    He's right about machine learning, it's going to change everything. People downplay it, saying it has been around for years, but computer networks were around for years and then suddenly; world wide web.
    This guy is multidisciplinary, I'm wondering if we all need to become experts in multiple fields, now that it's so easy to self teach.

    • @tillholder2400

      Hmm.. I wouldn't say it's necessarily easy, but definitely accessible.

    • @dongiovanni1993
      @dongiovanni1993 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, nowadays it's harder and harder to stay ignorant. :-) Of course if we talk about humans. And notice the fact that the greatest breakthroughs happen on the edge of the disciplines. So, first we teach our machines to learn, and then we learn from them how to learn. :-) And on this way we need an AI to handle for us all the details, and use our own brains for the highest levels of abstraction only. Then it would be possible a great leap. Now with no working AI our brain is too limited to handle a whole information array of multiple disciplines in depth at once. That's, actually, why we have this knowledge fragmentation, this diverse kinds of science. So the future needs this automation.
      And the guy is on the right way. If we had at least 50% of such people, the Earth would be a way more pleasant place.

    What Efllam is doing actually is more "meaningful learning" instead of "rote learning" as Andrew said, since rote learning is based basically on repetition, which is what he's doing (repeating the routine of learning the same subject) although he is studying repetitively to achieve a deeper and deeper understanding of the subject, in a level that the subject (anatomy, for example) becomes natural. This process is also totally related by what Efflam said about machine learning, because the difference between the regular machines and the "learning machines" is that the learning machines try different routes to a solution, while the regular one would be repetitively doing the same thing. So Efflam is watching those videos about anatomy, probably getting different kinds of information, not just "this is the muscle A, and this is B, this is muscle A, and this is muscle B" repetitively like memorizing the alphabet.
    Thanks Andrew for all the interesting interview, I've watched all of them, and they're really amazing!
    Also congrats for Efflam for showing us his amazing mind, I identified myself a lot with you.
    P.S.: Sorry for the note, I didn't want to sound like I'm correcting something since it's just a great conversation between two people, but the topic might be interesting for other people to search about!

    Automation is just so chilling and scary for people who are not employed in a mental kind of job and have already seen 70 % of their former tasks being done by software now (and seen 80% of their colleagues get fired). Not being afraid is great for people whose job is "having creative ideas". But what about everyone else? I hope we'll come up with meaningful jobs for everyone.

      Same with "you know, like.........Like like? You know, like..." lots of "like" :D I think this is the thing with the foreigners in the English language in general I assume, since I am foreigner and I can relate to it a bit, and that's what I have noticed just as well in others that the tendency to say that phrase more is within the foreigners.
      But it can just as well be within the natives, since it simply means you don't know what to say or how to say it, and you constantly relate things to something, or usually have hard time explaining something which results in you saying - "you know what I mean?" which might be a result of having in life people who tended to not understand as well and constantly had to explain things, resulting in an automatic response with a question "you know what I mean?" to make sure if what he says gets through.
      This reminds me the edited interview of Weird Al Yankovic with Eminem :D the part "you know what I mean?" was edited and made it as if it was real, pretty hilarious :D

    Hi andrew, you know what i love your tutorials and interviews, watched all of the videos of yours. Fundamentally i have learnt blender from you. I started blender from the manual but left it anf started it learning truly from your tutorials. In my deep heart i think you are my teacher. But i am requesting you to continue to teach and make tutorials. Missing u man really and missing your tutorials. Recently i have seen your tutorials to become just smaller and just giving the viewers with only the key points. But andrew one thing i want to say is that people love you and your tutorials because they find that extra edge in your teachings. The way you explain every point and cover each aspect in your tutorial is unique and we love you for that. Continue to teach like you always used to teach us.
    Your hopefully and student

    1:03:10 very good definition differentiating concept art from illustration art, so many beginner artists see many portfolios with illustrations and think that every production concept art must have that finish to it.

    Efflam Mercier, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
    And what I thought, what if you need more time for learning. ;-) Try to look over the work of Stephen LaBerge PhD on lucid dreams. It gives some extra time to live (to learn). All you need to use this extra time is to build your skills to control your dreams. It's easy, the technique is pretty documented, and even a hardware gizmo was developed. And what you get is the ability to train new skills while sleeping. Even pure muscle memory based skills, like skiing, or ping-pong playing. Yes, the actual muscles are disabled during sleeping, and the control ring is not actually totally closed, but the brain is a great estimator, and it knows our muscles and nerves even better than we think it does. ;-)
    I like your way of spending time, and it seems you have an idea of its real value, so I just have to point the way to get a bit more of it. And I personally use it, and it works, no metaphysics, no humbugs.

    Such an awesome interview! I'm a bit scared about Efflam's thoughts on the keyframe/illustration jobs availability because I'm obviously more interested in those jobs rather than the real concept design field, but I totally get his point. I think I'll create a portfolio developing props and keyframes for a fake movie/game based on an existing IP trying to get a job at some point. Does anyone know if this idea could be a good compromise?

    • @aemanuelli42
      @aemanuelli42 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      SuicideCringe123 Yes, keyframe!

    • @aemanuelli42
      @aemanuelli42 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A keyframe (painting) it's basically an illustration of a certain scene (a key scene) of the film/game/tvseries you're working on. It helps establish the general look of the product and help the different art department to understand the direction this product will go. My english is so bad I hope you'll understand my definition. In any case you can check here an interesting article on this topic:
      filmsketchr.blogspot.com/2013/10/what-is-keyframe-concept-art.html
