Ben Folds was the most critical judge, but he knew that Pentatonix was talented enough to handle it. The Sing Off was like a cappella college for them. They incorporated what they picked up from the show and became a better band for it.
When they perform in the Sing Off I always hold my breath, feel a little sick to my stomach and hope they do well, even though I know they win the whole thing😂❤ I think they really listened to the judges every week and applied the feedback to their performances. I also love seeing them from the beginning of Pentatonix ( the 3 had sang together but not all 5 until this contest)You can see how much raw talent they had and how determined and supportive they were to each other. They really wanted this! It also gives a base for Pentaholics to know a sound in a video or a song is really them because they were ping them from the beginning. There was no post production or adding/ editing anything. I love your reactions and I am so glad you are doing this Make sure to watch where they win it all!
I love watching these old videos. Watching it live was a treat. It was just so exciting each week to see what they were going to do. Acapella was just starting to become popular and PTX had such a fresh approach and were getting better each week.
I am old enough that I saw this when it originally aired. PTX was definitely in my top 2, but they did have some competition. Once it got to a certain point, PTX earned my top spot and stayed there. I wish entire episodes were still available to re-watch in good quality. I think the opening numbers are available online somewhere. Those were often fantastic. Group numbers with a large number of great acapella singers can really wow you. With this particular performance, I did like the "going crazy" remix part best of all. I didn't particularly love the song itself, but PTX often makes me like songs that I previously didn't. I love the Sing-Off journey. Looking forward to the continuation.
Love that you're doing the Sing-Off journey! And doing them in order showcases their growth from week to week. To watch their faces as they absorb every comment from the judges and apply it to future performances proves how committed, serious and professional they are even at their very young ages. Never was a big Kesha fan, but always enjoyed Pentatonix arrangements each week. Upcoming episodes #7, #10 and #12 are fan favorites and hint at all the great things to come, but watching them grow and work together to achieve their dreams is the real gift. Great reaction! Keep 'em coming! Thank you!
I so love how they take a song and re-engineer it! You should check out their performances on The Masked Singer as California Rolls…just a warning that it is 15 minutes.
This was the only time they had even a little criticism. By the time they made it a little more than half way it was apparent who was going to win. Everyone else was playing for second.
Love the Sing Off performances! Crazy how good they were from the start at such a young age. Also worth adding to the end of the list is a Superfruit video they did several years after reacting to some Sing Off clips.
Yes this is Baby Tonix. Nearly midniht but couldn't resist. Tx Saeed. Mitch, Scott and Kirstie was 19 years old. You are appreciated. Greetings from South Africa
Hello Meg! Hope you are well! I am enjoying this journey. Today i got a Superfruit reaction and tomorrow the 3rd performance on the Sing Off competition 😃
Looking forward to taking this journey with you Saeed lol. This would be one of my least fav performances. For some reason Scott used to annoy me lol. I slowly fell in love with Avi and wanted to see him given more of a role....but that's just my opinion. Keven and Avi shared an apartment and really 'honed' their skills and did write a few songs together... Great analysis on this too Saeed.
Thanks Saeed - this one was not one of my favs, but perhaps because I'm not familiar with Kesha. Lots of good stuff to come, thanks for taking the journey! ☮
Way back when I first watched the Sing-Off performances on Prime in 2013, I couldn't figure out what Ben and Shawn were talking about with "applying a melody at the top" and Kesha "sing-talks" and Scott's beautiful singing is "a blessing and a curse." I don't object that the judges criticize the performances; that's their job! But I couldn't figure it out. Once I watched Kesha's original version, I understood. She really does talk through the verses of the song--not exactly rap, but rhythmic talking, NOT singing. Scott actually invented a melody to sing. It's not there in the original. PTX didn't break any rules, exactly, but I can understand why people might disagree with that choice. Ben did seem to disagree, but still praised them for having the courage to try something different. Compared to comments the judges made about the other groups, they were actually quite gentle with Pentatonix.
They had to have a lead singer "Scott" and second "Kirstie". The others had to be more background. Later on in the competition they were told rein Mitch back. Mitch was openly out at the time and the producers didn't want that highlighted. However, in the last performance the group let Mitch loose and we got the first Mitch slap.
I feel what you said about having a niche and then branching out from it and it is the same with streaming. I stream on Twitch, mostly Dead by Daylight game, I've tried to play other games I like, like World of Warcraft, 7 Days to Die, Sims, and others but I notice I get way more viewers if I play DbD so it is, like you said, kind of hard if you don't have that following to branch out from the 'safety' of what got you your audience! This is one of the only times, I feel like, where Mitch was picked out to give some recognition in this show. They producers, I've heard, were really worried about their 'image' and didn't want Mitch to be flamboyant or bring up anything to do with his sexuality - they had told him to 'be more masc' and discouraged him from using his full talents and range. You'll notice much of the higher registers shown in this series is from Kirstie and Scott because they wanted like a 'lead singer' kind of thing and Scott was so much more presentable (no one knew his sexuality), they even didn't mention during one of the later parts of the show, their was a charity who was featured called the Trevor Project and they help LGBTQ youth with battling suicide. No mention of it being a queer organization despite it being their focus; they just stated that it was a charity that helps youth suicide or whatever. Though there is a performance that we see a little glimmer of the Mitch to come in a first ever 'mitch slap', can't wait for you to get to it! So much of the attention seems to be heaped on Scott, Avi and Kevin. The guy from Boyz To Men is the OG Scott fan! lol
Its not easy branching out. I feel that. Wow, i hear a lot of those stories where people get told to act more "masculine". I hope that got a little better in recent times. Looking forward to the first Mitch Slap 😅 Thanks for watching!
I really like this performance. But according to the Judges, this was their worst performance. They criticized PTX really hard in this one (most of the Judges' comments were not aired, but you can see some at the beginning of Performance 4).

Can't wait for you to react to performances 7, 10 and 12!

Totally get that! You still want them to do good even though you already know the outcome 😅
Looking forward to the next one. Thanks for watching.

That feeling of looking forward to each new episode! Awesome!

They definitely have knack for making me like a song more than the original 😅
Excited for the next performance. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for doing the Sing Off performances. You can hear them get better and better.
Looking forward to all of them!

I’m so excited for you to watch all of the sing off videos!
Looking forward to the next one. 😃
Always love revisiting the Sing off run
Did you know that Kevin arrived at the competition a day before the audition. Amazing
Wow!
I so love how they take a song and re-engineer it! You should check out their performances on The Masked Singer as California Rolls…just a warning that it is 15 minutes.
Well put!
Definitely want to check that one out too at some point.
It's stunning that they can always pull a surprise with what they do, continually!!!!
This was the only time they had even a little criticism.

Definitely need to see that after these performances 😃

Wow, so young! Amazing. Thanks for watching. Greetings from Belgium.
Definitely excited for this journey! It's always a blast seeing reactors experience the origin of PTX!
Worked for me...but I do appreciate that the judges can give constructive criticism without demoralizing them.
Awesome - Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching!
The self confidence and self discovery of his total capacity for Mitch start growing here. ❤C
Thats beautiful.
I'm loving this. This is so fun to watch. I hope you have a great day. I can't wait for the next Pentatonix reaction.
I have one more coming later today 😃. Thanks so much for watching.
They were so good from the very beginning...but their growth is apparent if you go back to their first songs. Kiss From A Rose blew me away.
Hello Saeed. Love the PTX Sing Off journey. Thank you.
Hello Meg! Hope you are well! I am enjoying this journey. Today i got a Superfruit reaction and tomorrow the 3rd performance on the Sing Off competition 😃
@@SaeedReacts. Excellent! Looking forward to these. Thanks Saeed.

I really like this performance.

I actually like Pentatonix' versions better than originals.
Can't wait until you get to my favorite from this show, it's insane! I'm not saying the name but I can watch it over and over. See you soon!
