Instructions that came with the cover workshop awful. Your explanation was clear concise and very helpful
Installed the exact bed cover on my taco over a year ago and still holding up fine. Install was a breeze.
Thanks! your video helped me install the Rough Country on my 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road Longbed
One thing I noticed about these covers is the lack of security, by inserting a wire coat hanger under the back you're able to pull the wire and open the cover. Another thing is you loose the slides for securing storage, were other covers add blocks and allow you to reinstall the rail under the bed cover rail.
Nice job on the video! Nice clear view of how to install it!
Good install video. I have the OEM Tacoma one that came with my truck. Not sure if it has drains like the this one. It certainly is not 100% water proof. What I don’t think about the rough country one is that you loose the rail system for your tie down points. It also does not go all the way back toward the cab.
How is the factory one holding up? I am going to get one from a guy who just bought a new trd but doesn’t want the factory soft one. I want it for the trips I take here and there to fly fish. I figure it won’t be waterproof, but if it can at least keep the bulk of water dust birdshit and prying eyes off of my stuff plus keep it from blowing out then it’s a win in my book
@@DB-qm4jx holding up nicely. I don’t keep much in the bed if my truck. When I do put anything in it , it doesn’t move so that is definitely a good thing
@@ryanmurphy694 right on I appreciate you let me know. I’ll be picking that one up here in a couple hours. I’m glad to hear that. I won’t keep much under mine either except for when I go camping and I pull into a gas station it will keep the quick I in hand away from my stuff. I also like that guy can take it off easily and seemingly store it much easier than the hard cover as I don’t want a cover on full time. Anyhow, thanks a bunch.
Excellent video. Question: why not drain out to the existing holes in the bed of the truck? Like you I’m not wanting to drill holes in the body of the truck.
I wanted to make the drain lines as minimalistic as possible to avoid hitting them at any point and the predrilled holes are all the way down to the floor of the bed.
Appreciate the water proofing at where the cab meets the bed. My Kikito cover didn't come with those gap pads - I'll have to get some.
Mine didn’t come with the 3m adhesive pads/gaskets. Might you know which product it is so I can buy some?
Thaks for sharing your great videos. Once you closed the tailgate, will this lock the tonneau?
Yep just need to lock the tailgate too
Very nicely done video and explanation. I'm not finding this exact product anywhere. Can you help?

Great install videos. Thank you
Great install video! Very helpful! My TRD PRO looks even better now! 2thumbs up! 👍 👍
getting a 23 pro next week should i get this cover?
Thank-you for the install video.
When you drilled into the bed….you lost me. I am looking around for another cover. Thanks for posting they video…..nice job.
Same, What other options have you found?
You don’t have to drill hole and hook that hose up. I didn’t even hook either hose up and no water has penetrated my bed and I go thru automatic washes 3 times a week.
How's the bed cover holding up?
It was holding up great! Switched it out for a Diamondback Cover though for a new rooftop tent project and more security.
@@GearKnowHow I think that is the way I am going to go. Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for the tutorial
I hate reading directions 😂
Can you put your mounts for rotoplax , shovel axe,l with that cover ??
Hi! How are you doing? I have the question. How many fit do you for the Rough Country cover. I have the Toyota Tacoma TRD pro 5fit, but I don’t find any 5fit. Please let’s me know where they have it for 5fit. Thank you so much!
5ft should fit but it might not be available on Amazon so you can find it on the Rough Country website
can you put in a cargo divider with this setup? im getting a 2021 off road and want to get this cover. Just want to make sure the divider im getting is compatible with this setup
Hello, @Gear Know Cover. Where did you got that’s aluminum blocks in video 5:20? Please! Thank you!
Any recommendations for a similar cover that will not cover Toyota bed rails? I'd like to use the Toyota Cargo Divider. Thanks.
The MX4 Bakflip won’t cover the factory rails. You actually remove the rails with it and relocate them about an inch or two down on brackets that they supply.
Great video. Get an impact driver for those tight bolts!!!
Is it possible they sent me 2 of the same rails? My driver side sits and is installed correctly but my passenger side won’t
Love the video very helpful. Thanks man!!
Where you put back cargo holders
Awesome informative video! Have you had any issues with the outside weather stripping folding up over time?
So far so good! A little rust on some of the bolts but still running fine and no rubber gasket wear as I’ve seen some folks post about. My flaps are still flat.
@@GearKnowHow Awesome! Thank you for your reply! 😀 Keep up the awesome videos!
Do you think you would fit a bed rack with that installed?
Good video. Ian have the same situation. So pissed off that the tailgate does not have an auto lock feature with the doors. I've ordered the Toyota lock at $260 and I have to install it. Close to $600 if Toyota installs it. Are you considering doing this?
Yeah you’d think by now it would be standard. I have plans of installing one sometime in the near future.
Buy a Pop N Lock kit for the tailgate. It’s about $130 and takes about an hour to install.
Mine came with adaptor rails! Doesn’t work well, the clamps don’t hold rails snug and doesn’t sit on bed top. Have email to rough country to find out why
Thanks for helping me today for the install. However I didn't drill into my bed and I think it should be just fine without doing that
how's it holding up, I am about to get this cover but not going to drill holes. I cant imagine that much water getting in plus there are drain holes right at the bottom which I would be okay with water getting in cause it would drain out right away.
@@cexy63s Not a single drop off water has gotten inside my bed, works good. Careful though it's got a soft thin layer of aluminum on top
Did you block the drain hole?
How long does it take to remove it if needed?
Does water get in on this cover at all?
You did awesome!!
What year is your truck? I think my 2019 has a drain hole in the bed already
It’s a 2020 and has the drain holes in the floor but not the sides to push the water away from the bottom of the bed.
Can I install this on a 2021 trail edition
dude, you got the shakes, back off the mountain dew
🤪
someone not used to drilling could drill right out the side off there truck bed. I dont know why the water doesnt drain to the rear instead of the front.
Tacoma’s lean forward so the water naturally drains towards the front of the bed near the cab.
Looks awesome...I'm looking at options for my Tacoma thanks for the video!!!
I have the Lomax trifold hard cover on my 2021 Tacoma TRD OR and like it so far. There is no way I drill a hole in the bed of my truck. I don't need a 100% waterproof cover. I assume it doesn't leak much water in the bed so I would just not install the drain through the bed.
do the cargo tie downs that come with the truck fit in that new rail?
They do not
Thank you for the video 👍
One thing I learned about dark colors is that I can scramble eggs and bacon on my bed cover. At 12 pm it's about 210°. Never again
So I guess you can’t use your tie down cleats then with this on then?
Nah
Anyone Know if this will fit on a 2012 Tacoma?
Pass up on this. I aint drilling no holes in the bed.
Right. I just got a 2021 trd off road today. No way in hell am I cutting this shit up.
@@OMGItzChriis is a truck not a Lamborghini...
It’s just a small hole in the side of the bed liner, not in the truck. You could just not install the drains but then rain water will come down into the bed through the ports.
Yup and loose the side tie down rails.
I didn’t use the hoses and no water gets in my bed.
Didn’t see a follow up video on the drain tubes, makes me think they didn’t work.
Worked great! Switched to a Diamondback Cover though a little while back for added security.
Wouldn’t rough country think to just reverse the drain hole locations and have them drain out the back near the tailgate or through the bed lighting covers?
Tacoma tend to be front heavy so water actually drains towards the cab and there’s holes in the bed there too.
Have you had any issues with water getting in the bed.?
No major issues yet. Just seen a few small puddles mostly from opening the cover after a heavy rain.
@@GearKnowHow Do you have any towards the cab of the truck? I installed the tubes but still getting water in right by the corners
@@KoolCreation I would check to see if any sunlight is leaking through and add weather stripping as needed
Will a toyota tacoma 2020 fix dis cover?
Can anyone explain to me... why my clip on the right rear side keeps popping off??? Thanks...
I got the same one and i got water in side all the tine it sucks.
Does the tonneau cover not come with an attachment that will allow you to use the cargo rail?
I don’t think the low profile one does
Can not click the cover back and lock it.
Is your bed 5 feet or 6 feet?
5ft
What is the knife
What size is the drain tube?
About half inch
@@GearKnowHow thank you so much!
Damn bro that drill sucks 😂
Liked this until I see it renders the factory bed rail system useless...
So it makes the factory bed rails COMPLETELY USELESS other than holding the tonneau down. You can't even have cleats spaced between those aluminum blocks because it's blocked all the way down. What a stupid design. They could at least have gaps to strategically place the cleats. Yeah, take away factory (not even aftermarket) functionality! no thanks.
You're right. Dumbest design ever.
I agree. I got Rough Country cover that goes over the top and the rails are free (for the most part) to use the cleats. Good cover.
You lose the rails, and drill a hole in the bed to install this cover? No thanks
Sooooo. You should buy a real drill.
Haha done
Pos leaks terrible
Everything was nice...until you make a hole...never in my truck!!!
Why you putting a metal cover on a plastic bed 😂
Some nice tools like that black and decker drill 😂
