A few fun facts about Queen:
    * Guitarist Sir Brian May has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and built his electric guitar (Red Special) when he was 17 (with his dad).
    * Bassist John Deacon has a degree in electronics. He designed and built the amp that Brian sometimes uses to create unique sounds on Red Special. John was also involved in the band’s financial management.
    * Drummer Roger Taylor has a degree in biology (pre-med). His vocal range is better than most lead singers of other groups.
    * Lead singer Freddie Mercury has a degree in graphic design. It goes without saying that his vocal range was amazing and he was the best front man of any band.
    * All four have written #1 hits, and all are members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

According to his biography about building the guitar, he was 14/15 years old when they began making it. He was 17 when he first played it in public.

This masterpiece is an a capella ballad, an opera and a rock concert ... seamlessly stitched together, orchestrated by the greatest front man of all time, Freddie Mercury! Rhapsody .... a piece of music written without a formal structure that expresses powerful feelings and emotional excitement. It's a ballad, an opera, and a rocker!

Those harmonies you loved in the beginning is just Freddie layering his vocals. Freddie wrote this and had been working on it during college. He is the pianist and singer. His degree is in graphic design and art You should know a few more songs: he wrote We Are The Champions, The Show Must Go On, Don't Stop Me Now and many more of their 200+ discography. Each of the 4 members are in the Song Writers Hall of fame for writing hits. The bassist is John Deacon and he wrote Another One Bites the Dust and the rff for Under Pressure, stolen by Vanilla Ice for Ice, Ice Baby, and was an electronics whiz who created the amp the gives Brian May's home made electric guitar unique sounds that can't be duplicated. SIR Brian May has a PHD in astronomy and astrophysics and wrote We Will Rock You and dozens more. They were a cohesive band from 1970 thru 91 when Freddie died.. The drummer is Roger Taylor who was the one you thought sounded like a girl. He and Freddie both have vocal ranges approaching 4 octaves. They wrote the music for the Highlander Movie.Roger wrote A Kind of Magic, + Radio Gaga, which Lady Gaga took as her stage name, and several more
They chose the name Queen because it was regal and audacious. Why did the Rock band KISS chose that, or Def Leopard, Black Sabbath,or Led Zeppelin? Well it struck the right tone st the time. I hope you do a lot more Queen. They cover multiple genres and no 2 songs sound the same. They developed into a stadium band breaking attendance records in Europe, So. Anerica, Japan etc. and still have a world wide fan base. The band will be on their U S. tour this fall with Adam Lambert as lead vocalist. You will probably see coverage of Sotheby's auction of Freddie's collections of paintings, Japanese art, antiques, costumes, hand written lyrics and personal items. They are expected to sell for millions, and part will benefit aids foundations. In the meantime, I hope you will discover more Queen songs Thank you for the great review

Little side-light, the bassline for Another One Bites the Dust was inspired by part of the bassline of Chic's Good Times, and it's very close, and certainly remniscent of it, but it's not nearly close enough to be considered a straight lift or plagiarism, it is basically just a kind of tribute or "inspired by" type of thing. Apparently Deacon jammed it while hanging out with Chic in their studio. Chic and their bassist were fine with the inspiration/tribute at the time, but the band later got really pissed off when unrelated third parties ignorantly started accusing Chic of stealing the bassline from Queen :)

    • @LesleyBeswick

No. It's all four men singing together.

  • @sherryheim5504
    @sherryheim5504 ปีที่แล้ว +31

All four members are male. Freddie (lead vocals) suggested the name Queen, their former band name was Smile. Freddie thought that the name Queen was regal, edgy and would have people wondering about the band. Freddie had a degree in Fashion, Design and Advertising so he knew a thing or two about costumes and other things like makeup to add more elements of intrigue to the group. He wanted people to be curious about the band just from their flyers. This band is incredible and their music does not follow any particular genre as all four members are songwriters with number 1 hits and they all have different tastes in music. That high note is Roger Taylor, the drummer who has the most amazing falsetto. Freddie who has a 4 octave range himself, referred to Roger as having that "dog whistle pitch." Freddie's outfit would be considered a bodysuit rather patterned from what you might see in a ballet. These times in rock were called "Glam Rock" and performers (particularly singers) were rather androgynous, wearing strange costumes, long or weird hairstyles, makeup nail polish and high heeled shoes. Thank you for your great reaction.

They are all very talented and intelligent men, for example the lead guitarist is an astrophysicist. Although Freddie was the most flamboyant and incredible front man, they are all incredible vocalists and instrumentalists. They were and still are the most amazing musicians of all time. The falceto you thought was a girl was Roger Taylor on drums. Thank you for sharing ❤

Welcome to the Queen’s world! You can find a huge catalog of their amazing and versatile songs and stunning live performances. You can choose any of them you never won’t be disappointed. They wrote their own stuff in several genres from rock to jazz, to pop, etc. about 200 songs.
Freddie Mercury had 3 unfinished songs and then he put them together into this masterpiece. The recording process of the song took a very long time, but the video which was the first promotional music video in the history was completed in a few hours.
The Queen members created beautiful harmonies in the studios, but their live performances were on another level of entertaining and Freddie's stage presence and crowd control put the crown on them. Pls, check out the live version of Bohemian Rhapsody at Montreal 81.

Nice reaction! You've undoubtedly heard a lot of Queen songs. Some are so iconic that practically everyone has heard them at sports events or in movies or tv shows.
As a start, I'd suggest reacting to Somebody to Love, live in Montreal, their iconic set at Live Aid and the studio version of Don't Stop Me Now. Often Queen's live versions are like totally different songs from their studio versions.

If the movie was right, Freddie named the band Queen because it was outrages and he was the most outrages person he knew. Freddie was also hands down the best front man ever. He had the audience eating out of his hand from the time he walked onstage he mesmerized them. The high note is Rodger Taylor the drummer. He could have been a lead singer for any band. Great voice. Not spandex, I don't know if they even had spandex back then. If you watch more of their videos you will see that they dressed glamorous, Silk, satin, specially designed in the 70's. after that they went with more traditional clothes.

Queen: Freddie Mercury-lead singer, song writer, considered the greatest rock frontman of all time ( the harmonies you heard at the beginning were all done by him and then later the others join in to harmonize, graphic artist degree, died 1991😢; Dr. Brian May-guitarist, songwriter, back up singer, built his own electric guitar with his dad ( guitar called the red special),PHD degree as an astrophysicist; John Deacon- bass player, songwriter, electrical engineer degree, created The Deacy Amp, retired after Freddie’s death; Roger Taylor-drummer, falsetto backup singer, songwriter, biology degree. All professional musicians. RIP Freddie you legend born to create musical magic.

I loved your reaction! This was the original video for the song, just digitally remastered. It was originally done in 1975. So here you go
Freddie Mercury- piano and lead vocals
    Brian May - lead guitar
    John Deacon - bass guitar
    Roger Taylor- drums
It is Roger’s high falsetto you hear. He also has a fantastic voice. Freddie is considered one of the greatest singers of all time. His range was like no other. In my opinion he was the greatest frontman ever. Freddie came up with the band name because he said it sounded regal and outlandish. So, next up, check out Somebody To Love live in Montreal from 1981. Then watch the official video with the studio version. They are very different but both fantastic. Most Queen fans think they sound better live. I could give you a list of songs to do but it would make this comment so long, so I can just give you one or two at a time. Enjoy their music! There will never be another band like them

I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned this, but Freddie wrote this as he was struggling to tell his mother and family he was gay. The man he “killed” was his previous “self”, the man his mother knew and raised. Once you know that, the song hits much deeper. ❤❤

Queen is a most regal rock band that with hits in several genres. You'll soon be well aware if you 'like music'. All four guys are legendary musicians. Only them playing their instruments fills the atmosphere with these magnificent sounds....Freddie Mercury, lead singer and pianist wrote all the lyrics and music. All four worked really diligently to produce this masterpiece. BTW since 1975 even kindergarteners have performed Bohemian Rhapsody. well...

Freddie Mercury was a fan of a local band in the UK called Smile w/ Brian May (guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums) in the 60's... they wrote original songs, but nobody in the music business thought they were any good. Freddie was an aspiring singer, but nobody cared about his early musical career... When the singer/bassist of Smile quit, the band wanted to fold, but Freddie encouraged them to carry on and offered to sing for them in 1970... They went through a few bass players before they settled on bassist John Deacon.
Freddie wanted a new name for the band and decided on Queen - it sounded regal and majestic... Freddie was also a graphic artist, and he designed the Queen logo w/ the horoscope signs of all 4 members.
There were gay implications w/ the name Queen, and in retrospect... it was probably Freddie coming to terms that he was gay. Even though Freddie had a girlfriend (and one-time fiancée) Mary Austin... he would go on tour w/ Queen in America and be hooking up w/ gay men. According to Austin, she suspected that he was gay and unfaithful, and he eventually admitted it to her by the mid-70's... But she and Freddie remained close friends after they split up and started seeing other people... Freddie would move to West Germany by 1979 and was free to explore the gay scene, but a serious relationship evaded him for years.
In an interview in the 80's, Freddie claimed that he "had no friends" except for Mary. His bandmates in Queen were like his brothers who worked and fought together...
In 1987, he was diagnosed w/ HIV (Very few knew... the band Queen and their managers, and Mary Austin) and eventually died in 1991 from the disease... Mary Austin cared for him until the end, and Freddie left her a bulk of his estate in his will.
When Queen began playing shows, it took a few years before they were taken seriously... The band was signed around 1973 and they were writing fantasy songs w/ grand sounds... First 2 albums did not sell initially, but on Queen's 3rd album 'Sheer heart attack'... they had a hit single 'Killer Queen' in 1974... Freddie had more grand ideas for the 4th album 'A night at the Opera' and the band spent quite a bit of money on it... 'Bohemian rhapsody' was Freddie's song and he put layers and layers of vocals to make that choir sound... He made drummer Roger Taylor sing higher and higher (which is why he sounded like a girl 😂) on the track... but the song became Queen's first #1 hit single worldwide and made the band superstars of the 70's...
In 1990, rapper Vanilla Ice was sued for his hit 'Ice ice baby' because he sampled the Queen song 'Under pressure' and did not give them songwriting credit.
After Freddie's death in 1991, the movie "Wayne's World" became a hit in 1992 and 'Bohemian rhapsody' was on the soundtrack... The song became a hit again (!) that year.

Freddie wrote this and had it all in his head before bringing it to the band.
The costume was just something to make them standout. Freddie actually designed and made some clothes when he was in art school.
Freddie harmonized with himself at the beginning.
If you don’t like anything please say so.. this was the correct video.

The skin tight white satin outfit was Freddie's 'Mercury' suit. Mercury (or Hermes to the Ancient Greeks) was the Messenger of the Gods, often depicted with little wings on his heels to allow him to fly down from Mt Olympus and around the world to wherever he was needed. Freddie (who'd studied fashion design at college) designed his suit with little 'wings' at the wrists and ankles. You can get a better look at the overall shape of it (including massive bell-bottom flares!) if you watch Queen Live at the Hammersmith Odeon, 1975. Highly recommend you watch 'White Queen' from that show, if you don't want to watch the whole thing. You'll be blown away!

Queen loved writing and recording head-banging rockers as well as vaudeville sounding ditties, love ballads and sports anthems. Their creativity blasted through the stratosphere. Queen is the only group that each of them had written at least one #1 hit song. The original Queen lineup was easily the greatest rock band in history.

Bohemian Rhapsody is pronounced; Bo-he-me-an Rap-sad-ee. Freddie just liked the word Queen.
Bohemian Rhapsody was written, in 1975, by the late Freddie Mercury (lead vocals and pianist), the falsetto (high pitched) vocals was provided by Roger Taylor (vocals and drums), the bass player John Deacon (white suit), the guitar solos is by Brian May PhD (guitar and vocals, with the striped shirt, playing a guitar he and his father made out of an old table top.) And no Autotune anywhere in sight.

The only girl in this bend is Freddies voice with little help of Roger 😊 Beautiful reaction. Please try Under pressure. Or Somebody to love live. They are the best live bend ever. Their 98% music is much better live then studio versions 😊

There's no female singer in the group Queen. RIP to Freddie Mercury. This song is nearly fifty years old.

That was Freddie Mercury hitting that note you thought was a girl. As a teen he was training to be a professonal opera singer and classica pianist. As a young teen in 1963 on the radio he heard The Beatles song "She Loves You" and he said he knew from that moment on that one day he would be in a rock band. The Beatles seemed to have had that effect on a lot of young people who then went on to become some of the greatest bands and solo artists in history.
No Beatles, none of this stuff happens, they were that important to history as we know it.
Check out video for "Don't Stop Me Now".
    Great song and video.
    Peace ❤

This was the attire in 1975 for bands if you check out and research bands during that era this was the style. Even R&B groups wore the tight one piece jumpsuits it was stage image The name Queen comes from England and they have a Queen unlike America and their all males. Freddie Mercury was the lead singer although they all could sing and yes in this video it shows how musically gifted they were including singing falsetto.

I loved your reaction - instantly subscribed. And yes - the blonde singing the high notes is the drummer, Roger Taylor - very pretty - often called "Rogerina" - and should be seen in the studioversion of "I want to break free" with all 4 members dressed as. women - Roger makes a very pretty schoolgirl. - and it was banned by MTV so Queen lost America - - or the other way round.

Not a girl making that note, it is the drummer who was a great falsetto singer, with a wonderful voice. Freddie Mercury was openly gay, hence the name of the band - Queen. It was an example of typical glam rock clothes of the early 70s, probably real silk.

At the end of the 60s and beginning of the 70s of the last century, there was a partial criminal decriminalization of male homosexuality in the UK, but not a total one, since the exceptions established by law left the door open to persecute homosexuals. The process of acceptance of gay men in the UK began.
The name of the group "queen" played with ambiguity, something that no musical group had previously dared to do at that time.. And the meaning was to play ambiguity and also make music.. Long hair, facial makeup, painted nails, tight and designer clothes...everything you need to be groundbreaking in that sense.
Musically, rhapsody is a song that is composed from the free union of various rhythmic and thematic units, which have no link with each other and is what Fredy confessed that he did. What was he after with it? Personally, I believe that transmitting an anxiety crisis (with its explosive beginning, fear, explosion of anger and final calm) caused by his condition produced in a turbulent historical moment. Initially her behavior was heterosexual but as she later showed he was openly bisexual and gay.

Welcome to Queen, Curtis... Freddie was legendary.. in fact, the entire band.. if you continue down this path, you will most certainly discover that you know MANY songs by Queen.. look forward to more from you...(p.s. "Wayne's World" is where you may know this.. especially the "opera" section...lol).. oh, and no girls.. Roger Taylor, the drummer, had that voice so high that only dogs can hear it... Also, don't get hung up on the term "remastered".. that just means they digitized the original, b/c this was done in 1975(!)... no freakin' autotune.. just pure talent... (one final comment.. most of your reactions are described as either "SHOCKING" or "INSANE".... when over-used, those descriptions tend to lose their impact a bit.. lol)
