As someone who has been dealing with ADHD my whole life, I totally identify with these behaviors and symptoms. I loved Robin before but this season endears me to her even more.
I liked her more in the previous season, and actually never picked up on the ADHD, I guess because the way she deals with it is the opposite to me. She talks when feeling anxious and I just clam up instead, because when I do start talking unfiltered I always annoy/offend people. I did fully relate to the itchy clothes though.
thats great. just put a sticker on each person face. "ADHD person 00002" . Its nothing to do with genetics, experiences, and life itself. Its a Diagnose everyone has, of course that's how it is!
It's sweet for Robin, but also can be a trauma response for some people. If people quit hanging out with you because "you're annoying," you start panic checking that you're not pushing people away constantly. Like I've had to stop doing it so much and just pre warn people when I meet them that if I ever cross a line accidentally, particularly when I'm rambling, to tell me right then and there.
I adore Robin, she is TOTALLY the type of person that I was back in school. The nervous rambling is the first likely sign of having ADHD, and thank you for your brilliant analysis, Georgia.
Robin fixating on how uncomfortable her clothes were was something I can totally relate to. When something actually grabs the attention of a person w/ADHD it is damn near impossible to stop paying attention to it even when we realize we have more important things to worry about.
THIS so MUCH! I've always disliked clothing shopping and trying on stuff my mom picked out and not liking the majority of it because would hyper fixate on how it felt against my skin! It finally makes sense since I'm an adult now! I wonder how people can wear certain things in professional fields (like high heels, etc).
Very much so. It also speaks to hypersensitivity. I am SUPER focused on the fabric of clothes. If something feels uncomfortable, I notice it to the point off pain and if it continues too long, I have to rip it off. I'll buy comfortable fabric over fashionable look/cut any day, as it's one less thing to be hyperfocused about during my day🙈
The reason I couldn’t do wool or turtle necks. I remember I once got a wool skirt that I begged for mind you 🤦♀️ wore it to school and had to have my mom come get me, mid way through the day. I was in a full break down over this skirt on my skin. 😅 The turtle necks, I always said it’s choking me I can’t breathe. Like to the point of almost passing out.
I can usually mute out almost any fabric (except wool, specially knitted ones) but whenever a jacket or a long sleeved uniform has cuffs, I CANNOT not be made aware of it. Especially when I walk, it just wrings very lightly on my wrists but christ my mind would always be thinking of how weird the cuffs rub on my skin. I haven't even worn any turtle necks, and I'm very sure I won't like it one bit.
This is the first time I have ever heard an actual psychologist describe the Pros of ADHD and not just the cons. After awhile of hearing nothing but how ADHD makes you "impulsive, loud, hyperactive, and spacey." It's nice to hear someone say "Because her mind is racing faster than most she was able to catch the professor off guard" feels unexpected yet comforting. It reminds me of the PJO series where ADHD translates to sharp reflexes and battle instincts. You know, something that actually makes people feel good about their adhd instead of feeling like a burden.
I just wanna say: I've been so obsessed with the fact that Robin is still presented as one of the smartest people in the show even tho she doesn't seem to think conventionally and that i really relate to her?? While also questioning wether I have ADHD for like months 😭✋
If you're seriously questioning if you have ADHD, I'd suggest looking for more resources like the channel How To ADHD and considering, if possible, seeking a diagnosis.
It is funny cause I have ADHD, and as I watched the show, I identified a lot with Robin (not just because I'm queer), and I started to notice some signs that she might have it too.
I am ace and autistic but share a lot of traits with Robin. So I guess I share a lot of traits with you too. I feel like ADHD is like autism's cousin. My best friend has ADHD and we both hyperfixate on our fave shows together and it's great fun. I also have read that both people with ADHD and autism are more likely to be queer too...which I find fascinating.
@@kpaxian6044 I have ADHD, but wasn't diagnosed until I was 25. My best friend from school is autistic, but she didn't know back then either. She was the only person who would let me ramble on and on about whatever I was obsessed with. In fact, at the beginning of each school year she'd ask me, "so what's the new obsession you found over summer?" We had this kind of silent deal, where we could both obsess over whatever to one another, even if we weren't particularly interested in it ourselves.
One other ADHD characteristic I noticed during the videos are some signs of RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria), where she's working really hard to not give the wrong impression to Nancy and, in some sense, the professor. I definitely see a lot of those behaviours in myself when I'm trying to smooth over misunderstandings because I'm worried someone doesn't like me, or is judging me. Paradoxically, it can be a big source of dislike and judgement, but that's the ADHD RSD cycle! Thanks for touching on ADHD, and Robin, who's a fantastic character, ADHD, or not (but I definitely headcannon it after this analysis)!
I do this too. Nice to know I'm not alone. I only just found out about RSD recently and honestly it explains so damn much. I'm autistic though but I do genuinely believe I have ADD as well.
Like I'll do what you do try to fix it and talk too much, then put myself down in my head for doing so. Like I'm annoying them or they took it the wrong way etc
Georgia cosplaying as Robin in the borrowed clothes? Great! Regarding the question at the end, I loved how Robin explored Nancy' room, I have the feeling that with her having seen Nancy's music she might be the one that will save Nancy in the next few episodes coming month.
As someone who has both Autism and ADHD I feel like Robin could possibly be autistic or have both as well? The clothing thing really seems to be a sensory issue and the way she speaks her mind regardless of social cues is something I see way more in people with Autism or combined Autism/ADHD than just ADHD alone. It's also very common for people with Autism to be misdiagnosed with ADHD or just be perceived as having "extreme ADHD" (that was me too). However, I might still just be projecting because I relate to Robin so much she was instantly a favorite of mine for this season.
I’ve seen QUITE a few people hating on how “less cool” she’s gotten since season 3 but think about it this way, in season 3 it was less about how cool she was and more of how smart she was, AND she hadn’t really had any NORMAL scenes in season 3 with any of the main characters at that point because she was trapped in the underground Russian lab (idk what to call it) for as what Erica said was 24 hours and even in the bit where she was with most of the main characters when Jane was going through you know what she was fidgeting QUITE A LOT.
THIS!!! and she actually does a lot this season for hawkins team and in s3 shes was just with steve and dustin in s4 shes starting to being comfortable with others characters
I frel like her character has changed a lot, though. Maybe I've just forgotten what she was like jn s3 as I've not seen it for 2+ years, but it felt to me like these were all new elements to her character and whilst I LOVED having the Adhd traits on screen, it felt to me like Robins character had completely changed so I felt kinda detached from her yk? Idkk though and this is just how I personally feel, plus I could be forgetting things. I do 100% agree with your point though- in s3 we only saw her in the scoops troops and now she does more, and was the reason max got saved. I've also loved seeing her smartness in both seasons- I'm glad they kept that the same
I noticed that change too. But one of my interpretations about it is that she feels insecure and knows she's specially akward and "weird" in her way, so being sarcastic and smartass could be her mask/persona she uses among people that she doesn't know/don't have attachment. On the final of Season 3 (bathroom scene) her giggling having to addmit she peed on her pants and coming out infront of Steve is like the moment we can see her starting to being comfortable around him. Idk If i'm right but makes sense at least.
@@mih568 Yeah, Robin was always like this, but she was just very reserved and introverted. Now that she's opening up, she's the same except higher energy.
Lol my brain only got as far as “that looks incredibly uncomfortable…” before reverting to my ears. 😅 Now I’m remembering the more casual hellfire shirts from other videos.
One of the things I discovered about my own ADHD was that when I added dopamine into my system, I didn't have the anxiety spirals and problem solving brain vomit nearly as bad. The dopamine was the trigger to turn off my "check engine light". And I really see that in Robin being unable to stop talking to Nancy. She's worried she's not getting along, and her brain is trying to soothe itself by finding a solution. But it's not coming, so she keeps trying to talk and explain, trying to solve the problem and turn the warning light off.
@Malow Castillo if you have ADHD there are prescription medications that help your brain produce or retain more dopamine (and norepinephrine) to bring it to normal levels. It's something you need to do with a Doctor.
I just started medication a month ago and it's done nothing except make me tired and more emotional, which is surprising because I'm a crier anyway so woo...
I've described my adhd med as having more of an anti-anxiety affect as the most noticeable affect. I was finally able to be myself again around my friends instead of a mess of anxiety hiding everything.
I was so excited when I saw this video! I’m autistic and I actually found that her symptoms seemed more of that nature, what with the stimming and sensory overload she seemed to exhibit, but I can also see how it could be seen as ADHD instead. Either way she’s definitely neurodivergent and I’m glad other people noticed :)
She may also be on the spectrum as well : ) but I think she has an advanced ability to read people when she is paying attention would not be as advanced.
@@GeorgiaDow Alot of autistic people have the ability to read people when they focus really hard, especially afab autistic people who were socialized to mask more, you learn to have to over anaylse / read people to cope, she is most likely comorbid ADHD + Autistic, but she definitely exhibits so many autistic traits, she even makes jokes about how she had delayed development, poor coordination, and an inability to read social cues, as well as stimming
@@GeorgiaDow I find that as an autistic person I’ve trained myself to be able to read people if I’m focusing on it, I can’t do it passively but if I’m actively trying I can
I am autistic and I read people as my way to cope with lack of empathy. I constantly read them to understand what they feel how they do so and where they come from
As someone with both adhd and autism, I really don't think before I say things and just blurt things out a lot. A lot of people get annoyed because of that.
Yeah but for me I either just don’t think and say things or I overthink every single little thing I’m doing and I kinda say nothing because of the overthinking idk.
I wonder what’s gonna happen to Robin once the term ADHD becomes therapeutic lexicon….will she undergo treatment? Take Ritalin? What if she doesn’t want treatment or Ritalin?
Idk if the goal was autism or ADHD, but as someone with ADHD I completely identified with Robin as a character and it was so refreshing to see a real character with ADHD. Not just a caricature like we normally see in media. There’s so many nuances to it, but the best part is that they also included the biggest thing about ADHD which is that we are so intelligent, but occasionally incapable of reaching the level of intelligence we have because of how inside our heads we get. Just love her so freaking much. Edit: when I said that I didn’t know what the goal was, I was referring to Robin’s personality as created by the Duffer Bro’s. Some theorised that she’s autistic, some that she’s ADHD. Personally, I find myself relating very heavily with the autistic spectrum, but I am officially diagnosed as ADHD.
@@Masterful I agree. It’s easy to notice she has ADHD, but the ADHD overshadows the ASD, and that’s super common in women that have both. Of course it occurs with men too, but more likely to occur with women. Also, I’m guessing a lot of people may disregard the ASD possibility because of how well Robin was able to manipulate the situation with the psychologist guy, but this is something I can I can do as well in specific situations. Because masking requires observation, planning, acting, and critical thinking skills, it can definitely result in this type of socially manipulative behavior, especially if there is ADHD helping emphasize the importance of the end goal. Also maybe Robin is actually really interested in psychology; she seems to be from what I observed. Having an interest in why people do what they do certainly helps develop the skill of masking, even if your ADHD tends to take over and you still miss social cues (me lol). But yea, the process Robin used to get that social success, is very similar to how I did so well at my last job interview and got my job. Even if you seem a bit “off” knowing a good bit about how minds work and what they respond to, definitely works in your favor. Works best when there is a prompt though. Which is why I cannot just “strike up” a “casual” conversation with just anybody; I still haven’t been able to figure that one out lol. Of course, if our minds work similarly, it’s a lot easier, it just won’t be “casual.”
@@Masterful as someone with both, is there a way of differentiating between the two? I've been diagnosed with ADHD and there's no doubt I have it, but I also identify with lots of things that are supposedly autism, but could be both because they're similar...? Basically, I can't get my head around the differences and I'm wondering if I should try and pursue a second diagnosis for autism ad well?
@@amelieg246 while symptoms overlap, the main component about Autism is the social factor and obsessive nature. Meanwhile, the main component with ADHD is the inability to focus and hyperactivity. They do, however, have a correlation, as 5% of people with ADHD have autism, where the average statistic of the general public having autism is closer to 2.5%.
I like how when Robin explained how people sometimes get annoyed/offended by her rambling and Nancy just accepts her. She tells Nancy that she doesn't mean to offend her, and Nancy, although visibly annoyed, accepted Robin as she is. That is a key factor to forming a good friendship, in my book. Someone who accepts everything about your neurodivergence, including the way you express yourself is so important. It was a heartwarming scene for my ADHD heart. And yes, I do think Nancy is learning to appreciate Robin more, since she was still annoyed despite not saying anything. I like seeing how their bond is strengthening throughout the episodes. They each appreciate each other more as they recognize how they each uniquely contribute to the group and how their neurodivergent and neurotypical tendencies play an important role in saving the world.
I think theres a lot of little nods to neurodivergence here. I also have adhd and yes, the sensory issues with textures and fabrics are are bigger thing but also I really noticed how they chose to show her rolling her ankles in nancys shoes. Because that may be a lesser known trait. Neurodivergence (both adhd and asd) are very commonly associated with hypermobility as a comorbidity. And i have very hypermobile ankles, I roll them in flat shoes all the time. Its not just that theyre not her shoes and shes not used to them, shes rolling her ankles like someone with hypermobility would. And the pick up on her 'running funny' which is definitely also linked to this but potentially also dyspraxia, another typical comorbidity with adhd and asd. I loved that they put little touches in like this, it made me connect so much with her as a character.
I think what is especially amazing about Robin's monologue is that through it she got the Professor to identify with her and her passions and put himself in her place and that made him NEED to give her what she is asking for. I very much identify with Robin's thinking process, the different between us is that I've got nearly 20 more years of experience of coping skills and practice directing and controlling all the excess energy that is trying to run rampant in my brain. :-D Bless her direct little heart and the actress Maya Hawke who amazingly played her. :-)
Cool analysis! Definitely see some ADHD Rejection Sensistivity in Robin as well. It's important that Robin mostly shows the Hyperactive-Compulsive part of ADHD, not as much the Inattentive type. ADHD people can also be calm "spacey" types lost in their thoughts, and other types less commonly shown in media. Also women are more likely to "mask" ADHD behavior (unlike Robin) due to societal pressure.
Thank you for mentioning the Inattentive type. I grew up with ADD, and since that's being a sub-type of ADHD, it often feels like its being overlooked even more nowadays.
Yup, thats me! I’m very calm and daydream a lot. Was diagnosed at 27 with the inattentive type, wish this info had been mainstream so i could have been diagnosed earlier.
my dear partner has ADHD, I kinda used to it, but sometimes she really talkes non-stop for hours XD now I realised why I like Robin so much, because she reminds me of my the one and only
I've also found her to share quite a few traits of people on the autism spectrum, like myself! then again, autism and adhd are often two sides of the same coin
I'm also neurodivergent (autism and ADHD) and Robin is like looking back at myself in high school. I don't know if she was intentionally coded as autistic but she DEFINITELY has MANY of the traits associated with autistics who are AFAB and socialized female.
I watch Stranger Things with my dad. It's our thing. When Robin went on her rant about talking too much, but being self aware, my dad just looked at me. No words needed to be said. We both just laughed! I still don't understand how spot on Robin is to my own experiences.
The first scene of Robin this season being her still applying makeup while running late was very relatable. My siblings and I were always running late cause brain is so bad at prioritization.
Maya hawke explained on jimmy Fallon that she rambles on and speaks really fast and is very anxious when dealing with something new, the duffer brother decided to give her more lines and told her to just be herself, so the robin we see now is actually maya hawke allowed to be herself
(Commenting out of enthusiasm before watching, but will watch): I got more autism than ADHD from the character, at least in terms of "this is what I think the creators were encoding in her writing when I analyze the text", but I'm both so I suppose I'm biased in a blendy way haha. In any case, I'm thrilled with Robin as representation of neurospicy people of all flavors, and I'm stoked to see so much discourse springing up as a result of her popularity.
I, too, struggle with certain fabrics (tight, itchy collar etc). I, too, talk with my hands a lot. I, too, have ADHD. I'm so glad how spot on they were with it when writing her.
As someone with adhd and autism, I clocked this on Robin. Especially when she said she couldn't pick up on social cues and the sensory issues with the clothes. Not sure if she is also on the spectrum but they certainly dropped a couple hints
As someone who has ADHD, After seeing season 4, I thought Robin has ADHD.. But before season 4, I was saying Steve has it.. some of the pointers is when he suddenly stop by the horse, he dosen't tell Robin and Dustin to stop, he just stops.. which i do when walk and something catch my eye. when he forgot to bring the flashlight in season 4. Dustin points out he shouldn't need reminding. in season 2 when Nancy gose over his paper, he can't see why it's bad. There's more, but only listing the main few pointers. therefore they both have it. That's why they end up getting along. Also, I hate it when people complain about Robin this season, some of the things they say deal with how she acting and it's almost like a personal attack because I'm like the thing they are complaining about all my friends have some sort of neurological disorder. we get along because we get what it's like to be different
robin was on point. her antics, her character... i was diagnosed with adhd at the age of 14 and beside the monsterfighting thing, i was pretty much like she was. a mind dancing with chaos. yes, sometimes its hard for my friends to keep up with the antics. especially with that non existing filter you say sometimes harsh thinks that you dont wanna say or you dont mean. but i it also makes an adhd person very honest.
I relate to Robin so much, with EVERY LITTLE THING SHE DOES. She talks too much like me, can't control what she says, feel like she talks fast, we both have shitty sense of coordination, have the same sarcasm, always anxious, do stuff at the last minute because im shit at prioritizing and do stuff, how she and I always try to make good impression and stressing over it...Her personality, her sarcasm, how she is always kinda nervous, how she feels, she's gay and I am, we both feel the EXACT SAME way with EVERYTHING every single thing she said in the show, even how she can't walk straight and more....Literally EVERYTHING she says or do is me. Its the first time I relate to a character SO much and I love her so so much. But now, learning that she mighr have ADHD, its not really the best thing ever to relate SO MUCH to her and I dont know if I should be concerned
My 6 year old was diagnosed with ADHD. He is a 6 year old Robin, however he is super smart and observant, and will repeat things back that I said months ago.
I got diagnosed with ADHD late and I relate to a lot of her behaviors and thought patterns. What many people don't realize is that many people with ADHD are great problem solvers. Robin is one of those people and I absolutely love it!
As someone who has both autism and ADHD, I can relate so much to Robin. It made me so happy to see my form of self-expression be portrayed correctly on screen. Not played off as a joke or as pitiful, but just... existing.
Robin’s monologue is so good. After she finished the monologue I was like I went to add that to my acting book as a monologue to use during auditions. Same with so many other monologues this season. Max’s abt Billy was such a great one as well. El’s abt Hopper. Also Hopper’s abt his first kid
You highlighting the strengths of adhd while also explaining the drawbacks in a way that makes it clear that they aren’t something we MEAN to do was so nice to hear. Loved this!!
I was actually getting some vibes of Robin having minor ASD comorbid with ADHD as they can often be together and Robin was struggling a bit to pick up on the social ques, as she even says she does. Its not just the social ques though, she has several ASD traits that I relate to (unofficially diagnosed myself) that really points me to feel she is not just ADHD, she's got that mild ASD as well.
Idk about that. Although ASD is more known for not seeing social cues, ADHD ppl miss social cues too but for a different underlying reason. There's so much going on in our brains and we can't direct our attention easily so we miss that information. But if we had all the information we'd understand
When I watched these scenes, I could not stop smiling because it is so relatable. She is so alike how I am. Saying whatever is on our minds before thinking, talking faster than we can think, not able to stop ourselves.
Season 3 I didn’t really know that much (cuz she was a new character), but as soon as I saw her this season I instantly felt more attached. All the stuff she says and her actions, she’s pretty much how I am now. So relatable and comforting to see!
I have undiagnosed ADHD and even my boyfriend says "oh, you're so much like robin" and as a child, because I always wanted to say what comes to my head, people got really annoyed. So I couldn't keep secrets very well. Even rn I'm doing it again... eventhough noone asked
I annoy the hell out of my husband but then when I go quiet he’s like “what’s wrong?!” I’m like I can’t win 🤦🏽♀️ I don’t know how to be “normal” so I started medication but I don’t like it, I’m only doing it for him.
Another ADHD thing I noticed during Robin's speach is when she's talking about how passionate she is, she's not lying, but rather telling a white lie. As someone with Adhd, I find it really hard to fully lie to someone because I usually just blurt everything out the way it is. The way I go around this is to usually say how I feel but I'll put it in a different context to obscure the truth. Nancy and Robin are passionate about taking vecna down, not so much about psychology etc.
As someone diagnosed with ADHD at only 4 years, of age thank you for making this. Robin is a favorite of mine because I see many of her quirks as my own.
Georgia, I was SO waiting for the scene where your cosplay came into focus! And of course you NAILED it once again! I have had friends like this! They liked me because of my listening talents, and I was always interested in the things they had to say! And I especially looked forward to being around them when life got sluggish or full of drudgery because being with them was anything but drudgery, and would often help re-spark my own enthusiasm.
As someone with autism and ADHD, I love Robin so much. I see myself in her so completely. For me, it was a no-brainer that she's ADHD, and possibly even AuDHD like me. She became one of my favorites so quickly because I felt so SEEN and UNDERSTOOD.
She’s probably autistic as well!! It’s heavily implied as well, a lack of understanding social cues is an autistic trait, as well as her lack of coordination and her directly referencing developmental delay (she says herself she started walking months later than the other babies)
About the scene with the professior, where he has her full attention and is enthralled by her, my boyfriend and my cousin were talking about my adhd one time and about how hard it is to get an my attention, but once you have it they said it was like magic. Haveing a person with adhd hyper focused on you makes you feel like the most important person in the world, because to them in that moment you are. They described the feeling as exilerating. It definately was good to hear and made me feel better about my adhd since I cant stand that my typical lost in my head spaceyness makes people feel like I dont care about them or that im ignoring them. It made me feel like adhd was like a superpower that only those who care about us enough to put up with us get to experience.
Robin is definitely my favorite character in the whole show just because she's always been the one I related with most. The way she acts and thinks are so similar to the way I do :)
Quiet hints don't work for adhd people! Be gentle, direct and polite about it. "Hey I need some quiet for a moment while I finish this task, I'll talk to you when I am finished." I hate when people hint shit at me then get annoyed that I didn't pick up on it faster.
I know right! It's creepy how you can look it her now and see both Ethan and Uma like COMPLETELY. She is beautiful and extremely talented; I bet her parents are very proud.
I’m adhd and for some reason this is the first video I have watched about adhd that has actually helped me understand how adhd affects me, I don’t know why but everything you talked about I related to and understood. Every other video I have seen has just confused me but this actually helped me understand how adhd makes me different.
This conversation is making wonder about the intersection of ADHD and introversion. Because I definitely do not do word dumps on people. But the speed with which Robin talks is what's going on in my head.
i’ve never been properly diagnosed with anything but my entire life i’ve kinda just talked and talked until i realized i was being ignored by people to the point where i just stopped talking in general. well, i try to. i also am very bad at talking to people i don’t know very well so when i try getting into a conversation and end up talking more than anyone else i get ignored. for the past 3 years i’ve been trying to talk less and less. i always introduce myself by having a big introduction and talking a lot so i’m always seen as the annoying person. even when i comment on videos like this i just talk endlessly. i don’t know why because i never have much to say. although i thought robin was more annoying this season, i realized that i relate to her. talking until someone tells me i’m annoying them or i just realize it myself. this really made me like robin more. she was definitely my favorite character last season and is this season too.
I was thinking this the whole time !! As a fellow adhd-er I def thought the way she thought up the entire fake backstory that granted them access to seeing the prisoner was such an adhd thing
I thought Robin could also have dyspraxia. I have dyspraxia and her whole coordination issues and taking longer to walk as a baby mirrored my own experiences! ❤️ So nice to see hidden disability representation.
Thank you for the way you showcased both the strengths and weaknesses of Robin's ADHD. it's nice to be reminded that parts of myself, and loved ones, that I really love are also part of the way ADHD makes us wired.
This is so fitting because as my roommate was watching the season, she looked at me dead in the eye (with mirth) and said Robin was exactly like me, lolol.
I loved Robin before I knew she was a lesbian, and loved her even more when we learned was. Now that I know she probably might have adhd like I probably might have adhd? I adore her 💗 💕
so fun fact the creators of stranger things aka the duffer brothers while filing noticed maya would do this super fast talking thing so they decided to incorporate that into her character with the super fast talking cause Maya does it when she gets nervous and she just kinda speaks without thinking first
You've made me realize that I'm more like Robin than I initially thought. Although I'm diagnosed and my father isn't (and will never voluntarily do so), I am 99.999% sure my father has ADHD. His emotional intelligence is worse than mine, and most people. I've been told I have good emotional intelligence and people skills, but my father is the opposite. When I was getting bulliedat 10-15 years old, my dad said the biggest problem is that I care what other people think of me. My father has said over and over that my problem is that I care too much about what other people think of me. My father is the other extreme. My father is super intelligent, other people have described him as a genius, and he is so stubborn. He is not cruel, and he is not kind, but is fair and pragmatic. Funny how the same "code" can be expressed with different- idk anything about comp0uters but I think you get what I mean.
Thank you for explaining a lot of the things that I haven't understood, but have been doing for so long. Until recently, I didn't know that I had ADHD. Seeing a video like this is a real eye opener for me. Strangely enough, the things that I have the same energyas Robin does is D&D lore. I could ramble on for at least 30+ minutes about stuff my group doesn’t know or point out really good resources to new and veteran players I meet. Heck! I'm the legit lore Bard of my groups. One of my friends actually consulted me on dark elf lore since I've put I the out-of-session time to basically do a second hand culture study on the interesting and alien culture of the Udadrow (the Underdark drow) and because of reading the *Legend of Drizzt* novels. Also, I absolutely adored your *Vox Machina* videos! 💙👍
As someone who has been dealing with ADHD my whole life, I totally identify with these behaviors and symptoms. I loved Robin before but this season endears me to her even more.
Agreed, Robin is such a relatably quirky character, and I'm thankful for this analysis.
I liked her more in the previous season, and actually never picked up on the ADHD, I guess because the way she deals with it is the opposite to me. Same :)
The way Robin kept checking in on Nancy to be sure she wasn't upsetting her is so sweet😭
I know so sweet
I have Asperger's rather than ADHD but there can be similarities like this.

It's not just ADHD.... 😐
@@elfyriss6042 but it is, everything is about ADHD. People with ADHD (and me)know that it is all about ADHD. It’s not as easy to do things with ADHD.
The turtle necks, I always said it’s choking me I can’t breathe.
@@evblue5 I feel this so much!!
Thank you very much I am happy it was appreciated
Extra points for the pjo reference
except I have ADHD and I do not have fast reflexes so..... I'm just bad I guess
@@lilyblossom9438 Maybe they’d be slower without the ADHD… I’m kidding, but imagine if it worked that way 😂
I like to call it “ cross processing”.
I'm so glad they added her in the show, she's such a relatable character lol
Frr she’s my favorite character because I can really relate to her she reminds me of myself lmao
@@Isabel-sr8ep Me too.
yes lol plus steve needed a new friend
I just wanna say: I've been so obsessed with the fact that Robin is still presented as one of the smartest people in the show even tho she doesn't seem to think conventionally and that i really relate to her?? While also questioning wether I have ADHD for like months 😭✋
she is a wonderful character and she is only more endearing as the show goes on
If you're seriously questioning if you have ADHD, I'd suggest looking for more resources like the channel How To ADHD and considering, if possible, seeking a diagnosis.
It is funny cause I have ADHD, and as I watched the show, I identified a lot with Robin (not just because I'm queer), and I started to notice some signs that she might have it too.
Same Same Same
I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked on it man. And here I was worrying I was self projecting-
I am ace and autistic but share a lot of traits with Robin.
Same I have perfectionism witch is very similar
Georgia cosplaying as Robin in the borrowed clothes? Great! Regarding the question at the end, I loved how Robin explored Nancy' room, I have the feeling that with her having seen Nancy's music she might be the one that will save Nancy in the next few episodes coming month.
Thanks for noticing. And yes I think robin really does notice a lot that others may miss
your last point makes a lot of sense considering Robin played in a band
When you think about it, its robbin thay saved saved max
THIS!!! and she actually does a lot this season for hawkins team and in s3 shes was just with steve and dustin in s4 shes starting to being comfortable with others characters
I love how the psychologist is dressed like Nancy and Robin when they were posing as psychology students
I am so happy you noticed and commented on it
Lol my brain only got as far as “that looks incredibly uncomfortable…” before reverting to my ears.
Perfectly described!

As someone with both adhd and autism, I really don't think before I say things and just blurt things out a lot. A lot of people get annoyed because of that.
Yeah but for me I either just don’t think and say things or I overthink every single little thing I’m doing and I kinda say nothing because of the overthinking idk.
As an adult with ADHD, I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked up on this, and yup, very nail on the head lol. A blessing and a curse lol
It only makes her more wonderful in my eyes
I honestly thought that Robin might be autistic coded because those experience almost mirror my experience being autistic
@@grahamstrouse1165 that is true
I wonder what’s gonna happen to Robin once the term ADHD becomes therapeutic lexicon….will she undergo treatment? Take Ritalin? What if she doesn’t want treatment or Ritalin?
I was thinking that too
im autistic myself and thought she was very autistic coded as well. maybe she's adhd and autistic comorbid because that's very common.
@@grahamstrouse1165 that doesn’t mean you couldn’t have it
Idk if the goal was autism or ADHD, but as someone with ADHD I completely identified with Robin as a character and it was so refreshing to see a real character with ADHD.
As someone with both, I can very much say that she also has both.
Robin is very relatable, and I LOVE her character so much. I also have ADHD and act a lot like Robin myself. Thank you for your analysis, Georgia!
Also women are more likely to "mask" ADHD behavior (unlike Robin) due to societal pressure.
very well said yes that is definitely also a feature
Thank you for mentioning the Inattentive type. I grew up with ADD, and since that's being a sub-type of ADHD, it often feels like its being overlooked even more nowadays.
Yup, thats me! I’m very calm and daydream a lot. Was diagnosed at 27 with the inattentive type, wish this info had been mainstream so i could have been diagnosed earlier.
my dear partner has ADHD, I kinda used to it, but sometimes she really talkes non-stop for hours XD
now I realised why I like Robin so much, because she reminds me of my the one and only
I've also found her to share quite a few traits of people on the autism spectrum, like myself! then again, autism and adhd are often two sides of the same coin
Yess
yo especially when she was complaining abt the clothes she was wearing that one episode
I have ADHD, but I first thought about autism when seeing that character
@@saturnzhornetz44 As well as slower development in motor skills! I believe she has both Autism and ADHD comorbidly, as that is also quite common
The second I saw Robin’s behaviour I was like: “oh boy she’s one of us”
Maya hawke explained on jimmy Fallon that she rambles on and speaks really fast and is very anxious when dealing with something new, the duffer brother decided to give her more lines and told her to just be herself, so the robin we see now is actually maya hawke allowed to be herself
And now I'm sitting here wondering if Maya Hawke is 2e, gifted and neurodivergent...
Has anyone noticed how calm she was before this season and now she is hyperactive? Is it stress induced?
Imo I think she’s unmasking
(Commenting out of enthusiasm before watching, but will watch): I got more autism than ADHD from the character, at least in terms of "this is what I think the creators were encoding in her writing when I analyze the text", but I'm both so I suppose I'm biased in a blendy way haha. In any case, I'm thrilled with Robin as representation of neurospicy people of all flavors, and I'm stoked to see so much discourse springing up as a result of her popularity.
Same.
as someone with adhd + autism, i see so much of myself in robin.. it's telling
Robin is one of my favorite characters. Maya Hawke was the perfect casting for this role. She really makes the character very likeable and relatable.
I am autistic and have ADHD, for me Robin is totally both!!!
Also, I hate it when people complain about Robin this season, some of the things they say deal with how she acting and it's almost like a personal attack because I'm like the thing they are complaining about
all my friends have some sort of neurological disorder. we get along because we get what it's like to be different
robin was on point. her antics, her character... i was diagnosed with adhd at the age of 14 and beside the monsterfighting thing, i was pretty much like she was. a mind dancing with chaos. yes, sometimes its hard for my friends to keep up with the antics. especially with that non existing filter you say sometimes harsh thinks that you dont wanna say or you dont mean. but i it also makes an adhd person very honest.
But now, learning that she mighr have ADHD, its not really the best thing ever to relate SO MUCH to her and I dont know if I should be concerned
x100 Same
My 6 year old was diagnosed with ADHD. He is a 6 year old Robin, however he is super smart and observant, and will repeat things back that I said months ago.
Enjoy him
5:22 also that reaction to the sensory stimulation given by the fabrics is super adhd-like.
thats a good point which i didnt address
4:20 I see what you did there. Talking about Robin's hand movements of excitent when you yourself are doing it.
Someone noticed =) yay
I got diagnosed with ADHD late and I relate to a lot of her behaviors and thought patterns. What many people don't realize is that many people with ADHD are great problem solvers. Robin is one of those people and I absolutely love it!
I really loved getting to know Robin more this season and I definitely picked up on the ADHD. Very relatable and lovable character!
As someone who has both autism and ADHD, I can relate so much to Robin. It made me so happy to see my form of self-expression be portrayed correctly on screen. Not played off as a joke or as pitiful, but just... existing.
she took overthinking to a whole new level
Being self aware enough to know you're not always very good at being self aware is a particular anxiety nightmare that I live with every day
Oh yeah, mood
She does pick up on social cues tho, she's just can't stop herself.
I agree a 100% with you. This exactly what I thought in the first place
Idk about that. Although ASD is more known for not seeing social cues, ADHD ppl miss social cues too but for a different underlying reason. There's so much going on in our brains and we can't direct our attention easily so we miss that information. But if we had all the information we'd understand
@@PARADOXsquared but when robin pays attention she does understand people perfectly, like Nancy and Professor.
@@tedarcher9120 Exactly. That's why I'm saying she doesn't have ASD in addition to the ADHD
There was a lot of Autism I noted in there as well. Of course, there's commonly a lot of overlap.
I have undiagnosed ADHD and even my boyfriend says "oh, you're so much like robin" and as a child, because I always wanted to say what comes to my head, people got really annoyed. So I couldn't keep secrets very well. Even rn I'm doing it again... eventhough noone asked
I annoy the hell out of my husband but then when I go quiet he’s like “what’s wrong?!” I’m like I can’t win 🤦🏽♀️
I don’t know how to be “normal” so I started medication but I don’t like it, I’m only doing it for him.
This explains why robin is so relatable
Georgia, I was SO waiting for the scene where your cosplay came into focus! And of course you NAILED it once again! I have had friends like this! They liked me because of my listening talents, and I was always interested in the things they had to say! And I especially looked forward to being around them when life got sluggish or full of drudgery because being with them was anything but drudgery, and would often help re-spark my own enthusiasm.

i dont have ADHD but im autistic and i very much relate to robin lol
The way she acts and thinks are so similar to the way I do :)
i have adhd, and i REALLY relate to robin. with the rambling and even what she said about how her “mouth is moving faster then my brain”

Quiet hints don't work for adhd people! Be gentle, direct and polite about it. "Hey I need some quiet for a moment while I finish this task, I'll talk to you when I am finished."
I hate when people hint shit at me then get annoyed that I didn't pick up on it faster.
Maya is amazing, my mind kinda exploded when I realized she is the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, now I can't unsee it.

This conversation is making wonder about the intersection of ADHD and introversion. Because I definitely do not do word dumps on people. But the speed with which Robin talks is what's going on in my head.
I have had ADHD, anxiety and autism my entire life basically. I was officially diagnosed when I was 18 but I really do relate to Robin xx
I have a lot of symptoms of ADHD and I got diagnosed with it in 2ed grade and I relate to her a lot
i’ve never been properly diagnosed with anything but my entire life i’ve kinda just talked and talked until i realized i was being ignored by people to the point where i just stopped talking in general. well, i try to. i also am very bad at talking to people i don’t know very well so when i try getting into a conversation and end up talking more than anyone else i get ignored. for the past 3 years i’ve been trying to talk less and less. i always introduce myself by having a big introduction and talking a lot so i’m always seen as the annoying person. even when i comment on videos like this i just talk endlessly. i don’t know why because i never have much to say. although i thought robin was more annoying this season, i realized that i relate to her. talking until someone tells me i’m annoying them or i just realize it myself. this really made me like robin more. she was definitely my favorite character last season and is this season too.
I was thinking this the whole time !! As a fellow adhd-er I def thought the way she thought up the entire fake backstory that granted them access to seeing the prisoner was such an adhd thing
I love Robin I would listen to her talk for hours
as a youth with undigonised adhd all i could was relate to her in this season, felt like i wasnt alone
Hello ADHD here, I can totally agree with the fidgeting and even the mumbling which I didn’t realize was a symptom
Robin is SO relatable!
I have adhd and i relate soooo much with robin! Like i cant run for my life ether!
as someone who pretty much kins robin and has adhd and also has been hyperfixating on stranger things
i love this.
