Secondary gain really is important but soo tricky. I know that my sickness protects me from overdoing, crossed boundaries and helps me to say No. I know that it is my task to learn these things - yet my body keeps protecting me and does not trust me, so kinda stuck here.
Keep practicing boundaries , not overdoing, and saying no amongst other pain reprocessing techniques. It’ll eventually the symptom won’t need to protect you
Amazing! Truth. I've always been afraid of letting my anger loose. So, for yrs I would hold it in until I couldnt anymore. I would explode and tell them off.I din't know how to deal with my anxiety/anger. I have been in cognitive therapy most of my life. But, most important. I have a strong faith in Our Lord. I don't think i could have made it thru my life without my faith.Physical pain has been present when life has gotten hard to cope with. Ty! Grateful to both of you. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@Jen, I've been listening to all of your interviews over the past few weeks since taking a course in Christian brain rewire and I'll continue to listen to all your interviews until I'm caught up. Thank you so much! This has been so helpful to me. But I do have a question, why are you all taking the word " connection" away from mind- body?
There’s no separation between the two. You can’t disconnect them because they are more integrated than they are connected, therefore it’s just simpler to remove one word. The word “connection” seems redundant. Our mental and physical health are less connected and more integrated than anything. But I often use the term mind body connection - no big deal. 🤷🏻♀️ either way is fine in my opinion.
Thank you so much! This podcast has been so enlightening and impactful. this kind of research is so important to contributing to the medical community as a whole and to individuals such as myself, trying to recover from TMS pain. I definitely can relate to some of the barriers to healing that this study has brought to light. This is is so important for my ability to identify what may be holding me back from fully recovering. thank you both for your contributions that improve the likelihood of of regaining, my health and life.
Hey Jennifer, is there anyway to make an appointment with yourself or Douglas to set up some sort of therapy? My body and mind are falling apart and I'm desperate to talk to a therapist, but I need someone who understands this mind body concept. Thanks!
Secondary gain is absolutely real and needs to be talked about. I see it in myself over and over. Once I shed light on it, it is less powerful.
Me too. So helpful!
