- (12 Dec 2014) The funeral was held of Belgium's Queen Fabiola on Friday at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels, one week after her death.
Fabiola was a popular figure in Belgium, and was very close to her husband, the late King Baudouin.
She died last Friday, aged 86.
A number of European royals attended her funeral.
The royal palace said Fabiola died at her Stuyvenberg castle in Brussels, and no cause of death was given. However, she had used a wheelchair, was increasingly frail looking and limited her public appearances more and more.
King Philippe said he was left with "great sadness" when he heard of the death of his aunt.
Spanish-born Fabiola and King Baudouin had shared a deep belief in Roman Catholic values.
The couple was reclusive and remained childless following several miscarriages.

It may have been her wish. She was a very humble and pious lady. She came from an illustrious family and married into another, so this may have been a way to show humility to god.
it was her own wish.

Are there no British royals present?
No
I have looked at the films on TH-cam and cannot see anyone from the British Royal Family there, although the other European royals were all present. One would expect Prince Charles or Princess Anne to have attended - if so one cannot see them. Queen Elizabeth II attended the funeral of King Badouin (exceptionally as she did not attend funerals of other European royals) some 15 years earlier.
@@marc21091I hope Charles III will be warmer and less aloof than his late mother.
Weird funeral🙈
It’s a Catholic Requiem Mass
