The warrior in me, the one who homebrew martial arts even as a child, said "Stop that Giggling, Woman!". OTOH, my internal & empathic Uncle Taz aspect knew; when in full grapple Alayna would relax directly into it, with a sigh.
As a lesbian who is both a black belt in karate and also a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu, you don't understand how excited I am to see another woman have gay panic over a simple task in Jiu Jitsu :) I AM NOT ALONE ANYMORE IN MY PANIC 😂😂😂
What great instructor. She went along with your nervous silliness, without becoming annoyed, and did her best to teach you about Jiu Jitsu. Brava to her and to you.
Queer martial artist here ✌️im the only gal training in my school much less the only queer person. i cannot tell you how excited i was when this video showed up on my feed. I think i can speak for everyone when i say we'd love to see more jiu jitsu content 😄
Jiu jitsu dates back to the 6th century AD, and was used by the samurai during the feudal period of Japan, as a combat method for those times when a weapon wasn't readily available. It used to be much more vicious but as time went by it was adapted for more sport use. It can still be used effectively for self defense. When it arrived in Brazil, the Gracie family added elements of judo and placed emphasis on takedowns and grappling and BJJ was born. (turning off geek mode)
It is incredible how much jiu Jitsu informs my work with clients. Countless lessons about anxiety management, my hang ups about control, how to be empathetic and challenging, how to rely on humility and openness so I can learn unexpected lessons by surprising people, how to be present, how to fail forward, how to work with what is given to me, how to work with different types of people, how to be honest about my limitations, and the value of physicality, activity, exercise and embodiment in healing trauma. I obviously could go on forever! 😊
Ahh. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or “Struggle Cuddles”, the art of folding someone else’s clothes, while they’re still wearing them. 🤣😂 That was always my favorite explanation of it lol. Love it. 🤙🏼🤟🏼💪🏼🤘🏼👑
I really love the Alayna does stuff videos more than I like the Alayna reacts to content ones. I know you're super busy and I assume the reaction ones are less time intensive, so this comment is extra appreciation for the algorithm.
this video is maybe my most favourite ever!! i’m a karate black belt and i’ve done some jiu jitsu and alayna you did soooo well omg!! i can’t wait for this to be discussed on the chosen family pod 😂😂😂😂 Ashley and mak will lose it ahahahahahahaha 🥰
Okay sapphic giggles aside.... this actually looked so fun, and like something you Alayna would be into and could get good at. Would love to see process.
UPDATE - you did incredibly well and picked up quick, great job! Heyo former competitive jiu jitsu player here ❤ I have mild cerebral palsy, but I practice boxing, Judo and wrestling also. I'm excited to see you do well! Your grip strength will def come in handy 🤙🏼💪🏼
Looks you had a good time! I practice catch wrestling which is similar to jiu jitsu but a bit more on the aggressive side and you don't wear a gi. My first session I was similarly panicky and had never been in a 'fight' before. Being in such close proximity with someone took some getting used to, as well as going out of my way to hurt them, but not hurt them in a way that would be physically damaging longterm. You get such a knowledge of how your body and someone elses body works and gain such an awareness of your physical presence. My coach had us do full sparring pretty much immediately knowing only two things like you and he did not hold back! While at times it was scary I enjoyed it too and have carried it on ever since
Obviously we probably haven't seen the entire session, but that was impressive in any case, Alayna! Granted, the teacher is also really good didactically, and one on one with a blackbelt is always a treat. :-)
Every time you do one of these videos where you try out different sports Alayna, I'm like: "yeah, I wanna do that!". Love how fun yet competitive this seemed
I'm so happy you tried Jiujitsu! 😆 it's really an amazing martial art and the best for women wanting to know self defense. I like to describe it as a human chess with your body hehe. At the beginning you can be a bit afraid cause it's very close contact but it's definitely worth it. You actually forget it after some practice because you're into what technique you can do or how to escape. It teaches you how to handle people in your space and to be much more confident with your body. It gave me a lot of confidence and it reflects on my life! I would recommend you to continue if you can hehe, you did great for a first class and doing rock climbing is a huge advantage for griping Gi. Many people are building their grips for BJJ thanks to climbing. I would recommend you some really cool black belt women to follow to see more: Margot Cicarelli, Brianna Ste-Marie, Ffion Davies, Emily Kwok and more. Actually, tomorrow will be one of the biggest No Gi fight between Brianna and Ffion Davies!
Hi, AJ! Been a silent sub since forever... all of your videos are awesome, ..this was by far one of the most fun content...and informative..n ol dat..and the Master, she's a Legend!! anyhooo just wanted to let you knnow... keep doin what you do... and goes without saying..THANK YOU! Oh BTW...The part when you cautioned the Master that you were gonna go for it was.... just wow...it got me cracking...!!!! But the best part of that sequence was that ...you went for it, giving your best shot to gauge your strength and ability at the sport,... there's a great lesson there...despite being a first timer/beginner you showed that we should give our best and not shy away or be timid ... but give your all... we all need to do/learn that.... This video was a perfect balance of fun, entertainment and life lessons .... Thank You again and sorry for the long stretch. Lol
i love seeing all these plays in my hometown.. i dont live in vancouver anymore but i have a friend who has cerebral palsy that still does competitive adapted brazilian jiu jitsu. your vids make me smile alayna! eventhough i dont live in vancouver anymore its nice to be reminded of where i used to live!
I did BJJ for 3 years and it was great for self defence, my mental health, being involved in a community and also for my confidence. When people first try it out it can be weird and uncomfortable, but I found I got used to it. I absolutely loved this video Alayna and I hope that you try BJJ out more often because it is an amazing sport
God, I love watching you SO much, Alayna! You remind me of someone in my past... My only issue with this video is that you were giggling/ laughing so much, but I understand
I'm learning muay thai and I'm very no reactive/body coordinated so it´s difficult to me be violent or protect myself from punchs. I had so much fun watching this video bc remember me why I started the classes and why I have not to be embarassed for being a begginer.
Alayna, I have always loved, love, and always will love your videos! In this video, though, I was not only laughing at your nervous laughing, gay panic, etc, but also at the editor comments. I've done it on some other videos before, too, but especially on this one. You both (all?) are great and, if they don't see this comment, could you please pass along the message? Thanks, Alayna; keep being your sweet, funny self, hun!!!
I get the sense Alayna's not going to stop nervous giggling the entire video. That's when you know its a good one. Lmfao
we cut out so much nervous giggling
@@AlaynaJoyOfficialYou trying to tell us that this is REDUCED giggling?? I don’t believe that could be true

Im with you man! As a lesbian and a blue belt in judo, the gay panics are real😂😅
Ah, Jiu-Jitsu, or as it's also known: "The art of folding clothes while people are still in them" or "involuntary yoga" 😅
Would love to fight you with a windbreaker jacket
Björn = cuddle with a struggle
I practiced Jiu-Jitsu for years, and that was the sweetest, kindest grappling match I've ever seen 😄
Great instructor! She was very gentle
Would you wear a nylon windbreaker jacket as we fight
Every time the instructor said "submission" and you glanced at the camera, I started cracking up. I promise I am not a child (just child-ish) lol
"All I know about Jiu Jitsu is (...) Julien teaching Jenna Marbles" Same girl same. Those videos are so cute though.
it's also what I think of every time I think of jiu jitsu so now I can add this to my mental collection!
"I'm panicking!" :D
This video was pure fire. Also, now I can't think of jiu-jitsu as anything other than competitive hugging.
It is. :-)
It is also "chess with limbs".
@@jamielondon6436 I've also heard it referred to as "human origami" and "folding clothes with people still in them" and "involuntary yoga"

As a jiu jitsu athlete... I loved every second of this. I pause and mention that we're just giving violent hugs allll the time :)
Haha! When I played rugby we used to explain tackling to newbies as "big, vicious hugs"
Hahah ❤ how Alayna wasn't too shy to immediately tap out of the strangulation
Based on the thumbnail, I'm guessing this is now Alayna's favorite sport.
I just see the thumbnail. "That's why Greco-Roman wrestling had a reputation for gayness."
10:40 that "nice" made me snort louder than it should have

the desire not to hurt someone is so real :( when I learned karate as a teen, that's exactly how I felt about sparring.
