I was born and raised in Washington, some of the most beautiful and scenic areas in the 50 states. When I was growing up we went to Seattle all the time, visited Spokane and Tacoma and it was nothing like what you see today. Poor leadership and policies change this into what it is now and the reason we left there. Thank you for sharing the video.

Hello Joe and Nicole , I have been following your channel for some time and really enjoy your videos. I have made several car trips through the USA, visiting a total of 34 states. The last 7 trips with my wife. Unfortunately she passed away a few years ago, but the good memories of our trips remain. We always liked to drive the byways more than the highways. Greetings from my small country on the North Sea , the Netherlands .
I went to Whitworth College '73 to '78 and stayed there until I got married in '91 and moved to Sandpoint Idaho! Spokane was a great city, the Browns Edition was my favorite neighborhood for Victorian houses, most all of them divided into apartments ...
Yes, Spokane does have beautiful buildings and geography. I lived there in for about two years in the late 1990's for a job assignment. I loved it there.
I lived in CDA for 17 years & went to EWU. I was glad to get away from there due to lack of culture, jobs, education, the xenophobia, racism & religious fanaticism
It is hard to believe that the courthouse was built in 1885, just a gorgeous piece of architecture and to build it with the tools they had then is nothing short of amazing, another well produced video.
the courthouse was not built by a horse and buggy people. a people with no electricity no power tools no trucks no stores no nothing.. Go to airway heights to see how we build a court house in a town just starting out
Great video. I grew up 2 hours south of Spokane, it was always the big city to me. I was 9 when we went up to Expo '74. We also marched in a few parades in high school band, and played against a few teams in football there. My sister worked at Clinkerdagger, Bickerstaff and Petts when it opened in our home town. It has long since closed. My Father's life was extended by excellent heart surgeons there in Spokane, so I appreciate that. And I love Zip's. Thanks again for another excellent video.
The house at 1125 Bernard Street Spokane now goes for $799,900 with a $70,000 price cut on 4/28. Built in 1910, it has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms on a quarter acre lot.
3527 E. 32nd Ave was $145,000.00 when I first got there in 2010. Now, it's a 500K house. Sad, most working people couldn't afford to live there anymore. That's why the influx of homeless.
The architecture on the west coast is so different from the east coast and central parts of the country. I really like the homes out west. Great videos of the west coast, very well done guys.
That area leads the nation in so many fruits vegetables like cherries ect. People are streaming here. They found found out it's a good place to live. Sunshines over 300 days a year and lots of water.
I mean as long as you don’t mind dodging the multiple people who are camping between the trail and the river. It’s fine as long as you don’t get caught in any of the numerous riverside fires that we have every year as a result of the campers
@theprecipiceofreason actually in Spokane, the South Hill was developed by one of the original founders and he saved dedicated acreage for the common good up there, now park of Manito Park, a conservatory, and a formal garden for exercise. It used to have a zoo at one point too I believe. Lots of mansions with Sears Craftsman kits and then mixed with war boxes from the 40-50's. The larger neighbourhood is amazing for all the different housing styles and what wonderful shape they are still in. Unlike soggier climates in Western WA.
I live in Spokane, and you did a pretty good job of describing Riverfront Park. The cable cars take you down to the falls you see in your opening shots, and back. It takes about twenty minutes. The pavilion you said where you can “small concerts” is the Expo ‘74 Pavilion. I once saw a performance by the Spokane Symphony there. During the holidays it’s lit up with Christmas lights and puts on quite a show.
That is $285,000.00 cheaper than the house across the street from my home. By no stretch of the imagination is that house worth $1,084,000.00 in Eastern Ventura County, Ca.
Yeah. I laughed when he said over a million. They can't sell it. Price has dropped by 64,000 dollars. That area is pretty but you get affluent and mentally ill in one group. The south hill isn't the best place to live.
I was born and raised in Spokane in the 50's. I live in Arizona now because it's drier and warmer than Spokane but I still manage to visit every so often.
@@adrianelias2365 Washington state is in a drought level 2 right now. This is caused by the low snow pack that has been decreasing every year. I remember we used to have snow 3 feet deep in Spokane. Winter of '68 we had 6 feet of snow. There's water issues everywhere.
I know people love to remember things through rose-tinted glasses, but I'm old enough to remember Spokane as a bit worn down ag town. So to me, it looks pretty good. As for homeless: I assume a large contributor is being on a major interstate, I-90. I know along I-40, Albuquerque and Amarillo, places with extremely low cost of living, still have far more homeless than you'd imagine.
Lived in Spokane for 4 years nearly 50 years ago. It was beautiful and so clean. I still remember the tram rides over the river and loved the restaurants hanging over the waterfall. Excellent parks, great places to explore. Many little lakes to fish and camp. Cold snowy winters.
FANTASTIC trip U2 !!!! LOVE the architecture of Spokane !!! beautiful !! You never need to worry about the camera work/or sun- as you are the very best operator I,ve seen👍 !! Spokane looks like a good place to be to me and that food- WOW. Thanks guys !!! Looking forward to Montana- have a safe trip. Cheers from Sth Australia.
What I like about your videos is that if I wanted I'll jump in the 🚗 and go but I don't have to Thanks to Joe and Nic, love you both for sharing your trips with us 😉💙. Stay safe and enjoy!😊
Cool video. I didn’t have time to see Spokane when I was up in WA about 10 years ago. It’s the town where one of my favorite movies was filmed, Vision Quest. I remember those bridges/river from the movie.
When i began studying english, i used to get an USA map and try to research each and every city, mountains, rivers, etc. Now, you get me travelling all over USA, and having pretty cool informations about cities, income, security, climate, etc. In addition to all informations, i practice my english by listenning The two of you ! Thanks for the wonderful vídeos!
Ahhh! I’ve been following your channel for so long and was wondering when you would come through Spokane! I live right near that S. Bernard st. and I’m so glad you were able to see our gorgeous historical homes! Should have taken a drive on High Drive!
I was thinking about how all these people from different countries in Europe came here with amazing skills. Those skills built these beautiful buildings. I would imagine it would be hard to find anyone capable of having such outstanding skills today. I worked with an older gentleman from Germany. His skill was plaster. When I met him, he worked in a kitchen. My dad had a 1st cousin who moved to Washington from the south. When he visited, he took him Salmon fishing. He also showed Dad a bear that had been skinned handing in an outbuilding. Dad said that the bear looked like a man when naked. Dad came home so excited. Thanks, Jim and Nic. Another great video.
The Air looks so clean & fresh there. It is really a beautiful City! That house on Bernard St would be a cool million in California. But in Spokane Washington it only $799,900!!! Five Bedrooms, 3 Baths, upgraded Kitchen, beautiful Backyard, that's a deal! Oh Joe & Nic, I thought you 2 would be venturing onto British Columbia Canada.
We'll be heading into Canada early next year. We're finishing up all the state capitals, then we'll begin international travels. Canada will be first. :)
Howdy from Billings Montana...Great Stuff...I lived in Olympia and played music and booked out of Seattle all over the NW back in the late 70s and the same around the CoeurDeLene ID and booking out of the Spokane WA area in the early 80s...Great Vids Guys...Awesome!!!!
@@hotpinkbear31 No, I bounce between Portland and Spokane (relatives to visit) and Spokane is definitely the cleaner, safer, lower-crime one of the two.
I loved my time in Spokane in '90-'94 when I was stationed at Fairchild AFB just west of town. It's unfortunate you missed Manito Park south of town, and some of the upscale old neighborhoods. Spokane seems to have always had the weird (to me) situation of having neighborhoods and crime transition abruptly, sometimes in only just one block. You can be in the upscale old-money Browne's Addition and then in only a short distance, you're in an undesirable spot. It's terrible how high crime has risen in the decades since I lived there.
27:12 hey Joe, moments like this are what makes your videos lovely and more enjoyable. Keep up the good work, and safe travels. It was also nice to see that you let Nicole introduce one of the food!
So fun to watch them visit all my home town spots---grew up going to St. John's Cathedral, had HS Prom at the Masonic Temple, attended school mass at Our Lady of Lourdes and rode my bike through the streets of the South Hill my entire childhood. Clinkerdagger was always a special occasion treat, as was brunch at the Davenport Hotel. Thanks for the great walk down memory lane!
Yeah it’s pretty cool actually to have a kind of almost desert in the middle of our state sandwiched between a bunch of mountains and forest wilderness
Spokane is a beautiful city. Glad you highlighted the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Beautiful church inside and out. Have worshipped there several times.
Thankyou for doing our town! I enjoyed it. "Near Nature, Near Perfect" was the slogan when we moved here 15 years ago. It might not be perfect but there are far worse, elsewhere. Home prices did finally skyrocket. That home on Bernard was going for $799k last time I looked, but it would've only been well under 500k when we first moved here. Would've been great to run into you two, we only live a few blocks north of Clinkerdagger. North Central neighborhood. It's true, West Central is considered the "bad neighborhood" but it is great for what it is, and I grew up in the bay area. In Alameda, just west of Oakland. It's that pretty nice bedroom community, an island in the bay, though....
Fantastic video. Really collects the full scope of Spokane. As far as great tasting tarter sauce, a regional restaurant favorite is a place called Zip's. Their tarter's motto is, "With tarter sauce so good, it should be sold as a beverage". It really should be too. Thanks again with such an informative video.
Thank you for the video. I realize that you two were just passing through and you could only shoot so much. I grew up in Spokane ’61-63 and again ’70- ’14 when I moved to Austin TX. for work. FYI ..LoL City Hall was the old Montgomery Ward’s store. The County courthouse is so awesome (I have a print on my wall at the house). Clinkerdagger’s is a fabulous restaurant, kind of on the high end. It was that special place to go if you have great grades or it was your birthday. I hope you got a chance to walk around in the Flour Mill and look at all the shops. I gather that you didn’t get to stop by “Dick’s Hamburgers” for a “Whammy” I’ll follow along you trip now that I found it.
My son is moving to Seattle and I told him to make sure to check for the best area to live even if it costs more. He is renting a long-term hotel and storage for one month to have time to look around. I just can't pay the prices for eating out nowadays it's gotten too crazy. Glad I'll be able to cook in my RV Van. Have fun and good luck on your road trip.
I moved from south Florida up to here. One thing I would say is that if you're used to a sunny place then it might be a little much at first. The scenery makes up for it and nothing beats Seattle on a clear day. When Mt Rainier is just towering over the views
Good luck in the apartment search. Rent is sky high, and crime is up. Never leave anything in the car. Crime is just as high in good neighborhoods because the criminals find it to be good hunting grounds. Friendliest place is the Quarterdeck in the Des Moines marina. Coffee, beer, wine. Great walk along the pier. People bring their dogs and kids , lots of outdoor seating, a big heated tent in bad weather. Live music, trivia nights. It’s sort of like Cheers- everyone knows your name and your dog’s name. Seattle is famous for the Seattle Freeze but the Quarterdeck is the exception.
Clinkerdagger's!!! When I was at Whitworth College in the '70's it was THE place to take a date for dinner!! I spent 18 years in Spokane and have great memories!! I worked for B. Dalton Bookseller downtown, designed the logo for Auntie's Bookstore (and later Uncle's Games) and Merlyn's Comics and Games ... the best restaurant was The Espresso Deliscioso on Monroe just north of the Monroe Street Bridge!
Your videos have become a real highlight of my week. Thanks again for sharing your travels and showing what a beautiful country America is. Really motivating me and the wife to visit.
I was in Spokane last year. Walked all around the downtown and I liked it. Nice parks, old Worlds Fair stuff. Rivers, rapids. A brewery that donates all profits to the local Doggie and Kitty Humane Society. People hanging out. Nice drone views here! I didn't go anywhere else.
Don't know if it's the same place, but my grandson is going to pharmacy school near there and lives in an apartment high rise across the street from a pub/ brewery that has a humane center attached to it. Kind of cool. He got a kitten there.
I lived in Spokane for 6 years before leaving in 2022. I think for the length of time your video was you did a good job showing the city. My view of the crime rate is there is a lot of drug related petty crime, car break ins... lots of homeless but my hometown is San Diego and I think it is even worse there. I don't have a clue how to solve the homeless and drug problems but maybe spend a little more money on social programs and less on foreign wars.
Borrow $34 trillion / Blow it ALL up = what? a) Peace and Prosperity b) Crash and Burn c) Jesus Returns d) All the Above e) None of THEE above hint: borrow + bomb = a false profit. But if one divides by zero, the answer is erroneous.
There aren’t lots of homeless compared to other similar cities. Crime is down here rn. It’s really a fairly quiet smaller city. People are just scared and misinformed
@@jormaknowles5270for the size of spokane and the amount of junkies in the streets… crime isnt down at all. Spokane junkies aren’t just downtown… they are spread all through the city and the new mayor aims to make it worse.
My husband is from Spokane originally and we still have family in the area. Unfortunately the homelessness has been a problem for a long long time especially in the downtown area.
The area around Spokane is gorgeous and we have a house about an hour outside of there. In the last five years the housing cost has gotten very expensive.

Born ‘53 & Raised in Spokane. Left in 1983. Fond memories, oldest first: Nat Park, Captain Cy, Starlit Stairway, Chiller Theatre, Friday night football at Joe Albi Stadium, Dicks & Zips Burgers, cruising the gut, sparking at Cliff Drive, keggers at 9 mile, West End Dive In (2 bucks a car load), State Line Idaho (El Patio, Gardens, Kon Tiki) and finally hours watching planes land at Geiger Field (GEG) which ultimately led to an aviation career. I will always love Spokane.
Absolutely wonderful Vlog. What a beautiful Town! I was disappointed in the crime rate…. But, Oh well. Thank you so much for showing us all the fine things Joey. 😊
I’m a passenger with you on your trips. I lost my hands and feet in a horrific accident in 2017 at 36. I can’t obviously go much so thanks for taking us along. ❤
Lived in the Pac NW for a number of years, now down in CO. Spokane is in a super cool part of the state as far as recreational and the fact that it's the sunny side of the state.
Enjoyed this video a lot, not many videos on youtube about my hometown like this. I was born and raised here, been here 18 years. Housing has definitely got ridiculous when it comes to pricing. crime has most definitely gotten worse, lots of gun violence and killings and whatnot. Tons of open drug use EVERYWHERE, cops dont do anything because they decriminalized everything, so that sucks. But i love it here, and it will be hard to leave if i ever choose to. From what ive heard and seen over the years, when you move from spokane, you normally gravitate back.
Born in Spokane back in 66. Lived there until 1988 when I joined the Air Force. Lived near and went to North Central high school. The area was a bit rough back then but no homeless or drug addicts hanging around at least back then. I go back every few years to visit a friend but man has Spokane turned into a cesspool. You use to run into a few homeless downtown under the freeway overpass by Dicks drive in but now the homeless and drug addicts can be found on what seems to be every street in Spokane. I mean they are absolutely EVERYWHERE. I’ve considered moving back there but when I do come back just to visit I am more and more convinced to stay away. It’s a real shame. Use to be a pretty good place.
Well I live here all my life and I’m 56 I do agree with some of what you are saying but it’s not all true either i’m not gonna get into details over either or arguing about it, but all I’m saying is a lot of what you and some are saying is a little on the BS One it doesn’t matter where are you go you’ll find the same stuff. It no different then any other city and I been around quite a few it’s a lot better than Seattle for sure i think Washington state alone needs to change overall
@@Darkstar301 I live here and he's slightly exaggerating, but the homeless pockets are all over the city. There are many places that don't have these kind of problems. We are steered by the Western half of the state and they are far left. Of course it's not as bad as Seattle, they are a port city with a much larger population. It's always been proportionately worse. Our city council is consistently leftist and their policies have allowed these things to fester for years now. Scumbags come here to get the benefits and to get away with victimizing the community.
They have the largest. Run in May called bloomsday run . It takes place the st Sunday of May. People come from around the world. To participate in the bloomsday run. Thank for visiting our city.
What a shame about the crime there!! I lived in Spokane in the 80's. I'm surprised tho that you didn't film the SkyWalks downtown. I worked down there and would go thru the Skywalk to lunch often.
One thing I've learned about Canadian geese: never open an umbrella while standing directly next to one that's already hissing at you. I almost got attacked by one - not even lying, this thing kept flying at my head and circled around me like a vulture. Not a fun time, but at least I didn't need to go to the ER with goose-related injuries 😅🤣
I lived in Spokane twice (late '70s and late '80s) and loved it there. Retired from the service and the jobs just were available. That and I grew tired of winters. Lived near Post and Wellsley.
I lived in Spokane for a couple of years, I had a blast! That’s not to say I didn’t see some weird stuff. Definitely try Durkins Liquor Bar when you’re there again! It’s a small restaurant with a secret bar in the basement!
Born and raised 60 minutes from Spokane. The city proper has turned into a boil on the butt of humanity, mostly due to (like most cities in similar situations) mismanagement from the highest offices of the land. The Valley and many suburbs are still great and a few (the South Hill) is absolutely gorgeous full of local history and well maintained old houses. As I get older, the downtown is a place I try to avoid whenever possible. The Davenport Hotel (the original) is amazing, with wonderful history that they’ve done a great job to keep alive!
Clinkerdaggers used to be Clinkerdagger, Bickerstaff and Petts. They usdd to have multiple locations in the Northwest and the first time I ate in one was in Anchorage. I believe Spokane is the only one left. Overpriced but they pack ‘em in. Food is outstanding. Spokane is a fascinating area. Too bad you’re zooming around so fast. To the southwest is The Palouse -very interesting and scenic terrain. East and northeast are Lake Coeur d’ Alene Lake Pend Oreille-both spectacular.
Not a huge fan of politics in this state but i love the natural beauty that surrounds me. I live in Spokane Valley and often drives hours any direction to experience the beauty of this area.
Expo ‘74- A worlds fair held from May- Nov 74. I was stationed at nearby Fairchild AFB 2 times- 82-84 and 88-91. The first time, downtown Spokane was a great place to visit. Excellent restaurants, shopping (with covered walkways built on the second story, connecting buildings making a “shopping mall” out of many blocks of the city). Riverfront Park was a fun and safe place to visit even after dark. I even played a game of pool with Will Samson (Native American actor, “One flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “the Outlaw Josey Wales”) who was in town for a PowWow. Left for England and Germany and when I returned in 88 the whole town had changed. Crime had skyrocketed, Skinheads and Aryan Nation members had moved in. The whole “vibe” of the area had changed. Sounds like it’s getting better, after all, my time there was almost 40 years ago………Cheers and safe travels

The architecture on the west coast is so different from the east coast and central parts of the country. I really like the homes out west.
Great videos of the west coast, very well done guys.
I totally agree!
That's so funny - I live in Spokane, but my favorite residential architecture is Cape Cod style. 😆
The middle of Washington state is fertile volcanic farmland and puts.out amazing fruit, wheat etc.
That's true. Not sure why the comment is posted for a piece done on Spokane, though.

Spectacular bIke trail along the Spokane river, about 40 miles of cycling bliss.
I mean as long as you don’t mind dodging the multiple people who are camping between the trail and the river. It’s fine as long as you don’t get caught in any of the numerous riverside fires that we have every year as a result of the campers
Opulent is a great description of You and Nic's videos! Thanks Joe
You missed one of the oldest residential parts of Spokane, the South Hill. Many beautiful old homes.
Did they bother going to Browne's Addition, or Pleasant Valley? If they didn't go to the South Hill, they certainly didn't.
First neighborhood was Brown’s Addition.
and the Fort
Snob hill. Every town has an upperclass neighborhood. That's nothin special.
The Bernard street house is going for $799,900 on Zillow.
my guess was seven and a quarter.out of my price range
That's $799,899 more than I'd pay for it.
That is $285,000.00 cheaper than the house across the street from my home. By no stretch of the imagination is that house worth $1,084,000.00 in Eastern Ventura County, Ca.
Built in 1910!

You must be pretty old because Spokane (47 yrs old) hasn't been an, "ag town" in my lifetime.
Lots of drugs
There’s lots of building going on. Tons of homes and apartments being built on the north end by US 395.
Lived in Spokane for 4 years nearly 50 years ago. It was beautiful and so clean. I still remember the tram rides over the river and loved the restaurants hanging over the waterfall. Excellent parks, great places to explore. Many little lakes to fish and camp. Cold snowy winters.

I truly hope you guys made it into Wallace, Idaho. I have a feeling Nic would love it. Beautiful old buildings, and some really, really cool history.

Thanks for the great walk down memory lane!
it's funny that people when they think of Washington, they think it's forest and rainy not knowing that just over 1/3 of Washington looks like 0:21
Yeah it’s pretty cool actually to have a kind of almost desert in the middle of our state sandwiched between a bunch of mountains and forest wilderness
Spokane is a beautiful city. Glad you highlighted the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Beautiful church inside and out. Have worshipped there several times.
Wish he’d mentioned it was an Episcopal cathedral

Despite all our issues here in Spokane, you made our city look pretty good. Wondering if you stayed at the Davenport Hotel?
