Which type of bassist are you? Pretty sure I'm the guy who sound checks really quietly but then plays really loud 🤣👇🏻
The crazy faces guy would do much better with me
The guitarist
The crazy faces with the metal dude
The beginner 🙂
Hate to say it but, im the guy who doesn't change strings.
You didn't include me: the guy who plays one riff after another for 10 seconds each because he lacks the discipline to practice correctly.
THIS HIT SO CLOSE
I feel attacked
I am this guy but guitar!

the teenager
@@bob-vf8mw If it was, I'd be Victor Wooten by now.
My favourite was the really happy guy😂
Mine is #9
Yes❗ After all the meaning of playing is to make people happy. 🎶😊
I like #2 Crazy Faces Guy... when I hear a funked out baseline, the notes make me do weird things with my face uncontrollably! 🥴
Im the really happy guy

4:45 Playing 'Seven Nation Army' as a major scale is so cursed but sooooooo perfect for this one 😆
I only started yesterday with playing acoustic guitar and seven nation army is the first I'm learning, i feel kinda offended xD

@@svenjansen2134 I'm already learning chords, but thanks for the advice 🙌🏻
@@Ichbinclaraundswaghey hows it going??? its been like a year or so, id love to hear your progress
It was August 2020,lockdown period. My brothers 5 string ibanez bass was lying around. Thought id give it a try. Since there was nothing much to do, I started practicing everyday for like 8 hours. I was also going through a major heartbreak. I will complete two years this August. This instrument has helped me so much mentally I cannot even put it to words. ❤️
My best wishes for your future
Never realized until right now that I wasn’t a bad bassist, just avant-garde!!
😂
Same :)
@@devinreese7704 Now they can have the joy of people who can't play anything going out of their way to tell them they are pretentious middle class wankers.

We were so under appreciated.
I envy 12. He's just happy to be playing even if he's not doing anything fancy or difficult or flashy. Just vibing.

Crazy faces guy is a gem. He's just jamming and loving it
I've said it before: This guy is beyond almost all musicians, and with a sense of humor that indicates humility. By being humble and supportive, he uplifts us.
As a drummer that has played in many, many bands, I can confidently say I've played with all these guys.
Are you the drummer who played in every band but can't really play drums?
Which one did you enjoy playing with the most?
@@vagstuten9454 I'd imagine it'd be the really happy guy-
@@afonsodeportugal Lars Ulrich?
Which one is the most annoying?
You should add The Lemmy: plays with a pick, clearly is playing the bass like a guitar but hey, he is cool and it sounds cool, so you are not going to stop it.
Yeah lemmy was bassically a guitarist that just picked up a bass one day so I guess I’m a Lemmy
NO ONE could stop Lemmy
Lemmy is a primordial force. imo in his hands the bass is not so much an instrument as it is a shamanic device to invoke the powers of the ancient Druids.
I use the present tense because he is not gone. He simply exists in another form now.
Lemmy was a god amongst men.
He might fall into 'doesn't change strings (until they break) guy' category as well. Was with a film crew interviewing him 20-odd years back, the strings on the Rickenbacker he had with him were rusting.
Wow, what a humble guy. The best bassist of all times think it's unbelievable that he is. Does that make you the number 8 type?
After years playing guitar, you and davi504 made me decide to buy a bass! This instrument is so nice!!!
You can’t be a bassist if you’re happy, that’s the rule
we're all extremely depressed ngl :)))
But I can act happy :D
@@father_ork can you?
Hey i lost my happiness like 10 years ago!
I’ve been playing drums for 30 years and I’m just now finding out that I should have been playing the bass?! Now I’m even more unhappy and looking at basses online 🤷🏼♂️😭
... i am the metal guy, the guy who never changes his strings, the happy guy, and "the guy who despite playing 15 years still has to concentrate super hard just to do some of the most basic stuff, and will never hold a candle to anyone who practices regularly, but i just enjoy screwing with it".
Yes
Holy crap....I already commented, but you nailed me better than I did with yours lol
I'm definitely the last one. I mean I can play fast but it's sloppy as fuck lol
Hello brother
Metal guy, happy, and never changing your strings. Are you geezer butler?
I love the riff at 1:13 even with an untuned bass you still make it sound right.
Anyone that has ever worked in a music store sees these same types, very funny sadly true. You rock, I can’t believe the talent you have and the sound you get truly amazing, keep play bro we really envoy your videos and music🎸🎸
As a drummer I vote for "Crazy Faces Guy" -as long as you can play, having fun is the next most important thing. Stay humble amigo.

@@yaboyblacklist2431 "the jaco elitist" part
@@yaboyblacklist2431 Thank you :) it was one of the friendliest things I could think of, that was also sorta unique. And as has been mentioned, the Chopin Nocturne was in "13. The Jaco Elitist" :)
@@Eselta_ I see. Thank you for the quick response.
I'm #6 (but like... not that fast) and #7 (I have neither the money nor memory to get new strings).
I also basically always tune by ear, unless I'm moving by something other than a whole step (e.g. D to Drop C#), or I'm just off in the weeds.
I enjoyed the video and I’ve probably met someone over the years who fits each category. The only category you didn’t have is mine - average guy who’s an average bass player but who derives a lot of joy from just playing music I like. Keep up the great work, Charles!

The ''Jazz elitist'' was so right in point. Still remember the King Crimson jazz trio album.

I'll never forget a moment with one of the best bassist I've ever seen. It was a live show for a local st pete fl band called Megma Smegma. He was insane. Afterwards my bassist friend asked him for any advice on playing. He said "yeah, don't play bass" and left the club. Just couldn't understand how someone so good could be so bitter

4:47 I love that alted scale.
When I saw the "avanguardist" it reminded me as a kid, using the body of the guitar as a fret AND tremolo with the smallest string.
2. My parents used to make a game out of catching me making faces during performances when I played double bass in orchestra. They were largely successful.
100% why I played baritone back in the low brass. If I'm not playing I have the attention span of a brick and the audience doesn't need to worry about what I'm doing.
My mom did the same out of when I did weird faces with saxophone- especially during a solo.
She had a tally of how many times I'd briefly close my eyes during a passage and it's embarrassing to say it's well in the hundreds from high school alone, let alone college.

La quantità di tecnica dietro questo video è veramente impressionante...complimenti sia per l'ironia che per la professionalità
As a fan of avant garde music, that's was weirdly accurate
Honestly, just needs someone reading slam poetry overtop of it, a synth line recorded on a Nokia down the road, and someone playing an aztec death whistle swimming in reverb.
@@callmecraig3046 lmao
@@callmecraig3046 i'd probably listen to that unironically
As a fan of avant garde music, that is was weirdly accurrate. that is what you wrote.
I loved "The Jazz Elitist". Reminds me of a drum solo by a jazz professor I heard. He succeeded in making the entire audience (and his band) lose time in the first 10 seconds.
It reminded me of a video I watched of legendary jazz guitarist Joe Pass performing an extremely well-known standard (though now I can't recall the name of it). Yeah, Joe's a fantastic player, but between all of the fancy jazz chords and elaborate embellishments, I literally could not find the actual melody. Like, I knew the melody, and I simply could not detect it anywhere in what he was playing.
@@rikosborne1212 Melody is overrated. Real jazz fans do not care about melody. It is all about the expression and about the right approach to the proper theory.
@@u.v.s.5583 I really liked you in this video 0:37
@@MrAllallalla Well, he's not wrong. Jazz is, and always has been, about improvisation and making well known pieces of music somehow different by messing with the time signature and harmony. You can criticise him for being a bad rock or classical guitarist, but that wasn't his intention.
@@rikosborne1212 man, jazz is improvisation, the idea is NOT to repeat the same melody, that's what you have the album for
This was hilarious. I wish I had seen it when I had time to vote for you for the best bassist!♥️
I was the sound check guy LOL...i even had an eq pedal with basically my tones boosted to get even louder when needed...such a great video

You should add bassist who is actually a guitar player, but there were already two guitarists in the band when he decided to join them. And a “guy who Glenn Fricker hates” too, but 10 year old strings guy kinda fits and a show-off with a rich collector type. Great basslines as always!
Best thing ever happen to me. Today I'm the happy bass player after 40 years ab playing bass. When I was 15 I was the (not so skilled) third guitarist who want to join. And - there was a bass in the corner. So what. I started learning playing bass. Amd sometimes I played 12 string in the band (cause I was the one who own this instrument and was able to tune it). But bass was much more fun. So many guitarists around and not many bassists.
@@hesspet that’s really cool! I’m 31 now, so your bass-journey is longer than my life!
@@hesspet I became a bass player after being surrounded by guitar players everywhere and it has certainly paid off. Plus, bass is one of the most important parts of a band 😁
I like Glenn's channel, but his bass player shtick is annoying.
Isn’t the first one technically just Paul McCartney?
Why is nobody talking about number 8's solo? It's incredible!
sir, charles you made my day a very happy day!! 😂😂😂😂
You also have the Glenn or Geddy types. The ones able to play complex melodies and super easily just sing with excellent vocal technique at the same bloody time without messing up a single bass note. I can barely breathe or blink while doing anything more difficult than holding a cup of coffee.
Jack Bruce or Greg Lake are also great examples of singer-bassists
@@johnxina5126 @Mr.Useless I think we should hang out more🍻🍻
Another example could be Paul McCartney
How has no one in this thread mentioned les claypool

Would have liked to see the "less in more" bassist. Or "bassist who only knows how to play the roots and came up with a whole philosophy to justify it."
In otherwords the keyboard warrior haters lol
0:04 was my favorite part. Good job!
I had the massive amp I used to hit the harmonic on the on the 12th fret and make the house shake
I've been a musician for 35 years and the funniest part of this is its very accurate .
And the coolest part is hes only 34
And i am all of them, just not as good as this guy is.
Definitely the happy Bassist. Playing with a band again since January and well it just brings a big smile to my face every time I play.
The Jaco thing cracked me up! Bravo.
I want to learn how to play stringed instruments again like guitars but every time I play a bad or guitar I immediately get reminded I have no technique but I’d like to play bass as a hobby and still totally be able to show off at a party or something
I’m more of a “hyper focused” player. My eyes are completely glued to the strings while I play.
"If you want melody, you're a fascist." ~Jazz Elitist
14 is basically Lars Ulrich, but on bass, lol.
