Bellingham is a great place, but the weather isn't better here than it is in Seattle. Seattle gets 58 inches of rainfall per year, and Bellingham gets 64. Bellingham also gets colder in the winter. The coldest temperature recorded in Bellingham in 2022 was 8F vs. 18F in Seattle. For 2021 Bellingham got down to 6F while Seattle only got down to 17F.
The weather is nice in July and August. It's cold and rainy the rest of the time, and can be smoky in the late summer and early fall due to fires in the mountains (caused by our two months of nice weather drying everything out).
What's good about Bellingham is it's proximity to the mountains and the fact that Seattle is about 90 minutes away, and Vancouver, Canada is about 60 minutes away.
The city has some nice amenities, like walking trails and parks, but there aren't a lot of high paying jobs and there's a housing shortage. But like a lot of cities on the west coast, it has a serious homeless problem that's only getting worse. If you move here, be sure to take a really close look at the neighborhood you want to live in. Check vacant lots and wooded areas in the neighborhood for homeless encampments because they're tucked away all over the city. It's not quite as obvious as it is in Seattle, but it's here and it's a lot worse than it was 10 years ago.
I live here and I like it OK, but I would honestly say, that for the money it costs to live here, there are probably better places. Bellingham isn't the bargain that it was 20 years ago.

If you think Bellingham is a nice city to come to its not plain and simple, been here for 6 years now and all the friends I have made have turned away because If you have even the slightest political views or opinion you are to be shunned and out casted amongst the younger generation and the older generation just disagree with you and tell you "you're wrong" even if its just an opinion. This is a cultural thing here, EVERYTHING is political
The Homeless Crisis is fueled by the drug epidemic and I've also lost a few friends to heroin and fentanyl and have been exposed to it myself while working in the Hotel industry. Alcoholism is a huge problem which no one talks about, I constantly hear people talking about bars, talking about craft beers, the amount of people I see coming into my store on a daily basis shaking uncontrollably because they haven't had their first sip of the day is too many and they are all within the range of 30-50 years of age.
There is nothing to do here other than Bike, Hike, or walk by homeless people/drunks (especially on the weekends) We have a small arcade which also sells alcohol for the parents "spending time with their kids" and the teenagers just needing a place to hang out at besides the mall which is over in the ghetto part of Bellingham. Most of the fun things in Bellingham that were fun to do, were gutted by Covid regulations and never brought back to normalcy. There really isn't much opportunity besides going to college or a trade school.
So tell me again how great this city is cause I can keep going about my discrepancies', either way I'm moving back down south asap cause this is horseshit.
    UPDATE:
Got out and have been having a much better time down in Texas, get out of Washington state, Spokane was cool tho.

The demographics are also not in favor for older single men who don’t make over 50k a year. This will be a very lonely place if you are over 40 and don’t have a high paying job.

I am born and raised in Bellingham. At 23 the population has almost tripled in my life time, the city is unrecognizable from my childhood in most neighborhoods, the city has gentrified and has become expensive. Traffic, parking, and housing is horrific.
ive live here my whole life and it's cold, dark, and wet here 9 month out of the year so even if you like the outdoors you better like being wet, cold and using artificial light with it getting Dark at 4 in the winter time. The trails are also always packed full of people now when the weathers nice so there is no peace or privacy. This place would be alright if it wasnt for all the gentrifiers coming here from California, the abused becoming the abusers. The Californians move here because they got gentrified out of cali but then do the samething here and across the country. Its gotten unatanable to live here working a blue collar job as a single male, let alone those with families. If you dont make $100,000 a year, there is no chance of starting a family here. Eastern Washington is slightly more affordable, but there is no hope left for Western Washington.

There are not many high paying jobs in Bellingham, and housing prices are not affordable. There is already to many people. If more people move here, then it will be like Vancouver Bc, where the advantage home is a million $. Then the homeless will increase along with crime.

I plan to move east. Already living near Bellingham but there are a few places worth shopping. You want to shop in Ferndale and Lynden, which are both good places to shop at. Edaleen Dairy has the best ice cream and is a local dairy area. They stretch from just outside the border to Canada in Lynden and branch out. There is a Best Buy and Wal Mart. The Best Buy is the best tech store I've ever been to when it comes to options and they have a variety of shows and movies.
But back to Bellingham, if you want a more affordable area to live then Bellingham isn't it. Neighboring towns will have cheaper houses, ranging under 500k and even under 400k. Old houses needing renovations might go for under 300k, but you'll have to put in the money to fix any issues.

Um, the annual rainfall in Seattle is almost EXACTLY the same in Bellingham. Literally no difference. Not sure what you mean those comments, a simple google search (and living here my entire life) will tell you that. Also, both are marine climate. Not sure where this info is coming from.
As for the homeless population, if you’re comparing to other west coast cities, maybe you’re right, but the lax “laws” of the past years has seen a significant surge in homelessness and crime… like VERY significant… again, google search.

If you only saw three homeless people, you were obviously walking/driving around with your eyes shut, they are literally taking over, sleeping in business doorways, panhandling at intersections, knocking on car doors in parking lots asking for money, and taking over the downtown library. Woke Liberals want Bellingham to be just like Seattle, full of crime, drugs and homeless folk and all the filth, they leave behind, to say nothing of doing drugs out in the open on public streets. Taxpayers are stuck wasting money on Police, Fire and Ambulances to attend to those who overdose.Bellingham has changed drastically in the last few years, it is far from being the best place to live, or bring up a family. The natural beauty was once stunning, the building of more houses means less space for wildlife, sadly they are often become victims of traffic accidents. Home Invasions are at an all time high due to drug activity. In hindsight, I would not have moved here, had I known then, what I know now. The Cons have started to over-ride the Pros, that's for sure, and things are getting worse, not better!

It's also cooler in the summer and windy because of the bay. Have you actually lived in Bellingham? I lived in Bellingham for four years in the 1980s and then again 2011 to 2018.
