I'm sure that Gilbert, Satriani, and Vai would salute him as one the greatest in today's modern vanguard. I've also heard Tosin pay tribute to Gilbert as a great inspiration when he was a young player learning his craft. He's definitely got GOAT chops, and his innovation is without question. (The fact that he paired himself with phenomenal bandmates shows he cares more about music than top dog status. Same for Javier and Matt.)
Would you expect any less from tosins band lmao. You should see the accuracy of his snare hits. The mark left over from hitting the drum so many times. It's literally the size of a dime with no misses. Dead center. No drummer but him does that lol. And there are a few drummers as good but not as accurate
Can't believe I get to see them live at Heavy Montreal 2016, that was one of the 2 main reasons I decided to go again this year. The second being of course... Despised Icon!
@@SKi4o5 they are technically the same but in different ways. Tosin is much better at fast playing and rhythmic playing, like thumping. Javier is much better at fingerstyle and dynamics
I was at this show. Obviously the video can't do justice for how it sounded in real life but holy shit, this was the tightest they've ever sounded. I saw them a couple times after and due to no fault of their own (generally worse venues/acoustics) none of those held a candle to this one. I have seen them seven times in total from 2011-2017 but this night will always stick out to me. One of my highschool buddies was off his rocker on either mdma or some other meth like euphorant and was completely hyped throughout the entire set, really balancing out the whole snobby prog rock vibe coming from the majority of the audience. I'm personally not even much of a metal buff by any stretch of the imagination but I really wish i could re live this particular show. Hell, I wish I could just go back to being 19 again. Weird how so much can change in less than 5 years
Every so often I come back to watch this in its entirety. I think this may possibly be the best set aal has ever played. The sound and the whole energy is just 100% dialed. Love this band with a passion
All I can think is I don't know how they can possibly remember every sequence of notes/riffs for these songs.. like they must never forget where their car keys are...
The way that this specific video and venue is mic’d makes it sound like they have a bass which sounds DOPE!!!! It makes their 8 strings sound like legitimate basses!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Awesome drummer and true talent. Hear Matt's story in this video. We had the pleasure of streaming Animals As Leaders last November during Metal Month. Check the full show here: th-cam.com/video/tZv1sf1iOU8/w-d-xo.html
+Jed Honrado Im pretty sure they tune standard with the 8th string dropped actually, I was quite surprised when I found that out. I thought tuned lower than that.
I watched a video displaying tosin's rig run down, and if I recall correctly, he said that he usually goes standard tuning with the 7th being B, and the 8th dropped to E as a bass effect since that would be an octave down from the 6th string. I'm not too sure how many octaves lower a bass guitar's E string is in comparison to the low E on a 6-string guitar. Google to the rescue?
these guys are fun as hell. a perfect mixture of "djent" as some call it, and progressive metal. i know they're basically the same thing, but technically they are very specific subgenres.
+Daisy's Destruction The term "djent" actually began as a guitar tone; however, I suppose for the most part that it has become a sort of subgenre over the years (Somehow.) I believe the term was coined by the band Meshuggah, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
Thanks Toontrack for providing me with this amazing concert since to date, this is the only opportunity I'll have to watch then live as they wont do a live show in Portugal
Pure awesomeness, I hope and think they deserve more recognition for their amazing talent. I saw them at the crazy donkey on long island when it was still there and the show was flawless,,also hope to see them again in new jersey this august. Tosin and matt are some of the best on the f'in planet!
This ensemble is the very meaning of true art! Bravo!! 💯 All of the players contributing to the whole with stellar skills.👏 Each one appreciating the mastery of the others. ☝️This band epitomizes greatness.
What's wrong with the crowd at this show? Three of the most talented musicians in their sphere yet only a few people in the audience bobbing their head at the most. I don't see one person person banging their head in the front row, anyone getting really into it. You don't need a singer screaming his head off to bang your head!
Robbie Tribulan LOL YES. We are so used to nodding or banging our heads every two beats, it just feels right, but when have these assholes(only joking) playing in 5/4 and 7/8 the beat we were rhythmically bobbing our head to switches from onbeat to offbeat every measure hahaha
First time I've had the chance to check these guys out. Only advice I'd give is to try different tempos. The drums in each track all seem to be within the same BPM
What a great show, they are from another planet I'm sure. haha . ***BTW: Did anyone notice that girl in front row YAWNING at **55:05** , at the most epic moment ever XD. !***
What's the last live show you went to? Here's the full Animals As Leaders performance from our live stream last Metal Month. Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/tZv1sf1iOU8/w-d-xo.html
I was at this show and the audio was MUCH better at it than on this video. More than a year later and I'm still upset that they didn't play the explosion part in 'The price of everything and the value of nothing'. The drum solo was cool don't get me wrong, but I feel like they could have squeezed the explosion in after it
in most videos of AAL you always find that the sound level of the guitar of javier is lower than tosin's and even sometimes almost inexistant but here is the contrary witch i find it sad also given the sound quality overall witch is good and especially for the cambo of the price/behaving badly that i like so much but you can't find a near good quality than the one in this video

love how garstka gives like 150% on every song.
ossibossi100 he’s obviously having too much fun !!!
Garstka is a beast!
He overplays
No such thing bud
@@JediCrackSmoke "he overplays" bro, its animals as leaders. Go listen to weezer
These guys are monsters. Music skill apart, just the level of memory required to play all this complex stuff note by note, is mind-blowing on its own.
Tosin ABASI is certainly the world's GREATEST guitar player alive today!
not at all :)
Roger Lee Meyzindi Matt Garstka one of the greatest drummers
He's better than Jimmy page in my oppinion
Vai, satriani and gilbert are still alive. He's the most innovative of the XXI century tho
Came here for the drummer, stayed for the guitars. Incredible musicianship
damn Matt gartska is ridiculous
I hope for a live Dvd from these guys in the future, I'll definitely pick it up.
I came here for the guitar and left with a new favorite drummer.
Garstka is a god
I love how Tosin just looks at Matt when he does the solo in "Weightless" thinking "How the hell did he do that!?"
Matt's beating those drums like his father whooped him when he was a kid. He was enjoying it
Holy balls, that drummer is amazing!!
"THAT" drummer is mr Matt fucking Garstka! Lol
7 years later best drummer alive
Would you expect any less from tosins band lmao.
You should see the accuracy of his snare hits. The mark left over from hitting the drum so many times. It's literally the size of a dime with no misses. Dead center. No drummer but him does that lol.
And there are a few drummers as good but not as accurate
No matter how many times i've listened this to band , every single time I get so impressed. Absolutely amazing, they're wizards
truly the best prog gig in years. Matt is just from another planet...
this is a really long drum solo
Garstka's life is a really long drum solo.
Drums solos are never enough dude! Never!!
Can't believe I get to see them live at Heavy Montreal 2016, that was one of the 2 main reasons I decided to go again this year. The second being of course... Despised Icon!
35:37 The sound guy finally gets out of the shitter
How come Javier gets virtually no camera time, even when he's taking leads?
+palsyddad because people dont realize he's every bit as good as tosin
@@SKi4o5 they are technically the same but in different ways.
Tosin is much better at fast playing and rhythmic playing, like thumping.
Javier is much better at fingerstyle and dynamics
Javier is AWESOME. I love every AAL song he has written so much.
RIGHT?!? Javier is one of my biggest inspirations for picking up guitar right now and he hardly ever gets any recognition…
Cuz he's the best thing that ever happened to Tosin and nobody knows that.
Garstka is seriously next level. It's insane how effortless he makes it look.
I was at this show. Obviously the video can't do justice for how it sounded in real life but holy shit, this was the tightest they've ever sounded. The way that this specific video and venue is mic’d makes it sound like they have a bass which sounds DOPE!!!! It makes their 8 strings sound like legitimate basses!🔥🔥🔥🔥
This time we can hear the drums as they are.
Love this performance.
Very pure.

I wanna thank Toontrack for this awesome stream and of course for all the amazing products that they make, you guys are awesome!
So this is all in straight 4/4 time and standard tuning, right?
+Jed Honrado more like π/4
+Jed Honrado Im pretty sure they tune standard with the 8th string dropped actually, I was quite surprised when I found that out. I thought tuned lower than that.
I watched a video displaying tosin's rig run down, and if I recall correctly, he said that he usually goes standard tuning with the 7th being B, and the 8th dropped to E as a bass effect since that would be an octave down from the 6th string. I'm not too sure how many octaves lower a bass guitar's E string is in comparison to the low E on a 6-string guitar. Google to the rescue?
indeed, a bass is one octave lower
+PLAZ1990s yep, the E they play on their 8th string is the same is the same note as the E on a bass guitar
Incredible musicians and genuinely humble human beings
these guys are fun as hell. a perfect mixture of "djent" as some call it, and progressive metal. i know they're basically the same thing, but technically they are very specific subgenres.

Prog is completely different to djent. Prog is life
Loved these guys for a long time....Just unreal what they can do with timings
This is making me miss live shows :/
how do they play woven web soo naturally??? it's an alien's song dude... it's amazing
this is their best performance Ive seen. god like in its perfection. just wow.
13:56 ¡¡¡¡¡¡THAT DRUM ROLL¡¡¡¡¡¡ SO SWEEEEET¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
I love that you can literally hear all his influences pretty much in every song.
I've watched this a few hundred times lol😊
that ESP of javier sound like a terminator t1000 so powerfull it macht the tam100 perfectly they just keep geting better cheers animals!!!!
Fabio Vera i thinj esp is garbage brand, but that's another story
say no more, this band is awesome.
better than rings of saturn
Easily
weird comparison but ok
They play with a click that has a synth bass and pad. Also heir eight string guitars help complement the lower range.
HENDRIX REINCARNATED!!!!!!
Tosin Abasi plays nothing like Hendrix did. You're basing it all on skin colour. Silly.
Thanks Toontrack for providing me with this amazing concert since to date, this is the only opportunity I'll have to watch then live as they wont do a live show in Portugal
47:19 that face
Tosin always looks so happy when playing live
this one of the few concerts I've seen from AAL where the crowd moshes
Pure awesomeness, I hope and think they deserve more recognition for their amazing talent. I saw them at the crazy donkey on long island when it was still there and the show was flawless,,also hope to see them again in new jersey this august. Tosin and matt are some of the best on the f'in planet!

36:12 jesus christ!!
thomaserak7 my favorite part though out the whole vid
he plays with a complex "backtrack". So hard.
Matt is a beast
I sped up this concert 1.5x and wasn't disappointed. They almost sounded like they could have played it that way lol thanks TH-cam :D
post djent
Mannnn, soooooo soooooo bad!!! They are amazing!!!
thanks for turning up the volume @ 35:23
Saw these guys and Chon a couple months ago and I'm going to see them again this month great band great show :D
these guys are going to sell out madison square garden one day.
one can only hope, but they won't.
I don't think any prog band would. Maybe Dream Theater?
51:08 😭 It looks like that security guard at the front row is giving that girl an awkward kiss
Going to see them this summer at Houston TX, looking foward to it!
I like these guys way better live
Me too. They play with more emotions live, and that's not something very common in a lot of other bands. :)
Fuck, I wish I could've been there!
So pissed i found these guys too late to see them live.
Enjoyed the heavy grooves and solos!
Increible, ojala algun dia vengan a Venezuela, una gra fanaticada los espera!!!!
I’m just jealous of the camera operator who got to film Matt Garstka
Simply, SICK!! Love it.

I don't see one person person banging their head in the front row, anyone getting really into it. You don't need a singer screaming his head off to bang your head!
Benteen Brandow we all have our own way to enjoy music :)
Benteen Brandow They're being attentive to the music instead of the presentation
Benteen Brandow theyre probably having trouble finding the beat
Robbie Tribulan LOL YES. We are so used to nodding or banging our heads every two beats, it just feels right, but when have these assholes(only joking) playing in 5/4 and 7/8 the beat we were rhythmically bobbing our head to switches from onbeat to offbeat every measure hahaha
Benteen Brandow It's a little more hard to headbang to 7/8 time
Great Show and great band. Just a shame that Tosin's guitar is mixed way too quiet!
They seriously need to play "do not go gently" more
The rhythms in Woven Web aren't even human
nice live mix for 2014 matt always goes hard on drums tho and his kit
Holy Crap these Guys are realy good.
its like music from the future!!!
Matt is such a beast !
Yeah. I know a lot of the focus gets put on Tosin but I hope listeners can appreciate just how fucking good Matt is. Really young too.
First time I've had the chance to check these guys out. Only advice I'd give is to try different tempos. The drums in each track all seem to be within the same BPM
Amazing setlist, would kill to have been there.
top form & great sound ( even through my phone speaker...think ill go play this through the sub in my truck now ).
When they started playing "Point To Point," I had a heart attack!
Awesome set!
What a great show, they are from another planet I'm sure. haha . ***BTW: Did anyone notice that girl in front row YAWNING at **55:05** , at the most epic moment ever XD. !***
Outstanding project. Nightmare sounds. I really got excited when I listen Physical education, min 40:30!! mind blowing!!!!
WOWWWWWWWW amazing....Drummer ,,, topclass
Pretty sure they do a bit of Behaving Badly between Espera and Price of Everything.
100 %!!!!!!!!
I like how they throw it in there but am also sad by not hearing it live in full
7:00 - 9:10 OMG! I love this \\,,//
Garstkas answers Everything
cant wait for my new 8 string
Awesome !!!!!
Awesome he uses Planet Waves locking straps too!!!

Bass sounds HUGE. Not complaining.
la qualité du son est bien meilleure que celle de l'image et tant mieux, je préfère ça plutôt que l'inverse !
Matt on The Price of Everything is divinity
Not into metalbut this transcends it GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
36:14 to the rest of the song omfg Garstka is just top notch prob best in the game. Top 3 easy
I was at this show and the audio was MUCH better at it than on this video. More than a year later and I'm still upset that they didn't play the explosion part in 'The price of everything and the value of nothing'. Fuck maaaaate, Espera has such a niiiiice feel/vibe to it.
Yyyyyeeeessssss!!!!!!

in most videos of AAL you always find that the sound level of the guitar of javier is lower than tosin's and even sometimes almost inexistant but here is the contrary witch i find it sad also given the sound quality overall witch is good and especially for the cambo of the price/behaving badly that i like so much but you can't find a near good quality than the one in this video
The best ever
Tosin's tone didn't cut through the mix AT ALL when we saw them in Cleveland last night.
The audio quality on this video is quite good although the volume level seems to lower and raise now and then (but not too often, unless it's just me)
Can the camera and people give some more attention to Javier. He is in my opinion still equally or better than Tosin Abasi.
AMazing ! Wish i was there
Is the bass programmed or what's going on there? I know i'm hearing bass for sure , great sounding bass .
Actually nolly recorded bass for AAL in joy of motion album, and they using the same track for live
The bass is mostly from the 8 string guitar.
during The Woven Web, the crowd must be either dead or in complete shock. that fucking LINE oh god
