My grandfather bought this old 1941 Farmall A when he was farming, then it was my dads (he added the mower deck and had it painted), I use it to mow my field grass, and my 6yr old son loves to help! That's 4th gen driving this old girl. I absolutely love it.

That's a good looking and sounding tractor. Looks like your helper was enjoying the power steering lol.

Antifreeze will take your motor out. Must be a head gasket or maybe something simpler

Back in the old days, they ran alcohol in the winter time.

Great video. Did you buy the belly mower separately? I just bought an A and am looking to do the same thing. I am guessing they have kits which include the belly mower, lever arm to adjust height of the belly mower, and the extra belts/setup between the PTO and undercarriage?

So my grandpa bought this new. My dad owns it now and restored it. He said I can have it. My dad added the belly mower. Don’t know the details sorry.

You used your left hand to crank. Few people know that now.

Nice video - thanks for posting it. I can still hear my dad telling me to keep my thumbs on the outside of the steering wheel on our Farmall H, with the narrow wheels.
My eyes go right there, every time.

I'm interested in how they connected the mower deck to the tractor I have a 1941 Farmall A that was my great-grandfather's and it runs and works

Its just bolted underneath the axle, seems a common thing to add to these, google or check some farmal groups.

I don’t ever remember using the crank.

It has electric start also, but the crank is so cool.

I learned how to drive on a 49 Super A, that did not have the electric starter option, it became my 'chore' to operate it, as I had no issues starting it, where as my stepdad seemed to have trouble getting the old machine to run properly.

Got a chance to buy a 1940 farmall A model,,the tractor is in good shape, motor runs well,,going to need to buy a new deck for it and where can I buy attachments? Any idea? The owner is asking 3k for the tractor but if a deck is going to cost like 5 k..I don't know if it's worth it. Thanks for any info. And your time.

    Love it, LOVE IT!!
Brings back fond memories of summers on the farm in the 60's & 70's.
Work was sunup til sundown then catfishing or frog gigging most of the night.
    Sleep?
Yeah...when we went back to school : )
