Gorgeous song. Haunting, beautiful vocals. He had the most amazing voice. The lyrics and the string section are so beautiful. The song is a work of art. RIP Billy. I will always love you and your music,
One of the greatest tracks of the 80's. A decade when alot of the mainstream music was shite but the indie scene rocked. RIP Billy, you got me through many hard lonely nights
31 years on and this song still sounds as beautiful and haunting as it did when i first heard it ... I'l never forget the talented Mr Mackenzie ..... and i still play my albums .....
Grown up with Led Zep, Purple and Black Sabbath. Punk when I was 18! Later back to heavy such as Metallica. But inbetween there are those jewels: Bowie's 'Lady grinning soul', Japan's 'Nightporter', some songs by Eno and so on. And this one is shining brightly among them!
wow such a beautifull song remines me the days of 1985 on divine club in tel aviv the closing song on the club, miss those days miss this great music of the 80's....
She gave herself They took her to their hearts Clapped their hands till sore Once more eyes smart Taxidermist gave life to Hugh It sits and begs And stares at you Since when did you cook breakfast for Lieutenant Paul in ruined mirador This lease on life can tie you down So precious is the jagged crown Talk to me I'll stay these vagabond nights Walk with me someone is waiting in light Exchanging worlds arranging days To suit a lover Who'll never stay Breakfast skies Bring curtains down Upon a crumbling lacquered gown A crumbling lacquered gown Ooh talk to me I'll stay these vagabond nights Walk with me someone is waiting in light
That's a TH-cam problem sometimes, I'm afraid - sometimes the picture streams more slowly than the sound. It's perfectly in sync on my original DVD. :-)
Yeah it does seem a little out of synch but never mind, it doesn't detract from how amazing Billy was. RIP Billy, you are sadly missed. Wish you were still here making wonderful music
as in "the rhythm divine"? check out yello and shirley bassey's video here on youtube. lyrics by billy mackenzie. his talent will live on for eternity! R.I.P. sweet prince.
There were some amazing songs in the 80s but the videos were arse. I think listening to this without watching the video changes the whole thing. The videos look so dated but the music sounds as new and amazing to me now as it did 30 years ago.
Colin O'Neill yeah they were a bit arse but I think videos today are worse; massively esoteric wankfests with too much emphasis on attempting 'art' but failing. This is just a guy performing with a piano I guess, straightforward but does the job nicely.
Gorgeous song. Haunting, beautiful vocals. He had the most amazing voice. The lyrics and the string section are so beautiful. The song is a work of art. RIP Billy. I will always love you and your music,
Great tune. Baffles me that such a talented and handsome man took his life. He and is music is very sadly missed. RIP Billy.
One of the greatest tracks of the 80's. A decade when alot of the mainstream music was shite but the indie scene rocked. RIP Billy, you got me through many hard lonely nights
Perhaps Billy's finest hour. In any event, this neglected, great work will eventually be revisited and recognised, as the work of genious that it is.

Masterpiece and Billy's vocals bring a lump to the throat.
Such a beautiful song. Still very sadly missed - Billy McKenzie RIP xxx

EPIC tune from the Associates. Just some great piano and that never bettered voice.
Love the arrangements on this song - one of his best.
Perhaps Billy's finest hour. In any event, this neglected, great work will eventually be revisited and recognised, as a true song of genius
One of the most beautifull songs ever!
Haunting, beautiful song. What a voice Billy had and so under rated.
Such a magnificent accomplishment. It's heartbreakingly beautiful.

Died far too young R.I.P Billy x
She gave herself
They took her to their hearts
Clapped their hands till sore
Once more eyes smart
Taxidermist gave life to Hugh
It sits and begs
And stares at you
Since when did you cook breakfast for
Lieutenant Paul in ruined mirador
This lease on life can tie you down
So precious is the jagged crown
Talk to me I'll stay these vagabond nights
Walk with me someone is waiting in light
Exchanging worlds arranging days
To suit a lover
Who'll never stay
Breakfast skies
Bring curtains down
Upon a crumbling lacquered gown
A crumbling lacquered gown
Ooh talk to me I'll stay these vagabond nights
Walk with me someone is waiting in light

A Fantastic voice a tragic loss .............RIP Billy x
Great song, one of my all time favorites! Such a unique voice!
One of my favourite all-time non-hits. Looks a bit chilly and murky in the video. Wonder where it was shot.
Tune. Had forgotten this one until I heard another of theirs on R2 earlier. Thanks for posting.
sublime....

The 80s was all indie!
I would love to know where the jetty at the begging is. It looks the the Lake of Menteith. Does anybody know any of the locations in the video?
I heard this on the Jonathan Ross show last Saturday a.m. and the big tool had the good taste not to spout drivel over it.
does any1 know where the outside scenes were shot?

+Colin O'Neill IMHO 80's videos were wonderful just like the music
