It is hard to narrow down, but these are, in my opinion, the first five submissions you should learn in Jiu-Jitsu. I based this on the criteria of versatility, efficiency, mechanics and principles. There are so many important considerations to make in regard to position and setup, but it is imperative you understand how these particular techniques work.
Let me know what your top five would be, and if you have any questions you think I might be able to help with. I really appreciate you watching, liking and subscribing!

This might be the most succinct and helpful video I've seen yet for getting started and practicing submission fundamentals. As a white belt, BJJ can be overwhelming with the amount of information to digest. Its also what makes it so beautiful. But as a beginner, it's important to have someone simplify where to start and what to pay attention to. Thanks for your breakdown and walkthrough of these essential moves!

    In my utmost humble opinion.
“ Advanced are basics done correct”
This is why truly appreciate your take on how you teach BJJ, as you make the curriculum extremely relatable, even to those who are just starting to venture into the world of grappling as a whole, and also delve into the self protection context of how to appropriately apply the art.
Your videos have aided me tremendously as you point out not only the techniques “ as is” but you always give away those extremely important snippets of vital information to increase the efficacy of said techniques even further. Ie “ put his pinky to his other ear” true gold right there 🤣😄👍🏻
Many teachers” show and tell” but a sign of a true teacher is that he
“ shares and expounds upon” not only knowing the why, but the how and the reason for the why.
And that is the mark of experience and comprehension, not only knowing and doing.
Appreciations for sharing your comprehended knowledge with all of us. Always looking forward to learn more from you sir. 😃

It depends, I would also add in Wrestling. So Wrestling + Jiu-Jitsu + Muay Thai = Deadly fighter.
Wrestling to defend against takedowns and to initiate and complete takedowns.
Jiu-Jitsu for all the ground game, defending against certain positions and chokes and locks while also trying to gain position and put your opponent in one.
Muay Thai for deadly fists, elbows, knees and feet and for understanding how to defend and fight in the clinch. And obviously clinch takedowns add in to wrestling as well.

    • @Mason-is4mr
      @Mason-is4mr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

shan_rocks Judo is much more helpful on takedowns than wrestling... a pro wrestler and pro judo fighter with same build will result in the wrestler getting tossed like a rag doll. Wrestling is good for control, but if you’re talking about throwing and countering throws, judo will win,

      Twice your size…
No need to exaggerate. Bigger than you, sure, fine. But not “twice your size”.
Twice your size would make it practically impossible to pull someone down and then guillotine them even if you were skilled and they were unskilled.
      Just saying…

Based on where you often find yourself and how easily accessible these submissions are (either by set ups or by virtue of position) my thought process was similar to yours: armbar, kimura, guillotine, RNC, but instead of americana I opted for arm triangle

Ex ARmy infantry, ex correctional officer, black belt in tae kwon do ( earned in korea ) so I am not oblivious to fighting but absolutley dont know how to do anything but the guard and hip escapes as far as BJJ. I got an 8x8 mat on craigslist for 40$ and a 50$ grappling dummy... i practiced all 5 submissions for 10 minutes each. I am 6 foot 3 and about 215 lbs... I feel like the reach and leverage might make up for the fact that I am 49 and a mess when it comes to cardio.

Wrestlers have the mentality of never being on their back (unlike jiu-jitsu players), which really helps when on a concrete floor or road. As an absolute beginner (4 classes in) who just drilled attempting submissions from mount, I was clueless. Had a brown belt give me both arms and I had zero idea what to do with either one. Pretty humbling. I know what the Americana is or the guillotine is, I’ve been watching mma for years. But being in the moment is an entirely different experience. Either way, I’m hooked. I should’ve watch this video before that class… I could’ve at least attempted an Americana, which is what I think he was trying to get me to do. now I’m watching all kinds of videos and can’t wait to get back in there to get humbled some more and possibly one day submit a guy better than me.

I agree with your top 5 choices; just to add some tips for newbies to play around with:
2:30 - bringing the trapped arm elbow down to your knee and you can often finish people without the paintbrush movement but if needed, makes it way tigher.
3:30 - with that particular foot position, finish from the top instead of giving up the dominant position.
3:50 - pinch your knees together to help with slack and fulcrum point.
5:51 - The demo had both kimura finishes using the arms to finish - sub should focus 100% on rotating the torso to finish. Also, for fun, ankles crossed - but focus on pinching the knees.
