I see a lot of people talking about the SCAR killing optics. I have an EOTech EXPS3 Holographic sight on my SCAR 17. I have put over 1000 rounds through it now with the EOTech on it and my EOTech has not lost its zero once. So…I don’t know about this whole “SCAR destroys optics” thing. Seems like people have had that happen….but it also seems like it could be a mount issue. I have a QD lever mount on the EXPS3 and it holds true. Invest in a quality mount and make sure it’s lock tight. As for your optic choices, I truly believe you have more options than a $2,000 ELCAN or a $2,500 Night Force. My close shooting buddy has an EOTech VUDU LPVO on his SCAR 17 and it has functioned flawlessly through over 3000 rounds.
Despite a few minor cons the Scar h aka 12 has many pros and if u look info about them its not just because the military used it but because of its function and how practical it is.. not to mention its iconic and sexy bad ass gun... honestly for my first AR this is def gonna be the first one i buy the second AR will most like be 300 black out or a classic Q honey badger.
Honestly, best buy in most collections. You waited at the right time. No more reciprocal charging handle. Its expensive because its reliable. That plastic doesn’t rust, is ballistic proof. You can replace the lower with an aluminum one from Handl, spelled correctly.
Four months late, but congrats. My Cousin has one and I shot it. It has a pretty good kick to it, because of the plastic that is on it. They are sweet rifles, yet it is true, they are over priced. If they weren't I would buy one. Any who, cheers have fun, and stay safe.
Awesome purchase and in 308...even better. I always wanted the heavy version with the option to change barrels for less expensive bullet launching..lol. Nice dog and battle wagon! Great video and your spouse is a very fortunate person, a couple that loves firearms is a beautiful relationship.
I love my scar 17! Eotech Vudu 1-8 with scalaworks mount. Its my favorite rifle hands down. Wish mine had the NRCH but it’s whatever I can live without it
The thing cost more than my car. With that price tag, FN should include a good trigger from the factory. Congratulations on your purchase! One day it'll be mines also! God bless. ❤️
Its a combat rifle first and foremost, not a sniping rifle. A slightly heavier trigger is better under the stress of combat when you lose fine motor skills and likely to mash the trigger.
As of October 2023 the Scar-17S NRCH is selling at most major retailers for $3,749.99, I ordered one last week and it should be here by tomorrow, with shipping it came to a total of $3,779.99, I live in AZ and it’s coming from NC, they didn’t charge sales tax, not sure if they will charge tax later or if I just got lucky….. #BuyOnceCryOnce #BuyTwiceCryTwice 😭 😭

I would never say overpriced…. Pricey? Yes. But never overpriced for something so spectacular. My favorite rifle of all time!!! That is a great pick up!
Considering that , even after over a decade, you get an average trigger, crappy A2 pistol grip, the same damn old nose heavy handguard without even an option for an M-lok one from factory, and a stock that is often almost immediately replaced with an ACR style stock, it is definitely overpriced. They didn't even fix the reciprocating charging handle quirk till recently. The Scar-L were heavier than the M4 without offering any significant advantage, so military flat out dropped them. THE SCAR-H stayed in service longer and was reasonably light up until AR10 patterned rifles finally caught up in terms of reliability. Now the Army is using the M110 SASS and phasing out the SCAR-H. It also doesn't help that you need to be absolutely sure that you have the correct optics and mount along with ensuring they are installed correctly, otherwise there is a good chance that the rifle will destroy the optic. That is just far too many quirks and far too much basic furniture to drop 4 grand on. It is without a doubt one of the most overpriced rifles ever made. Sure, it is reasonably reliable and definitely accurate. But finding reliable/accurate rifles these days aren't exactly a rarity. Even some affordable rifles can boast those same two qualities. In short, it is absolutely overpriced.
Coolest thing about the scar is that internal parts breakage is basically non-existent on SCARs. Of course it still wears on certain parts but its nothing regular maintenance won't address. The least cool thing is how it has a reputation of being unfriendly to optics, but I think that was more of an issue with early EOTech 512s having bad battery mounting and some cheaper optics not being all that well made.
Congratulations on your 17s👍 picked up one at my local gun dealer in Hawaii for $3700. Saving up for a nightforce atacr 1x8 . looking forward to see what optic you are getting. Liked &Subscribed
Congrats! You may or may not know this already but a lot of even "high quality" glass dies on top of the SCAR 17. The upper acts like a big tuning fork and transmits a lot of the recoil into whatever optic is mounted up top. There are only a few optics which can survive long term up there, one I'd recommend is the Elcan Specter. Nice that you got the FDE version :) Congrats again!
@@808INFantry11X We have the current SCAR model which has the non-reciprocating charging handle. Read that due to less moving parts it may be softer on optics, but time will tell.
@@Aventura.out. you’re definitely right about that. Also those rumors came from the military, they shot it full auto and that what was killing optics. I really don’t see why the scar would be harder on optics than any other rifle besides the charging handle.
There's plenty of optics in the $400 range that work great. Primary Arms SLX Gen3 to name one that's SCAR proof. 👌 Getting into Elcans and you're paying for a reticle essentially. Great, great optics. But nothing an EOTECH Vudu won't do, at a much better price point. 🤜🤛
I run the ACOG on mine. If you decide to run a scope, DO NOT use a cantilever mount. Something along the lines of a Spuhr mount keeps the optics alive. As light as this rifle is, you will find it also very light recoiling. Congratulations!
@@Aventura.out. That’s the one I use. TA11H-308. The eye relief is great. I can shorten the buttstock all the way, or extend it all the way with no issues. Eye relief on this one is way more than the specs say. The 4X models eye relief sucks. You really have to be sucked up on that one. I believe y’all are in the Yakima area? If y’all are ever on the westside, y’all are welcome to try mine out before spending the money on those optics. $$$$ lol.
On another note, the standard AR15 sight tool doesn’t work on the front sight. Get the Troy Industries Battle Sight AR15 tool which is just a long slim piece without the big knurled end. It’s long enough and slim enough to adjust the front sight if need be. Mine needed adjusting.

I hope to get a SCAR or even just get to fire someone else's someday, I've heard nothing other than great things about them. Except some reporting that SCAR's are hard on scopes/optics.
Hey just so you know, if you have the non-reciprocating version you should be fine with the optics. I mean I haven’t put thousands of rounds through it, but for the most part rumors die hard. I think that the military was going through optics a lot, so everybody just started repeating that rumor. The non-reciprocating versions fire and shooting semi auto shouldn’t do any more damage than an AK for example.

FDE is a very popular color. I have mine from DD it’s an M4A1. You do have a very cool looking gun. But I’m just not a fan of a big size rifle just a little bigger than the AR15. But it’s still nice, I just prefer the AR platform.
The controls are very much a clone of the AR. The original DoD bid was for a possiblen replacement for the M4 so FN designed it to be easy to transition over. The SCAR 16 was good but not good enough to spend hundreds of millions to replace millions of M4s. The 17 however is issued to Ranger and Special Forces units where it has been well received for the most part.
@@Aventura.out. Trijjicon ACOG is about the only thing I could keep on the one I was issued.......bulletproof and holds zero. And great quality glass with a huge sight picture.

8 pounds is not bad at all. Try humping a 40 pound pack and an 11 pound rifle plus 250 rounds of ammo. A 100 round magazine will weight you down quite a bit. It's better to carry 5 magazines for that 100 rounds (5x 20 rounds per magazine) as you can spread out that weight on a plate carrier or tac vest or battle belt instead of focusing the weight in your arms to carry.

I love how some/most of the story applies to the husband but since it’s “her” channel she adds it to her own story haha
Hehe, I got into guns during the beginning of the pandemic. I was introduced to healthy, outdoor activities such as this!
congrats,
When you coming back?
Back !
I remember buying mine for 2900 but that was a long time ago.
I go iron and was hitting at 100 yards.

Oh baby you are so beautiful! 😍 yes I’m talking about the Rifle lol! You guys are ok too 😁 keep up the great work!
lol! The SCAR is definitely a beaut.
Congrats on the Scar .........hope you can keep an optic on that thing they eat everything.
Thanks! Researching on an appropriate optic for it.
@@Aventura.out. Trijjicon ACOG is about the only thing I could keep on the one I was issued.......bulletproof and holds zero. And great quality glass with a huge sight picture.
Would love to have one but the price!!
Hi, where can I buy it? Thanks
your bank account must be hurting lol, but worth!
It was a definitely "ouch!"
Nice 4runner!
I agree with her the gun is not worth nowhere near $4k. I got 2 scar 17's one in black and fde i just bought them cause they were deals that came about that couldnt be passed on at the time but i would definatley not pay $4k for one today. I got both of mines for $2800 each a few years ago and ive shot the black one quite a bit and its good but i can tell u right now its not worth nowhere near $4k. I kept the black one and ened up flipping the fde one just because im not a fan of the color i just bought it cause it was a deal and i knew i could flip it and sell for a profit.
The mags are pricey also.
Yeah, it is at most a $2500-$2600 gun at most but due to the crazy market and inflation...
@@taze27 back when i bought proprietary mags for my scar 17 they were going for $39.99 on gunmag warehouse so i ordered 30 but with todays prices and bidens gun control threats i could only imagine how much they cost now probably $100 per mag.
@@Aventura.out. true. As for inflation fn is insane especially for them to be charging that much with a cheap ass wonky plastic stock and lower and standard ass a2 pistol grip they pretty much ass raping consumers with a smile on there face. Do i own a scar 17? Yes but that was only cause i came across a deal on it and got lucky for $2800 but i dont support slimy companys like FN.
@@taze27 $50 is not bad at all. I paid that much for each FN FNX .45 mag and I bought 10 of those. Same price for HK VP9 mags and I bought 10 of them. Now I have 10 SCAR magas. $50 bucks is what I pay fir Wilson Combat 1911 mags and I have some 30 of them.
I want to see a review of the dog.
Where did you purchase the scar
Scar 17: 3200
Scar 15: 3900. And in 5.56
I know where my cash would go.
Looks like a great gun.would you ever buy if it's legal were u are a 100 round magazine? Pretty heavy tho
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Although the Scar 17 is a great rifle, $4000 for it is a rip off IMHO. Mine costed $2500 back then.
That’s not fair you’re speaking in past tense. Gas was around $2 then too. I bet ya still get fuel
Nice 5th Gen 4runner also btw. 😅
my favourite gun
I want to live in USA after watching this. Sucks to live in Australia.
$4000 toy 😹 so is this your FAVORITE gun now? Also that ugg boots look is what got me liking it 😜
Favorite only because of the cute Ugg boot!
