The Police became globally popular in the late 70's & early 80's. They were part of the British new wave scene & they played a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae & jazz. They have had a lot of hits such as "Message In A Bottle", "Roxanne", "Can't Stand Losing You", "Walking On The Moon", "Don't Stand So Close to Me", "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" etc. Sting went on to have a big solo career.

While the drummer Stewart Copeland went on to Hollywood writing themes for films and television, one being Babylon 5... Andy Summers played in numerous bands with the lead guitar... After the Synchronicity album and world tour they separated having left the pop rock world on top. Sting even attempted acting roles, one being in the film Dune...

Diddy didn’t just sample it, it was straight up theft 😂

I remember a woman friend of mine saying back in the day that the "obsessed" lyrics of this song were kind of sexy. ok, she was beautiful. and after all it was STING singing. I got it totally. And seriously, MMB. Probably the best example of The Police. (and yeah, that guitar riff belongs to Andy Summers, and Sting has successfully sued major rappers for millions!) Get hip, my friend. Just forget about it, ok?
And another thing, the drummer (Stewart Copeland) was an amazing musician, yet he once said this song was his BEST drum track ever. Mainly because a rock solid and steady back-beat is what every drummer needs to do.

Stewart Copeland is the only American in the band.
British musician Andy Summers graduated 🎓 from San Fernando Valley State University (later renamed Cal State-Northridge) 50+ years ago. He is upset 😡 that he does not get much royalties especially from Puff Daddy.
I met him in my home area, the San Francisco Bay Area, back in the 2000s.
YT has videos of Sting explaining that Puff Daddy must pay $X each time I'll Be Missing You appears. Sting laughs 🤣 to the bank! 🏦
This song. 40 years 🎂 since this was released. This beat Michael Jackson (Beat It and Billie Jean) for Song of the Year 1983 in Billboard, The Grammys and AMA.
The Police recorded in Montserrat. This was 1 of the songs where Sting and Stewart Copeland were fighting over. The Police was going to break up before finishing recording this song and the remainder of the album.
Summers walked 🚶‍♂️ to the late Sir George Martin, RIP, for advice. It worked! 😃
Meanwhile, nearby, Spandau Ballet was on the rise. The band recorded the album True including the sing with the same name.
Sting and Spandau Ballet appeared in the video Do They Know It's Christmas 🎄.
Note for you: get some singing lessons: your singing voice has some promise! 😃
Suggested videos 📹: 1 The Police performs Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic 2 Sting and Dire Straits perform Money for Nothing. 3 Spandau Ballet performs True.

I didn’t know that about the Diddy drama. Damn! He had to know better. It’s hard to believe he’d do something that stupid. I always thought he was a smart guy. I mean he performed the dang song Live on the Grammys broadcast, maybe it was the AMAs… . Also, am I wrong or a Diddy say the proceeds for the song were going to biggie’s family? I guess there’s still proceeds that aren’t part of the royalties…so they still get some… but does this mean that Sting is actually getting that money ultimately from Biggie’s family? Not that they are in desperate need for it… I know biggie’s family still gets Biggie’s proceeds from his own music, which is a fortune I’m sure. Still can’t believe Diddy thought he’d get away with that. I have always heard that he’s tight with money.

The Police were 3 guys - Sting (real name Gordon Sumber) on vocals & bass, Stewart Copeland (drums) and Andy Summers (guitar), but they were short-lived from around 1978 until 1985 before they disappeared in 1986... Sting launched a solo tour, while the other 2 worked behind the scenes in music... They did reunite for 1 last tour in 2007/ '08.
'Every breath you take' was a dark song from 1983 about obsession and control in the Cold War era... Sting said he was hot happy around that time because The Police were not getting along and his personal life was a mess. The 3 members of The Police were friends, but they could not be in the same band because they fought constantly - even in public view. It likely came about because Stewart Copeland founded The Police, but it was Sting who made them a sensation... so, there was rivalry between the 2.
Originally, Stewart Copeland saw the British punk rock scene and decided to form The Police as a punk rock band in 1977 ... Sting joined on bass/ vocals and then, Andy Summers later joined on guitar, and the band blossomed musically as a result, becoming much more than a punk band. They debuted in 1978 w/ the album 'Outlandos D'amour' and had this unique sound w/ rock, reggae and 60's pop influences w/ Sting writing all the songs.
The Police only released 5 studio albums, but became one of the biggest bands in the world by the early 80's... The last album 'Synchronicity' was a pop record in 1983 and The Police would cease touring by 1986. A compilation record of their hits ("Every breath you take: The singles") was released in 1986 and sold 5x platinum in the US.
Sting released his debut solo album 'The dream of the Blue Turtles' in 1985 and it sold 3x platinum in the US... so, he focused his creative efforts on his solo albums from that point on... There was always demand for The Police to reunite, but they always refused. Finally, they agreed to tour one last time for the fans in '07 ... They claimed that they made more bank$$$ than they had at the peak of their career.
So many classics by The Police - 'Wrapped around your finger' ... 'Every little thing she does is magic' ... "Don't stand so close to me" ... "I can't stand losing you" ... 'Roxanne' ... 'Message in a bottle' 🔥🔥

I saw them in concert in 1982. They were awesome. I didn’t know the whole Diddy plagiarism thing. I’m watching it right now and it’s straight up theft. It’s played at a lot of funerals apparently. Now I’m watching a video of Diddy, Faith Evans and Sting performing it together at the VMAs in 1997, so no hard feelings?

Of course no hard feelings! Sting had to give permission, and Diddy made him a fortune!

@@StuartBiliack As Shon said, Sting sued Diddy and was awarded 100% of the proceeds from the song. That could definitely cause hard feelings on both sides.

Yes, they didn't effort to much... I mean, putting in words in a softly way. Hundreds of hiphop/rappers stole and stole once and once again taking all the credit. This happens because younger generations don't have a background of musical knowledge. The worst part is that they don't even care. Then you have mud gods shining like gold.

Everyone samples BUT Diddy is real bad for just straight up taking classic hits and sampling them with little to no change. He knows if you make a beat off an already catchy tune, that your tune will be catchy af too. Check out “all around the world” by mase, that’s David Bowie

Diddy didn't sample it he reworked/reinterpreted it as a Biggie tribute- I'll be Watching You for I'll be Missing you. - It's a great song and it was introduced to a whole new generation so that's the good thing.

I love that for Diddy. He's awful, to put it mildly. On many levels. Glad his estate will be paying Sting's estate even after he's probably gone. No way did Diddy make the song out of altruism, you're giving him way too much credit as a human. Nope, he was trying to get away with something.

Have another band for you to react to who were together their entire career(another trio)-ZZTOP-until the death of their bassist Dusty Hill in 2021; started in the 70’s, blues/rock, also known as the Little Old Band from Texas; when their lead singer/lead guitarist was playing in his high school group in the sixties, Jimi Hendrix picked them to tour with him & said Billy was the best guitarist he’d ever heard; love when you discover new(old groups from my youth) bands & you have warmed this older white ladies heart with your joy; have a great rest of the week, peace. 🥰🥰❤️❤️☮️☮️

We know the original song, then it got adapted, and everyone thought it was original .
    That’s when you lose respect
