The main challenge with the carpenters is, they all have different level of skills...so with the same plan/design, you'll get different results with different carpenters e.i. from good to worse...also it's quite common that he might not be serious or dedicated with finishing the job in time and/or with good results... delays are most likely as many are with laid back attitude ... they might disappear for some reasons (with your money) ...and as of having an advantage of selecting materials, you need to have the knowledge of it in the first place... which I believe many don't...so you rely on your carpenter who might suggest something of HIS advantage... personally, I would go for the modular....BTW..you say one might not have time to visit the workshop - but with a carpenter you'll spend 2/3 months (running around like crazy to purchase the materials)...very contradictory....
Exactly, I’m thinking the same too. I m planning to buy material by my own, with the help of carpenter and get assembled by him , also few item by his own. Perfect advise, thank you so much.
I am about to order full furniture except kitchen (which has already been ordered from sleek kitchens) for my 3 BHK newly constructed house. My main question here is whether to go for Marine ply or HDHMR as base material for all my furniture?
Hi , can u plz reply to this.. we are making our wardrobes in modular… we have used sliding door in one bedroom… which has some grooves and multifinish…. They have added aluminium profile to borders and increased price by 17k, they are telling shutter will not have strength without these, since we have used grooves nd multifinish.. can u plz tell this is correct ? Will shutters with grooves have strength without aluminium borders??
regarding one of the con's which you had explained in regard's of modular topics that those furniture quality and hardware fittings varies factory to factory and end user gets exploited due to quality issues, i would like to share my point is, quality branded hardware if used for any type of boards they are easy to assemble and as well disassemble. i have 10+ years experience in such European brands who have long lasting furniture fitting options, and i had noticed few modular furniture factories in india who uses those qulality products.
Hey, your video is quite helpful for me. I have a problem I can't go for combination of both ie. Modular and carpenter because in my city there is no such factory, all the factory work done in Bombay, thats why Iam planning to go for complete carpenter work but I want a factory made finish, kindly guide me to achieve that..
I am a freelancer in Modular Kitchen and wardrobe and other homedecors. I use 100% marine ply at below countertop and bwr at other places. I am in Bangalore . and all the product is machine made 100%. No work at site except the installation.
Very very informative and helpful me. Thank you so much for this informative video, i hope your channel will become more great and more success. Great job guys. (Big Thank you from Indonesia)
Thank god yesterday only I decided to go with modular kitchen with factory finishing. Then I came to know that they use block board and engineering board. I was confused after watching your video decided to go with carpenter. Thank you so much brother. Make another video on carpentry work with the help of architect. Where can we find architect and how much we have to pay ect.
The carpentry furniture also depends on the skills of the carpenter... If an unskilled carpenter he fan ruin U R entire furniture.... Which happens with major carpenters....
The video is about 4 yrs old so I don’t know if your perspective has changed today or not but there are a million wrong things you spoke about Modular furniture and carpentry both. Like especially the cons, almost all of them were way out of place for both.
You'll have to understand that if you're looking from an engineering and manufacturing perspective, construction and interior industry is still not close to the kind of precision achieved by auto industry. From accuracy, precision and repeatability perspective, my view has not changed.
But as a consumer, as I suggested in the video, structure should be done in factory, customisation at site to be done by carpenter. The correct answer is not either one but both. It should be supervised by an experienced architect or interior designer.
Today one my friend who may be in that sort of furniture industry came to my home.. i told him I want wardrobe 7×6 and king size bed 7×6.5 he tell me costing is 1.40L I think this is high cost.. what u think
Seems like you are not having in depth knowledge about modular furniture, most big Indian manufacturers and companies since 2016 have started using MR (Moisture Resistant), BWR(Boiling Water Resistant) and BWP(Boiling Waterproof) grade plywood that too they’re usually brands Greenply etc. And the part that you’re saying about customisation is completely wrong, in fact there’s more customisation possible and the products that go into your furniture are mentioned more clearly in the quotation and sign off drawings. In carpentry in fact the material list given is not complete, 4 sites of mine have been done by carpenter(both residential and commercial) on site The 3 channel sliding door you spoke about was done at one of my homes in 2018 using lacquered glass. At this point I stopped watching this video and wrote this comment. Im not proving that modular furniture is better than carpentry, just saying you’re misinformed and need to really explore more. Carpentry and Modular just like anything have their advantages and disadvantages but what you’re explaining isn’t quite right in a few aspects.

Thank you you r very knowledgeable 👌🏼
if the modular furniture which made at a designers own factory uses marine ply, then whats your view on strength and durability.
right material + right skilled carpenter both are equally important
Which is highly cost carpenter or already made?
Exactly, I’m thinking the same too. I m planning to buy material by my own, with the help of carpenter and get assembled by him , also few item by his own. Perfect advise, thank you so much.
The biggest challenge is to find a reliable and highly skilled carpenter.
Do you carry out any design activities? If yes where are you operating from?

This is very inaccurate naration of modular vs carpenter work comparison. Modular has large set of advantages compared to carpentry work.

If you get a good professional carpenter 50% of you headache is gone.
