you will see where the reds, blues and yellows are in the skin - based on where fatty tissues and bones are. I'm sad to say that there's no filters, no magic, tricks or secrets I use to get to the painted skin after the card that say, "MOMENTS LATER" Paint from OBSERVATION (old paintings as in James Gurney's article) and take your time, layer upon layer. If it turns too red, add yellow and blue - depending if there’s fatty tissues or bone underneath the skin, then more yellow that blue. I hope this helps!
Hi there I am able to follow you in the video, but I got problems at the subdivision part. I can't change the sdv level- the buttons are just grey! Do you have a solution?
Exactly, like what TheXpertGuy says: convert the primitive into an editable mesh by clicking on "Make Polymesh3D" in the Tools menu (top area) Hope this helps!
ZBrush's Polypainting is a per-vertex texturing process, but to get the texture out of ZBrush you have to export your textures from Polypaint to UV-based texture map, then export it to 3ds Max...
Great Tutorial!!! Excelent!!! I will like to know if the details in the skin comes from the scan or you have done them in zbrush? Thanks and congratulations again!!
for all the comments about "moments later" -> this is a tutorial for learning to paint in zbrush, the tecnical part. not about the artistical part of painting realistic skin. its a shame, but well, read the fcking tittle.
show what you did in "Moments Later" we all are waiting for that moment and you miss it...and the tutorial basicly is go an other page to see how to do that???realy???? wtf...waste of time
You say what you did but refused to provide a time lapse of that missing hour knowing people with much less knowledge arnt gonna sit down and read an article and just be like o hey yea i can do this. This is my first impression of your channel and i dont think ill be returning much like the other 126,664 viewers
Hi James. The video is how to apply the Material and Colors primarily. How to paint realistic textures is another topic which we will cover soon in our 3D Texturing series...
Your tutorial was excellent until you said ''Moments later'

Moments later hahahahahahaha. It reminds me of some drawing tutorial, get the skeleton, and add some detail! But nicely explained though.
Figured out so freaking much about texture painting in one video with z brush, you’re fantastic dude. Thanks for the resource!
Please! Tell me what happened in "moments later" How did you come from oversaturated to a normal skin colors?
@@10dev785 He actually explains it right after the "moments later" screen...
This is genious! Makes a world of difference VS filling with skinlike color and trying to shade on top.
Thank you so much for uploading these lessons for free! I'm so thankful!
great recommendation for the James Gurey method, helped out a ton!
wtf happend in moments later???!!?!?!??
Actually, it's pretty easy, he already explained the techniques. It's up to you to mix the colors rightly and get a skin texture you like.

Video started out great, ended up like the "how to draw an owl" meme.
I'm a bit confused when you say layers...do you mean painting just painting over previous paint application or are you creating seperate layers in Zbrush for each paint overlay (like in Photoshop)
How do you make high point to be playable for video game and keep thw detail level
is it possible to paint like this on just mouse and keyboard without a tablet?
Great tutorial! Could you pls share video of an hour MOMENT LATER. That was the main thing to learn.
