Your preview of Titans game pinpointed the danger of wide out speedsters in the Titans and we lost that battle, together with ( surprisingly ) failure to dominate the middle and produce quality front foot ball. @@thewarriorholic Bellyache is a among the best ever to get a lift out of players and I know without any doubt he and others like Flanagan would have given them the spray from hell.Would it have worked? The Crusaders attribute HONESTY as the key to their success. They are honest with each other.. in particular about how well or badly they do their jobs before every game (what their goals will be for the game) and after every game (how did they individually performed). I do not blame Webby - but sure he's the coach. I think a lot of it is psychological. And maybe they need a specialist to look at that, like Gilber Enoka did for the All Blacks. By all accounts he was able to get the best out of players, by somehow getting them to step up their individual efforts.
Yeah that’s the same as the Storm. 100% honesty, every time. I have no idea where the Warriors are in terms of honesty, but I think they’ll be getting close under Webby. Have to
Fair point .In reality Webster is still a rookie coach but he is certainly an intelligent one and will learn a lot from this season. The now great Ivan Cleary went through learning pains with us to the point they bought John Hart in to help him deal with pressure / stress etc.
Man that was so deflating last week. It feels like something went down during the week when I saw Johnson and AFB on camera blowing up at team mates for errors. I'll be interested to see what difference Barnett makes to the composure of the side if things don't go well this week. I feel he's a better option for captain for the rest of the year and either him or JFH as permanent captain from next year on. Webby might be too loyal to Tohu for that which I think is at the teams detriment. If they lose to the Broncos this week then I'd like to see changes, not only for where we hope to be next year but also the last chance at making the 8 this year. So something along the lines of 1. Harris/ Capewell/ Tevaga
Mate I enjoy your positive spin but unfortunately nothing ever really changes at the Warriors. Webster has been really exposed as a coach this year. He struggles to trust young talent like a Kevin Walters does and his bench usage is the the worst in the competition. I have no doubt what so ever that he is paying the price for not giving the younger players any game time. His seniors are consistently letting him down, yet he keeps going back to them. We can hear your admiration as you rattled off the Broncos line-up. All young guns given their debuts and serious game time by Walters - who is reaping having a squad full of young x-factor players. There is no use having the pathways in place if Webster can't see the forest for the trees and begin tapping into it. Tuauapiki, MGT, Leiataua, Pasikala, Sifakula, Ale, Laban, Halasima, Stowers-Smith, Maiu'u and Makaia Taufa. There should be 3 - 4 of these guys playing NRL every week. The team is desperate for their enthusiasm, energy and X-Factor. They are winning in reserve grade, their time is now.
AFB is obviously causing a negative environment in the team, and so you don't want those younger players being influenced by him. Better to keep those younger players at a distance until AFB is gone. Those younger players are hugely influenced by players such as AFB.
@@beachforestmountain4269 Drop AFB. Him being in team is of little importance since he is off to the Sharks next year. Younger guys should now get preferential treatment over him. Why the heck would you slow their development down to accommodate a child brat like him? Id look to get a swap with him for Royce Hunt for the rest of season or drop him to reserve grade. Young guys have to play, we can't delay their development. What would the Broncos do?
@@beachforestmountain4269 So are we just writing off the season because of AFB? If AFB is that toxic then he shouldn't be in the side. Like @salestalk63 was saying 3-4 of these young guys can turn our season around, so let's get them in there. I think half the trouble is Tohu isn't a great on-field leader who has the tenacity and vocab to rally the troops when times are tough. You see the time and time again in the huddle. He says nothing and its Johnson, Egan and Barnett doing the talking. Barnett is the guy we need to take over the captaincy for the rest of the year and Fisher-Harris from next year on.
Thanks for the thoughts as always. I love that you guys take the time to share context around what you’re thinking. I’m not sure I’m trying to put a positive spin on things, my aim is to try and be balanced and realistic. I can’t understand people’s frustration and keenness to see wholesale changes, but with that comes a lot of risk. Webby’s very first message to this team when he took over was he trusted them and believed they had what it takes to win a title. Off the back of that they exceeded his expectations. His style has always been to remain calm and stick to his plan. If he started becoming reactionary and started chopping and changing I believe that would cause more half than good. If he chopped all the senior players and put the cup boys in this week and we got smoked. Where would that leave the club? The other thing to remember is shifting in to first grade can look easy for these quality players, but the first couple of months can be like a honeymoon period where the opposition don’t know much about you, and you have the fresh energy and excitement of making the team. But after a couple of months a lot of young players hit the wall, which we say from Tom Ale last year. Starting out killing it then went off the boil. I’m not saying that’s a reason not to try these guys, but I just think we need to do it in a way that maximizes their long term growth, because this group of guys in Cup right now have the potential to do amazing things over the next 5-10 years. That said, if we get smashed again this week, surely Webby had no choice but to make those tough calls. I also have my own ideas about who and what’s going wrong but they are just guesses so I’m hesitant to just throw those opinions out there and light fires when I could be completely wrong. What I wouldn’t give to spend a week in camp in order to truly understand what’s happening and what Webby’s plan is. Thanks again for your thoughts. These kind of discussion are what makes sport interesting.
@@thewarriorholic Fantastic answer and thank you for taking the time. I certainly get your points and they make sense, especially when it comes to building a culture at the club. I think however one thing that stands out about this particular Warriors side and more so as a long suffering 95'er. Is that the majority of clubs that turn around and win titles have always had 2 or 3 raw young guys given the time to prove they have got what it takes to 'be the star - to be game changers'. The Broncos over the last few years easily have over a dozen rookies with x-factor who have been blooded. And Walters continues to do that regardless of Origin. It truly is the next man up mentality we talk about here. It got them to the grand final last year and turned them around from being a wooden spoon side. The Panthers, where Ivan is more conservative have also been blooding a lot more younger players over the last 4 - 5 years. I think when I distil it down the Warriors miss genuine x-factor players who can break open a game and make it swing to the Warriors favour. We are trying to grind teams down but when those teams are up for the battle and they have the energy to match us then we don't have game breakers to keep us in the fight. The last Storm game was a perfect example of that. Loose against the Bronco's no matter the score, I'd been looking to name a team like this going forward. They will win you more games than they lose. I know there are injuries to some players that may interfere. 1. Taine Tuaupiki (X-Factor) 2. DWZ 3. MGT (X-Factor) 4. RTS (Competes with Berry for 1 spot) 5. Ali Leiataua (X-Factor) (WEAPON) 6. CNK (Changes the game more from Stand off - more directly involved and runs better lines - Competes with Metcalf) 7. TMM (Competes with Luke Hanson) 8. AFB (If bad attitude then drop and bring in Maui'u). (X-Factor) 9. Wayde Egan 10. Jackson Ford 11. Mitch Barnett 12. Marata Niukore (Competes with Leka Halasima) (X-Factor) 13. Kurt Capewell 14. Dylan Walker (Lock/Hooker/Stand off cover) 15. Jacob Laban (Interchange with Niukore) 16. Demetric Sifakula (Interchange with AFB) (X-Factor) 17. Tom Ale (Interchange with Barnett/Ford) Next man up injuries - Sio Kali (Centre/Wing) (X-Factor) - Motu Paskila (Wing/Fullback (X-Factor) - Ben Farr (Utility) - Makaia Tafua (Hooker) - Leka Halasima (Second Rower/Competes with Niukore/Laban - Also game day cover centre) (WEAPON) - Zyon Maiu'u (Prop) (X-Factor) - Tanner Stowers-Smith (Prop) (Industrious) I have said goodbye to a few players. They offer service and the odd good moment but for me they are no longer leaders in their positions and I can't guarantee them any game time going forward. Free to find another club if they can. - Tohu Harris (He's done. Not the same player). - Jazz Tevaga (Has heart and brings the fight but he's too inconsistent and his positive impact on the game is much less these days. Can't justify taking a young guns place on my roster and I have experience in JFH, Capewell and Barnett). - Bunty Afoa - Freddy Lussick - Adam Pompey (Potentially unlucky but lacks speed to be a centre and much better prospects in the second row coming through) - Marcelo Montoya - Shaun Johnson
Your analogy was perfectly put and made a lot of sense. Ive been in that position myself where you're with the boys and everything is clicking and you're having a good time, and then the novelty wears off and you end up getting on each others nerves and almost hate each other for a moment. But then there is always that recalibration, where you have felt the good, the bad, and the ugly and then the relationship equilibrates. Hopefully the boys end up at that point before the season falls too far behind, all in. UP the Wahs In terms of the team picked..Im fine with everyone, though I would rather someone in for Lussick, but why is DWalker there! He is an amazing player when he's fit but he is clearly badly injured :S I heard from somewhere that he gets injections in his ankles to play every week. That one is puzzling and disappointing
Yeah I wonder how Walker does eh. Those ankles look in bad shape. I guess it’s something that he needs surgery to fix so he’s just playing through. Hope it’s something he can get right at some point. Agree we need him at full strength
Yeah, I reckon fans have every right to share frustration, but it's not cool when people go too far and make personal attacks on the boys. In the interview I did with Ed Kosi he spoke about how heart breaking it was for him to see his family get so much shit because of that tough game he had against the Storm in 2022...Having seen how my son got bullied when we first moved to NZ, I would never wish that on anyone..In my son's case he learnt kick boxing and then knocked out one of the bullies.. unfortunately pro sport people don't have that luxury. That said, I'd love to see some of these fans have the balls to walk up to AFB in a dark ally and say some of the stuff they say about him and his wife to his face.
Well said about Shauny 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I wonder how the trolls would like it if 100's or 1000's of complete strangers started rubbishing them all over social media and calling for them to leave their livelihood for something else? Win or lose, I just want to see a hearty as FULL 80 mins. The boys are looking more gassed than last year, and I don't think it's all due to the extra pressure we put on ourselves during games atm. Early in the season, we looked less fit than last year and pretty tired for some reason 🤷🏾♂️. I also hope the 2nd or 3rd man in consistently wrap up the footy carrying arm to nullify the offloading globetrotter game that the Broncos would love to play against us. Zane, don't worry about not getting a review out for the Titans game bro. The performance didn't warrant one really. Flush that and reset. I don't know how you find the time to pump out the content that you do, but I know you're well appreciated 🤝🏾. You obviously have a very understanding and supportive Mrs. like myself, so kudos to Mrs. Warriorholic 👏🏾😂😜
Thanks brother 🙏🏻 I’m lucky that I have spare time when I’m in NZ, I get really busy when I’m in Japan but not too bad when I’m home so I can usually balance the work family and the poddy.
I posted this on another League platform but will repeat. The famous Forrest Gump adage applies here ie, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get" Maybe that's a part of the Warriors appeal,- they get knocked down, they get up again. I can't work it out, but they do it often, so that's gotta be all good.
Thanks for sharing. All sport is up and down eh, even follow the ABs at their peak they still managed to let us down at times. Just part of being a sports fan
There's supposedly a cutoff date for when a team can sign new players for the current season, and it's June 30th. So maybe Webby was holding on to AFB until that date so he can't play for the Sharks this season. AFB could be trying to get himself released before June 30th, and maybe that's why he didn't go to the post-match celebration after the Panthers game, and also why he didn't shake hands with all the players after the Titans game - to try to get Webby to release him. To me, the problems this season look like they are caused by low morale and toxicity within the social construct of the team. You can see it before the game, during the game, and after the game. If this is all true, then I would expect to see AFB either get released after June 30th, or significantly up his game after that date. And if this is true, I think it could have been a bad judgement call by Webby, because the season has basically been destroyed by the low morale. But it would be a very difficult call for a coach to make.
@@thewarriorholic Yeah mate, there's no way of knowing what's really going on. But what we do know is that AFB didn't go to the post-match celebration after the Panthers win. That shows a toxicity coming from him, so that's what we do know for certain. And he also declined to shake hands of the Warriors and the Panthers after the match last week, so that's more toxicity to add into the mix.
If it is sailor at fullback they should target him with high balls he had a poor game last out couple dropped balls. Be good to see Rodger play both sides float around go after the ball get him self involved more. I think Afb maybe has one foot out the door can see the top 8 spot slipping away and not riding the same high as last year. It's reported he's committed till the end but feel webby should hook him if he doesn't deliver this week he bounced back last time he was dropped.
Love your enthusiasm, but I've seen it all over the last 29 years: Warriors will struggle to get within 20 points. Season is gone and AFB wants an exit. If it's another hammering, Webster should bring all those talented cup boys up the following week. Anyway, hope I'm wrong, but can't see them winning this game.
Would love to hear your honest thoughts, there’s a reason captain mannering doesn’t have any friendship with SJ! You must have heard the rumours about that
tuapiki full back ,cnk6, tmm7,roach hooker, unpredictable, the team that beat panthers etc,no sj ,no rts ,predictable , evreything evolves around sj ,gunshy ,never gets tackled, was great, now predictable and gunshy
Unfortunately Roache is out until about R20 from memory. The other key point to consider, is our backs can only deliver off a solid platform that is going forward. I feel like the forwards really stepped up and laid the platform in the games that TMM was 7. I just hope people don't start giving him shit when he has rough games because out forwards don't step up.

1. Taine Tuaupiki (X-Factor)
2. DWZ
3. MGT (X-Factor)
4. RTS (Competes with Berry for 1 spot)
5. Ali Leiataua (X-Factor) (WEAPON)
6. CNK (Changes the game more from Stand off - more directly involved and runs better lines - Competes with Metcalf)
7. TMM (Competes with Luke Hanson)
8. AFB (If bad attitude then drop and bring in Maui'u). (X-Factor)
9. Wayde Egan
10. Jackson Ford
11. Mitch Barnett
12. Marata Niukore (Competes with Leka Halasima) (X-Factor)
13. Kurt Capewell
14. Dylan Walker (Lock/Hooker/Stand off cover)
15. Jacob Laban (Interchange with Niukore)
16. Demetric Sifakula (Interchange with AFB) (X-Factor)
17. Tom Ale (Interchange with Barnett/Ford)
Next man up injuries
- Sio Kali (Centre/Wing) (X-Factor)
- Motu Paskila (Wing/Fullback (X-Factor)
- Ben Farr (Utility)
- Makaia Tafua (Hooker)
- Leka Halasima (Second Rower/Competes with Niukore/Laban - Also game day cover centre) (WEAPON)
- Zyon Maiu'u (Prop) (X-Factor)
- Tanner Stowers-Smith (Prop) (Industrious)
I have said goodbye to a few players.
- Bunty Afoa
- Freddy Lussick
- Adam Pompey (Potentially unlucky but lacks speed to be a centre and much better prospects in the second row coming through)
- Marcelo Montoya
- Shaun Johnson
Which team will turn up the wahs or the warriors, we were once a warriors one point of time ,Webbe we just
Yeah all we can do now is win. Gottta get these wins every week 💚💙❤️
That’s why you don’t change a winning team… unless absolutely necessary
Yeah not sure it’s always that simple, but I think you could say that about certain combinations eh
UP the Wahs
In terms of the team picked..Im fine with everyone, though I would rather someone in for Lussick, but why is DWalker there!
Be kind. Up the wahs! #OnToTheNext
Brilliant and well said!
I’ve run all kinds of theories through my mind by we may never know what happened this year. Maybe someone gives up some info in a book one day😅
@@thewarriorholic Yeah mate, there's no way of knowing what's really going on.
They did a pretty good job on him last night eh. He calved us up in Napier last year from memory
Only time will tell, but this weeks game will be a huge indicator as to where we can turn it around 💚💙❤️
Would love to hear your honest thoughts, there’s a reason captain mannering doesn’t have any friendship with SJ! You must have heard the rumours about that
At the end of the day, a lot of top performance athletes have special personalities… you have to be special to put yourself through what they do..
Not all players get on well bro - move on.
Yer bro not much to say just move foward.
We took a good step not to maintain the momentum
tuapiki full back ,cnk6, tmm7,roach hooker, unpredictable, the team that beat panthers etc,no sj ,no rts ,predictable , evreything evolves around sj ,gunshy ,never gets tackled, was great, now predictable and gunshy
