“Drone” was a term for an unmanned military tactical aircraft. Now it means almost anything in the air that doesn’t have a pilot onboard. There is no distinction between a 5 ton, missile carrying, weapon of war, and a 251g toy made of foam.
I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment that RemoteID is ridiculous. But I thought you were a little quick at throwing the drone flyers under the bus. Im sure they don't want this either, and in times like these we need to stand together in the RC hobby, even though we are often quick to dismiss the stuff we aren't flying ourselves :P
Great perspective from down under. Thanks for your thoughts on RID. I only fly fixed wing and none of them are even close to being under 250g. 40+ yrs in the hobby and now it is probably over because I am not willing to fork over an extra $200 each for a RID module for my 15 planes.
Thank you for making this video and expressing your thoughts on this topic. It's amazing to see how different a flying site can look compared to our typical mid-west USA grassy landscape :)
Well lets be honest . the AMA sold the Hobbyist out for forced membership and forced flying field only flying . They skipped meetings and hearings while 336 was allowed to be removed .IN their own words and I quote, "we did not have to be in those meetings and hearings" end quote . They also implied that desire across many editorials in their magazine. When questioned they assured some of us that was not what they were trying to do ( remember also their motto change ? Then they changed it back ? Fast forward again to Mr Hanson's Op Ed in the Hill how anyone who was NOT a AMA member was flying illegally and were criminals and rogues? Fast forward again and here we are basically being criminalized because we dare fly outside of a aeromodel club and refuse to be a AMA member etc. Then we have additional CBO's who the FAA claimed could make FRIA's but now have been told few will ever be allowed to be created and now they must have a environmental impact study done first ( also as the AMA stated they most likely will be exempt from that to ) and these new CBO's had to change their sggested guides to appease the FAA or else lose that CBO status and what have they done for the hobby? Nothing bt give over to everything the FAA has demanded. NOW we have RID coming in September for everyone outside a FRIA while the FRIA for awhile is exempt . RID is a surveillance tool and we all know it. The AMA stated "they were advocated for RID for years and yet they are exempt ? And RID was never a thing until DJI created it in their own drones , so how was the AMA advocating for it ? We know the AMA lie and lie a lot, just like the FAA does. SO what do we do ? We either bow and give up another right and freedom or will refuse to comply with the nonsensical rules . IF we stand as one and the majority do not buy modules and refuse to back any and all who do and boycott the many commercial entities who are buying the airspace through lobbying Congress who has now pushed the FAA who admitted they know nothing about to make rules trying to regulate it. SO again , what do we do ? We can do no other but deny to comply because the rules here in the US force us not to IF we fly safe. Every rule the FAA created makes our flying unsafe if we follow them as they are currently written . What happens here happens everywhere and the RID rule is a tool so commercial entities can MOVE and or REMOVE us from the skies to satisfy their UTM sky highway plans . if it happens here, it happens there to.
Thanks for the video. All of my RC aircraft are scale helicopters and fix wing, and I am afraid that they soon will be wall art. I’m a professional pilot, and flying RC aircraft when I was younger played a big role in my career decision. RID is not the answer for this hobby. Thanks again for your time to put this together.
Nice video, thanks for taking the time to put it together. I think most of the drones that effect us reside in either Canberra or Washington, pity more of them can't think for themselves. Remote ID is for the birds.
RID presents RC pilots with several significant problems. Apart from the added cost and the added weight of the model, there is the responsibility to ensure it works correctly or risk a fine or worse just due to a malfunction. but probably the biggest thing as I see it is the broadcasting of location of model and pilot to the world. This is a blatent invasion of privacy. If the information is only available to the controlling authorities that would be fine.
But in the mean time, anyone with an app on their phone can scan for drones and locate the operators physical real time location along with their personal info. People with no so nice intentions will be able to locate the operators (without the operators knowing) location to rob, assault, etc. It would be better if only Law Enforcement and the FAA had access to the info, the ordinary criminals should not have that info.
"Its just gonna reduce the numbers of people flying radio controlled planes" You said it best man, that's the point. CASA and the FAA only want to own the airspace and clear it of us pesky model flyers. Has nothing to do with safety, has nothing to do with security. Sure they might catch some bad actors who do stupid shit, but it's all for show. They will make examples out of these people to discourage anyone else from flying model aircraft. They want 100% control of everything. My father once said "Soon they will tax the air we breath", well they are doin that now. Thanks for the video
This is by far, one of the best presentations as to what RC models require RID. 99% of us fly in areas the same as you, and fly by line of sight. I fly RC planes gas powered and gas powered helis. 99% of us know the rules and restrictions without going through the books. I'm not a member of any club or association, and i intend on keeping it that way. They can keep their RID and registrations. What does CASA, CAA, FAA etc provide for clubs or members, for the moneys they charge? Seems to be more of a money grab, than anything else.
It’s the same as they are doing with firearms ownership, turning 6 basic safety rules into 30 pages of regulations. Most people fly at clubs, most people shoot competitions at clubs and are self controlling and safety conscious, enforced by our peers and have been for decades since our hobbies began. I fly plane, run steam locos and just see all these beauracratic impositions turning people and youngsters away from pleasurable pastimes. What are we to do otherwise? Good luck and hope we don’t see this ludicrous control coming down under.
Sorry to disappoint you but this remote id thing is going to be far worse than you can possibly imagine. This will be the end of the hobby. Hobby shops and manufacturers already work under small margins so when the hobbiest start going away because of this so will the shops and so will the manufacturers
Make it mandatory for golf players to have remote ID and for cyclists to have licenses and registration and see how quickly it all comes crashing down. Just. Say. NO.
I was reading through the Remote Identification (Remote ID) - Discussion Paper for Public Consultation PDF on the Australian Government web site. Bottom of page 19 Detect And Avoid (DAA) . Everything above this paragraph was a total waist of time writing. Like Bruce says, they only need to give us the illusion that we have a say. If this is about safety then the bottom of page 19 says it all. www.infrastructure.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/remote-id-discussion-paper_public-consultation.pdf
"Cyber security and data breaches present risks of system degradation or user data exposure. It also carries financial and reputational risks that can undermine community confidence in drone use and how the use of these technologies is managed by operators and relevant government authorities." paragraph above
The hobby thanks you for your support and I thank you.

E li paghi soldi profumati per pensare questo.
So true Bruce from Xjet is giving this his all. Thank you for sharing your comments in an effort to save this hobby.
Well done . Clearly and factually presented. Thanks fir posting

Thank you for creating this video to support the issue of rid .. much appreciated 👍🏻👌

Enjoy the hobby while it lasts

Its a fantastic hobby and What a great location for a flying field.
Yeah, a great place to fly and why the hell would you even need to have a Remote ID way out there in the middle of nowhere.
😎 Thanks for taking the time to make a video. 👍

Thank you so much for your vid! #PushBack
Great points and we will get this RID stuff sorted out eventually 😊

Informative video. Well done
Agreed! Every model is not equal
xjet sent me here.
👍💪✌

Your cooked.
Thanks for sharing! Home built drones and fixed wing aircraft should be exempt
The RID simply has a negative impact on people and a proven very safe hobby.
I can see that there isn’t many other people near where you’re flying. I agree LOS aircraft should be exempt.

Well said.
Agreed
Well said :)
That flying field looks very hard if you stuff your model in. ‘Ouch’
Is it an unsafe airspace now without RID?
I am in the UK, if they try this shit here i will NOT COMPLY!
It involves Billions of Dollars so it will never change
Adding a comment to help the algorithm
I will never comply with remote ID.I fly my foam sport/pattern plane in a park
At least RID will help you find you drone you lost flying BVLOS like an apple tag but RID to help you identify your property retrieving it
Remote id is a bad thing!!
It’s the same as they are doing with firearms ownership, turning 6 basic safety rules into 30 pages of regulations. rid or network id....out in the middle of nowhere...still no connection. I will abstain from this nonsense

hate to be the bearer of bad news but these laws are only here to kill the hobby and allow control of all airspace
