Carpenter-made is always best. Might not give you the high-tech shine or beauty of modular kitchens but Carpenter-made ones are much more sturdy. More than 15ys I have a desk. Made to order Carpenter-made desk. Till today is super sturdy. My Dad's is bought at a furniture store for office use. Super weak. Can't hold more than few things. You def can't stand on it to fix the lighting or anything either. Will break. Custom-made carpenter stuff is always best. They measure everything, will work with every single idea of yours, most importantly, the wood you want to use. Cheap plywood is usually used to make modular kitchens because that's what will easily open and close because heavy wood = hinges breaking apart. The shine might look nice but one year later it will look super bad. All the smoke, dust and oil splatters will kill the shine and colors. Carpenter ones don't do this. Just sand and one coat of varnish = a brand new look. Modular ones have acrylic coatings mostly, if not matt or gloss. No good. But cost-wise carpenter-made kitchens are super expensive. Because they won't use cheap wood and everything is made by hand mostly. Carpenters in India don't use high-tech stuff. I like modular kitchens too since the carpenter ones are too costly. I think semi-modular kitchens are best.

Carpenters will travel with you to shops to see what you need. They buy it all and bring to house. My desk was carpenter custom made. Expensive. Been 15ys or so. Still looks brand new even today. No need for even new coat of varnish. Such good work. Modular kitchen finishes are so bad. I saw many ppls modular kitchens. The plywood looked pasted on and the pull out draws had very rough finish on the inside. And they said it costed them like 10 lakhs. Waste of money. Carpenters will smooth it all well. Carpenter is better Handmade = more care and time invested. Everyone says modular kitchens start looking like crap after 5yrs even with good maintenance. The finish they use starts wearing off badly. With carpenter-made stuff, just sand it down and coat of varnish = brand new look. You can't do this with modular. Carpenters will also work on-site and build everything acc to your wishes. Modular is not that easy to fit to your vision. I have been to modular kitchen stores and they are so damn finicky. They show charts saying they use high-quality woods, it costs 2 lakhs, waterproof blah blah blah and I open only to see it being so lightweight and hinges being so bad. That is not quality. Carpenter custom stuff is very expensive though. Built to last for life. Modular kitchens are not built to last. It's why lot of ppl praise the stuff of back then. A lot of ppl are now cooking in natural metals and stoneware instead of non-stick cookware. Soon, modular will also lose its popularity and ppl will rely on custom-made carpenter stuff. Modular kitchen wood is just sheets of thin plywood glued together. It's not made from one strong piece because the hinges will break from the weight. Carpenters will even work with Teak wood. Modular kitchens don't work with those woods, at least not in India. Needs more knowledge on how to work with it for modern kitchens.

modular kitchen is just a bullshit.. I get no idea what is inside particle board & bwp grade plywood. On carpenter made kitchen I can monitor every step with quality.
