Wow Kize that was amazing. As a bluebelt I'm still a beginner in the sport, but I can see how you have a natural talent for the craft. You'd have a bright future in this gentle martial art. As others have commented before me, I sincerely do hope you'll find your way onto the tatami again. Oss
This was SO fun to watch. Your cardio is incredible. I've been doing it for awhile, I could not take on the test you went through at the end. that was VERY impressive!!!

I'm now feeling like I'm in better shape then I was when I was 25 and 155 lbs. I don't really know if there is a better cardio workout than rolling (sparring) in bjj. It also is so core intensive that I've really noticed my gut disappearing. I have not lost a ton of weight in the process, only about 8 lbs so far, but definitely puton a bit of muscle. I've always had a hard time motivating myself to go to the gym, but I don't have that problem with Jui Jitsui. It actually has been pushing me to actually want to go to the gym on off days to better my time at Jui Jitsui. But The best part for me is that my feet almost completely quit hurting. I used to come home from work and literally want to do nothing but put my feet up. Starting my journey was not been easy, especially the first couple months, but it's helped me get my life back again. I was really not doing well mentally after a couple years with the covid pandemic and how much my body was just hurting all the time, I can say bjj has quite possibly saved my life.

Keep at it. For me it wasn't just obesity but also some old injuries. I've lost nearly 40# in almost 8 months. I recently upped my training regimen from two days off per week to one. I'm not rolling the whole duration but it's closer now than it was previously. It's a long slow process but it pays dividends. I had abdominal surgery last year and my core's not back yet but it's close. My knees hurt sometimes from a fall I took more than 10 years ago, and I'm the slowest runner and the worst lateral mover there. I had a repetitive-motion injury a while back, and I've had broken bones and sprains. I just hit 50. All that's meaningless, except that I still have to modify sometimes during warm-ups and drills, which are for me the hardest part of the class. What isn't meaningless, is I can now do a lot of stuff I used to be able to do, and I expect it will get better and easier if I keep with it. Nobody wants to roll with the big strong guy who's a beginner, except for blue belts and above, and the occasional white belt who's got comparable size and strength. First time I rolled with a black belt, I didn't expect to WIN, but I thought I might at least give an OK fight. Didn't happen. Message given and received. I purchased a black gi after that. Easier to not show blood. I don't know your relative fitness, but you can expect some bruises and blood, and to feel whatever issues you have...just keep going and things will get better. You'll get hurt, just don't let it stop you. One thing about being a beginner is you tend to go all-out; I don't know enough yet to go slower or sometimes lighter. Which is one reason nobody wants to roll with the big guy. Nearly every obese person I ever knew, including myself, was a lot stronger than average, and we're usually no more prone than others to WANT to hurt others, but when you've got more size and mass, it can happen by accident easier than it does with a smaller individual (and the very small ones are the other ones people are reluctant to roll with...the why should be obvious here as well).

I just started taking Jui Jitsu because of recent trauma. I’m only 3 classes in and its just sooo much fun! I haven’t had the courage to just roll with anyone yet 😣 I wanna throw myself in as hard as you did though and give it a shot next time 💪🏻
Keep on going and courage will follow 🤙🤙🤙I really started to roll on my 4th month and only after I found my bjj tribe outside of US. Keep on going that's the key 🗝️ No matter where you are ☺️ You can even get a dummy (I travelled with it) to help you practice at the beginning as it helps with muscle memory at least for me it did.
Never be scared to roll. You will lose. You will be put in uncomfortable situations. However the only way to put together what you learn is to roll. Diamond's are formed under pressure. So embrace the pressure. Do not run from it! Good luck on your journey!
My kids (5, 8 and 12) all do bjj with my hubby. I told them I was joining the gym next week and started watching videos on bjj for women and they kind of freaked me out (started regretting telling the kids) Your positive attitude reset me and reminded me why I wanted to try it! Thanks for the great, positive video.
I know this was months ago but I just started 2 weeks ago! 1 class was more judo and other was no gi fundamentals. The thing I already love the most is the people, the community. At the time I started my "fundamentals" they were still further along from day 1... so I just jumped in but everyone respected my pace or if I needed to rest and gather myself etc... everyone WANTS people to be there and it's a great thing!
I did it for the first time in the beginning of this week and now this evening and I’m looking for extra motivation bc I feel like a fish out of the water and sparring was so scary and I didn’t remember any techniques 😓 pls wish me luck 🙂
Hey Kize, I saw your video a few weeks back and it helped me a lot on my fear of starting out on an MMA gym as a total noobie. I had my first class last night, it was rough but I think that was the hardest step and I thank you for helping me take this after so many months of thinking about whether I should do it or not. Thank you, really.
I really like the conversations after the learning processes. What I learned from this video is that enjoying the learning process is the key. Don’t take it too serious and enjoy the process.
Im a purple belt myself and I was suprised how good your movements were after just 30 days I hope you continue doing BJJ For another challenge Id like to see you trying out climbing
Ive been doing jiujistu for about 4 months so im still very new but im training with alot of brown and blackbelts getting tapped and i find getting tapped by people better then you make you so much better
6 years in, 4-stripe purple here, and you were absolutely incredible. I'm sure you heard it a million times but 99.9% of practitioners have been in your exact shoes. Even with years of judo, HS wrestling, and a childhood of karate could only prepare me so far (not very lol). I think, similar to you, one of the biggest first steps wasn't a physical one. It was the mental adjustment philosophically. To put it into more practical terms, it was pacing. One of the most important advice I give to anyone new is to *breathe*. Hope you continue your training! If not, glad you gave it your all 🤙🏻🤙🏻
@@Maya_hee nothing wrong with Karate . It’s just an inside joke on youtube by misinformed people. Some of the greatest UFC fighters like GSP and Lyoto Machida have backgrounds in Karate. Tiffany Van Soest, current women’s Glory Champion, all has a background in Karate.
Helpful and encouraging video. I went to a class last evening. First time in 50 years. You are stronger, more fit and quicker than I am. I joined in right away even though my intent had been just to watch. So glad I did. I did the exercises and some specific types of rolls. Everyone was helpful and often let me do my pitiful attempts at countering and escaping. Glad I got started again. Hope my body agrees.
I trained for1 year and it was so impactful on my life and its been about 6 months since the last time I rolled and this really makes me want to rejoin again. something wholesome about bjj that's indescribable. love it.
Wow, great work. For sure, you know how to learn. I've never written down or notated flowcharts and can definitely see how that can be super helpful for conceptualizing and giving yourself a cheat sheet for what to do next. This could be helpful for everyone doing jiu jitsu.
Kize, I was completely impressed. I did many forms of martial arts when i was younger for the better part of 20 yrs. What you did in 30 days was amazing! You certainly have the knack for this sport and should continue. Even if you just do it for the shear enjoyment a couple of times a week its certainly great exercise and a skill you can take into life that may save your life one day.
Wow the way you pass guards and pull triangles for being just 30 days in is incredible. I hope you keep going with your bjj training, you are clearly talented
My partner has been doing Jiu jitsu for 14 years and has always wanted me to get into the sport. As a tiny Asian potato, I've always been reluctant. But tomorrow, I'm heading to my first class to try it out. Had to find this video again to get my inspiration through you ❤️
I’m still contemplating to even take a trial class, it seems so overwhelming. The main reason I want to is because of my anxiety and I really need something to focus on. But my anxiety is making it quite difficult to take that leap, lol funny how that works. Idk why I’m so freaked out
Totally understandable! Especially given how close-contact jj is. Don't force yourself to do it, the time will come. When you want to, you'll go! Or take a friend with you! That way they'll most likely be your drilling partner.
You should really do a jiu-jitsu journey channel. Your production skills and screen presence are excellent. Obviously I'm a bjj practitioner and this would be cool to see.
I have always wanted to take a jiu jitsu class or a taekwondo class but always nervous about the environment. I am busy with school and working full time but I think I am going to go ahead and find a place near me. Seeing you more confident after 30 days got me excited!
I've been doing BJJ for about 6 months and you honestly held your own better than I could. A lot of that was me being too chicken to attend rolling sessions often during the first couple of months, and then being unable to due to time conflicts when I realised how important it is. Don't skip out on rolling folks its the most important time you'll spend in the gym!
Keep going..it’s an amazing martial art. I’ve been training for 6 months now at 44 years old. I’ve lost a lot of weight an love the workout not too mention all the great people I’ve met.
I like that you picked both Muay Thai (another video) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for your martial arts journey. They are very different but both great arts to learn and put together. Great video, sweetheart.
Hi Kize! I’ve watched your channel and I think it’s really cool that you tried out jits coming from someone with a lil over 2 years of experience. I too have multiple hobbies/interests which is why I like your channel. Keep it up!
This was awesome. You really put in some serious work and didn't slack on this challenge a bit. Props to you for pushing yourself and making some serious strides in just 30 days! Well done.
I loved hearing this! It is 100% true that it feels overwhelming and so much info is thrown at you LOL...When I first started I was HORRIBLE and anxious for the first 2-3 months. If your ever in SC come I'd love to connect and get in a roll!
The funny thing with jiu-jitsu (or really any skill for that matter), is that the more you learn, the more you realise that you don't actually know anything. Jiu-jitsu is a constantly evolving sport, and there is ALWAYS more to learn or refine. Great work, I loved watching this journey :)
This is amazing, I really want to give this a go. I challenge you to take up bouldering for 30 days. It's such a technical sport, not just about upper body strength and you can track your progress really easily with the grading system. Would love to watch you do this!
Youre an inspiration, and so courageous to break through the comfort zones; I value your mental strength, concentration and tenacity. Absolutely gorgeous.
Well done. I have been doing jiu jitsu for approaching four years. I think you are on target to get some awesome skills if you continue. If anything I believe that not studying the game more and kind of organizing my progression from move to move and position to submission in a focused study has probably kept me back from progression. I have had no shortage of live rolls, submitting others and being submitted for sure, but writing notes and organizing the process mentally is really a great way to get even more out of your learning experience. I hope to bite your style on this process.
honestly from the beginning where you felt like you didn’t do as good, you did pretty dang good than most adults bc honestly, ego can get the best of everyone and so i really thought it was awesome literally from day 2 you started thinking, but loving the sport and it takes a long time to get to one thing. i hope you continue the journey 💯 🔥
as someone who recently started jiu jitsu that was really fun to watch. Idk if you continued with it but I think that would be really cool to see progress updates every once in a while.
I see you put a lot of work into doing the Jiu Jitsu challenge, which is fantastic!! You inspire me! I barely have any outdoor hobby so far besides bouldering, and now I feel like I probably can try Jiu Jitsu in the future! You are AMAZING!!!
I am a blue belt and I think you did really well. I hope you continue your jujitsu journey and if you are ever in Culver City you should check out Gerson Sanginitto's gym.
Congratulations Kize! For only 30 days, you did really well and you catch up pretty well the techniques and applying them in resisting sparrings! more importantly you had fun!
yeah VoW must have some good teachers cause your frames, regardless of how well they were applied, their intent was really good - feet always on a shin or hip, knees recovered to prevent guard pass. well done
WOW! I have been wanting to take martial arts classes, but I wanted to see what it is was truly like as a beginner. Your video gave my peace of mind, as I thought to myself on how hard it may be for me to remember the moves, but your mentioning how it was for you in the beginning to remember once you were on the floor gave me hope! I'm excited to start Jiu Jitsu!
I’m interested in seeing your notes/ cheat sheet. When he said that you’re skilled at learning a light bulb went off on my head. What if your learning style could be replicated or taught?
Thank you for this beautiful and honest display of the sport that has given me so much joy and comfort throughout the years. You did a great job of explaining how most classes are set up, as well as the positive energy from instructors and training partners.
I'm a musician and also a BJJ Black belt running some schools in Italy. I found this channel because of the learning process of the music which you are very methodic and have an excellent way of learning things. Then, I just found out that you've tried also jiu-jitsu!!! You really know how to learn! Your speed on the learning process was really high. You are a natural grappler. If you come to Italy one day, let me know! So we can do some music and Jiu-jitsu together!!! Oss!!!
Former brown belt here, retired in my 40s from accumulation of injury. It's supposed to be the gentle art but it really isn't. Especially without the gi. Be careful if you're not younger than 30 and want to do it for a long time. I was impressed with your grasp of how to move after 30 days. Athletic people who come from certain sports tend to get it faster than average. Well done.
Depending on where you train at but for the most part Jiu Jitsu guys and girls are extremely friendly and pleasant people. It looks like you probably made some friends at that gym so thats very cool. Also, very nice 30 day progression!
First time watching your videos. I really really really hope u keep going with BJJ. You are a beast after just 30 days. Your work ethic and smart practices is something to be admired. Please don't stop. Please document the whole thing. Sincerely, new sub and fan.
Yo this was awesome! I just started bjj. I've been to 3 classes. Rolling can be intimidating but I agree with you, starting rolling right away. Great stuff!
Woow I just discovered your channel ! I am a blue belt in Jiu jitsu and I can say that I still know nothing about the art haha I really like your video, you have a cool format! I’m curious about your flowchart now haha
I’m a blue belt that’s been training for almost 3 years. You did great. Hope you stuck with it because you are much better than a lot of people after 30 days.
hope your keeping it up doing it for some years, but you never stop learning. mat time is pretty much the most important the more you stay with it the more fun it gets.
I love how it looked like the group classes started with the triangle choke which can be one of the harder but more fun moves. I'm 14 and have been doing jiu jitsu for around a year now and I think you progressed pretty well in 30 days.
Really impressed with the amount of jujitsu you were able to learn in 30 days!! That took expert instructors and a willing student. Also super impressed with the production quality. Really nice job!!
YOU did so good! I’m 12 and been training since six, I’m still a bit rusty on my shots due to making bad habits but your very impressive! Take downs are my rusty parts lol!
Great video and very impress progress in just 30 days. My biggest take away from BJJ is the lack of ego for the most part. They are some of the most chill and helpful people you will meet and always willing to help out.
I just hit my first month. Some guys with 2 years of xp are starting to have hard time man-handling me like they used to.. guys with 3 months or less.. I'm tapping them left and right. I did train about 10 years ago for few months though. I'm 34 right now, been eating well, taking protein, stretching and attending 5 days a week. We have several black belts, brown belts and purple belts in my gym. They train bfl and even ufc fighters. It's been amazing so far. Every day I feel like I'm better than the day before and some days I feel like I suck but I do know I'm improving and I'm not letting that get in my way. Today's rolling was amazing. Rolled 4 dudes and wasn't put of breath by the end of it. My stamina, strength, grip, body shape, etc. All improved so much just in 30 days! It is important to take time off if your body is telling you to do so. I'm generally pretty fit and always been working hard and doing physical stuff. It is important to remember not to push it too hard if you feel you shouldn't. Start on the ground to avoid knee injuries. I found this stuff to help me as I played it wrong the first time around, 10 years ago when I got badly injured. Hope you stick with it.. I can't wait to compete!
Just subscribed based on this video. I like how you overcame the challenges most beginners face relatively quickly and I think it’s because the team and instructors provided support with a growth environment added to your ability to learn and your growth mindset
Coool video! I hope you keep training! I was told as a new white belt beginner “if you take care of your jiujitsu, one day, your jiujitsu will take care of you”.
Im a 3 stripe white belt thats been active for over 3 years just been inconsistent. Your growth was me when i first started because i went to the classes and instead of yapping with the other kids i watched the instructor and got the information. Id say youre already a 1 stripe white belt.
I’m a purple belt currently and I’ve been doing jiu jitsu for 5 years since I was 15. I was always one of the smallest guy in the gym so I know that feeling when you get your first submission in the gym. Jiu jitsu can be addicting because sometime after a year or more of consistency you start to understand the game more and connect dots. Jiu jitsu is a great sport and hobby so I hope to see you in a tournament in a few months they’re fun.
I have my first class tonight! Have been doing Muay Thai for about a month and wanted to try jiu jitsu as well. This video calmed my nerves and made me way more excited😁
Nice job! As 10 year, recently promoted black belt, BJJ practitioner I am very honored you decided to challenge yourself. I agree with your instructors, by the end you are performing more like a 3-4 month white belt. I truly hope you continue you BJJ journey! And yes…most BJJ academies are like Wii audiences…well, at least ours is…lol. There’s no prouder moment for an instructor then when we see our students executing the techniques they learned! Can’t help but cheer!!!!! OSS!!!
They're right, you advanced a lot for only 30 days. I stuck with jiu jitsu mostly because of the community and friendships that are formed. Most of my closest friends that I have right now I met at jiu jitsu.
"I found that these moves didn't work at all when someone's resisting you and doing everything in their power to stop you." Bingo. Timing and sensitivity is a big part of the execution, and can take years to refine. Well said.

I just started taking Jui Jitsu because of recent trauma. I’m only 3 classes in and its just sooo much fun! I haven’t had the courage to just roll with anyone yet 😣 I wanna throw myself in as hard as you did though and give it a shot next time 💪🏻
I’m about to start this week because of recent trauma as well. We got this!
How is your jits journey going? I hope your still as it as it's a real struggle for the first few months.
Never be scared to roll. You will lose. You will be put in uncomfortable situations. However the only way to put together what you learn is to roll. Diamond's are formed under pressure. So embrace the pressure. Do not run from it! Good luck on your journey!
Do it! You'll be surprised.
I'm a blue belt and just want to say that was amazing progression in 30 days!! Hope you decide to stick with it.
Yea, I would say damn near unbelievable. Clearly she had more than 30 days of experience.
@@shyfly6560 definitely does look that way!
Hello blue belt friend!!
@@shyfly6560 Clearly not. Did you forget her day 1 shrimps? She put in a LOT of work in that time.
As someone who literally rolled for the first time last week, this was a great inspiration to keep going! Thank you!!!
Im a purple belt myself and I was suprised how good your movements were after just 30 days
I hope you continue doing BJJ
For another challenge Id like to see you trying out climbing
Ooo indoor climbings a great idea
Kize probably does a lot of cardio with calisthenics that helped her mobility in these 30 days challenge and that's probably why she adapted so well.
"I do not know the first thing about jiu-jitsu" ..proceeds to explain jiu-jitsu better than the average blue belt would.
Thanks Oliver! Indoor climbing would be a real challenge. I'm still working on my upper body strength.
@@joshwilkins4997 Did a lot of research. Didn't even know there was such thing as gi / no gi until I started😅
If not, glad you gave it your all 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Karate. Lol
@@Looking-great What's wrong with Karate?
@@Maya_hee 🤣
Wrestling coach and 8 months into my BJJ journey and you DID AMAZING. You have natural talent, you should definitely invest time into BJJ.
Had to find this video again to get my inspiration through you ❤️
How was it ?
I’ve been training, competing, and coaching in this sport my whole life. I loved watching this video. You did really really well!
I’m still contemplating to even take a trial class, it seems so overwhelming. The main reason I want to is because of my anxiety and I really need something to focus on. But my anxiety is making it quite difficult to take that leap, lol funny how that works. Idk why I’m so freaked out
Did you ever work up the courage to take a trial class?
Totally understandable! Especially given how close-contact jj is. Don't force yourself to do it, the time will come. When you want to, you'll go! Or take a friend with you! That way they'll most likely be your drilling partner.
Bjj turned into my anxiety release. Take a breath and try the trial class. I've been training for 1.5 yr now and I can't imagine my life without it
You should really do a jiu-jitsu journey channel. Your production skills and screen presence are excellent. Obviously I'm a bjj practitioner and this would be cool to see.
I was hesitant to start but your video inspired me and i am hyped to start! Tomorrow is my first trial, fingers crossed! Lov'd your video.
I have always wanted to take a jiu jitsu class or a taekwondo class but always nervous about the environment. I am busy with school and working full time but I think I am going to go ahead and find a place near me. Seeing you more confident after 30 days got me excited!
Recommend jiu jitsu. Tkd isn’t that practical in my experience
Keep it up!
I started BJJ 4 weeks ago and watching this video I'm extremely impressed with what I saw. I think you should keep going. Well done OSU!
This was awesome. You really put in some serious work and didn't slack on this challenge a bit. Props to you for pushing yourself and making some serious strides in just 30 days! Well done.
Im 14 and I've been doing BJJ for 3 years, I'm a grey belt with 3 stripes, its so fun watching people learn my sport😂
Wow, you were doing better after 30 days than a lot of people after half a year. You should totally continue and show us your monthly progress. 👏👏👏🤩
I agree you perform as if you have been training for 3-4 months! You’re a natural student. Happy Training!
BB here, great job! I agree with the feedback you received at the end. I hope you keep with it!
Yay!! So excited to see the video drop!! It was a pleasure to meet you and roll with you. Hope to see you on the mats again someday!💗
Thanks for all your tips Sarah! You made it fun😊
I am a blue belt and I think you did really well. I hope you continue your jujitsu journey and if you are ever in Culver City you should check out Gerson Sanginitto's gym.
Congratulations Kize! For only 30 days, you did really well and you catch up pretty well the techniques and applying them in resisting sparrings! more importantly you had fun!
yeah VoW must have some good teachers cause your frames, regardless of how well they were applied, their intent was really good - feet always on a shin or hip, knees recovered to prevent guard pass. well done
Oh, you have a video on Jiujitsu as well! Perfect!
You should be proud of your accomplishments. You did great for 30 days, I hope you continue. You have talent. Congrats.
Oss!!!
First time watching your vids and had a smile on my face watching the progression - great job and thanks for sharing!
3 months in personally and I think you understand the techniques a lot better than I do. Good work!
Great challenge! I am a beginner at jiu jitsu and was wondering if you could share your 8pt font flow chart of techniques? Thanks!
Well done.
Wow you got scary good after only a month. that knee slice is clean, did better than any other 30 day bjj Ive seen on YT
Thanks, really appreciate everything you do!
I just started my BJJ journey in Nov 2021. You did fantastic! I hope you continue your journey.
Damn! You got so good in 30 days! Just got my 1st stripe on my white and I’m inspired by what you did here. Thanks for doing this!
Vow is the best!!! I know half the people in this video ❤️ good job!!!!
You're actually pretty good at jiu jitsu! Hope you keep practicing!
Woow I just discovered your channel ! I am a blue belt in Jiu jitsu and I can say that I still know nothing about the art haha
I really like your video, you have a cool format!
I’m curious about your flowchart now haha
Kize!! What a great video showcasing your ability to learn quickly and good spirit! I definitely vicariously felt the intensity of the rolling
Question? Do you like jj more or the material arts in your other video
I'm a junior belt in bJJ and I am 3 years in, I love it!! I found the more you try in BJJ the better you will get. I hope you keep going!!
Also super impressed with the
production quality. Really nice job!!
You should definitely stick with it. It looks like you are a natural. I have been going for 3 years and it is one of the best choices I have made.
They are some of the most chill and helpful people you will meet and always willing to help out.
nice job, well done. An excellent way to go through life...a new skill every month or so...while taking time to actually understand the skill.
Crazy good progress for 30 days. Your cardio and conditioning is really impressive.
I really hope you keep doing jiu jitsu after this! Never stop training!
Very cool project! Vow is a great gym.
Keep going👌
You can upload your first competition video in JJ after months or year. This would be very interesting
1 week rolls drills, stretches
2 week roll drill stretches, workout
3 week rolls drills stretches workout chokes.
4 week stretch rolling
Very impressed. You need to continue in jiu-jitsu.
Brown belt, been at it 9 years. This was super impressive. Way better than i was the first month 😂
Very cool, great you started the journey!!!🔥👏
Ty!
This Gym and community looks so sick. would love to roll there. Good work on the training.
Well said.
Your movement and recomposition of base is fantastic!
