I had to stop the video to make this comment. I feel similar to you about the country. I love it…. I moved from a large regional city to live with family on their country property about 18months ago. I am 70, do not drive, and whilst there are family members happy to take me where I need to go….well…..I am getting older and my health won’t be good forever, plus I miss having the shopping centre just a walk away, and my local library, eye specialist, my doctor, chemist, pathology, bus at the door, and access to senior citizens groups and free activities in the community, my knitting club etc., I am moving back to town at the end of the month. Folks have this romantic idea of living in the countryside. Its fine while you are young and have a car. Once needing services such as doctor, dentist, schools, library, hardware shop, etc. Once you dont have a car - you are scuppered! The Foodbank I volunteer for delivers to some very lonely older ill people who moved into romantic villages when they were fit and able in their late 50s and 60s. Dont do it, folks! Like Vivi - plan for increasing lack of mobility. I bought a courtyard garden, within ( currently) walking distance of the supermarket, doctors, library etc. When i get older still taxis to such places will be not too expensive. Currently i am so blessed - a half hour walk and I am by the sea! Vivi is really thinking this through. 😎
Lovely visit and informative. I keep praying for an affordable place with a back garden for you. Selfishly I want to watch you create a new garden space of your own with your personality and watch your joy as each new creation comes to life.
We are all different Vivi, the thought of living in a town or city i just couldn't cope with, i love the peace and quiet being near the sea and the clean air but i do have a car which i would not want to be without. Good luck for the future x
Carrying fuel for a fire up 60 stairs 😱 We can’t wait to share your excitement in the new place and we will all be sad to say goodbye to your cottage in the sky!
Hi Vivi. Great video. Your answers have painted a lovely picture. I can't wait for you to get your surgery in time, heal up nicely and get to enjoy your garden again with your possible, future dog. I can picture it now with you dining alfresco in the garden with your pup begging for a nibble. How magical! As I mentioned I just finished up moving my dad In my home a few months ago. I have my little Chihuahua, my dad's big Rhodesian Ridgeback and our combined kitties. It's a house full of our fur babies and fur balls. Lol. My garden is starting to regain its once beautiful glory, little by little but all in time. I'm so happy for you and your new chapter.
Giddy and emotional video. Yet so exciting for new knees and a new home with new adventures. I'm very excited for you. I know my move made me very happy 😊❤😊 xx
From a manifestation perspective, Vivi, I just KNOW you’ll get EXACTLY what you want in your new home because you’re envisioning it so vividly and WITH HAPPINESS. Listen to Abraham Hicks on this and I look forward to joining you via your French doors onto the “sunken courtyard” of your back garden. 🙏🏻
Very elucidating vid, Vivi. Was Charlotte Brontë an Irish Wolfie? I can picture you with one! My boy is a Portuguese Water Dog (Portie). He’s in his final months. I thought I could muster Army nurse stoicism faced with his demise after nearly 15 yrs companionship. No way. I’m a sentimental mess, loving him more & more each day and frightened to death at the thought of his absence. Tears (I’ve needed a cathartic flood) as I write…. I don’t know yet if I’ll open my heart to another dog…a warm beating heart at the footboard, a welcome every time you come home. Probably. In time. They are the most incredible creatures. The best thing humans ever did…domesticating dogs. ❤to all the 🐾🐕🦺lovers out there.
Ach, I totally feel for you and get you! I knew the end was coming with Charlotte so made sure to spend as much time together as possible.......all our fave walks....fave people......once last visit to the beach. I wish you love and strength in your days ahead with your Portie. XXXX More of Charlotte Bronte in the next vid............I love my big hounds with scraggy fur!
I'm a couple of days late watching thanks to shift work. You are absolutely making the right move looking for a ground floor flat (or maybe in a block of flats if it comes with a lift and a decent balcony for a small garden?). I've grown veges in pots on my door steps in many rentals with no garden space. Spinach and tomatoes were always my two essentials. None of us know what the future will bring. I have had two significant back injuries, one of them was simply twisting slightly wrong while picking something light up from the floor. With both of them I could not have managed stairs. Hopefully the knees will be the only severe health issue you ever have to face, but life is unpredictable and as we age we don't bounce back as well. I can't wait to see what your new abode will be and then watch you create a home and hopefully a garden. As you say, it will be a new adventure and I love the way you are embracing the change.
The fire Service wouldn't approve for us to have a stair lift in our second story flat as we had a neighbour on first floor and they said it would be restrictive. It was just two straight flights of steps and the neighbour didn't mind. So no chance they would approve one for your building
Interesting what you said about actors speaking with accent or without. I have been to an open air theatre in Penzance some days ago, Romeo and Juliet. The actress who played Juliet was from Scotland and talked in her own accent. I liked it a lot because the accent underlined her confidence and strength. .
I live in a bungalow in a very small city, about 10 minutes walk from the centre and it’s perfect - if I walk in the other three directions, I am more or less in the countryside and about an hours walk from the sea. I can’t drive but I think it would make a big difference, but I don’t have good enough eyesight. I grow flowers in pots out front, but the back is tiny and there’s just enough room for the bins.
@@billiebluesheepie2907 me too I’ve recently moved from midlands down to Somerset I’m a mile from nearest town and sea in a bungalow with a smallish back garden I don’t regret it a bit the only regret I’ve got is why I didn’t do it sooner I’ve got everything I need all on my doorstep even a big enough supermarket
Hi Vivi, both my children were bought up in a small Dorset village. They enjoyed the lifestyle and freedoms as children out and about with friends and riding their ponies. As soon as as they left home for uni, they headed for the biggest cities they could and that suited them both for uni and subsequent work opportunities. I think you are very sensible to want to live within reach of services and help should you need it. Here’s to a lovely ground floor flat with a garden and some new knees. It’s exciting to think of all the changes and challenges ahead. Take care Vivi. Xxx
Vivi, I grew up with dogs and owning my own forever home I've now got one. Actually, she's my sixth. I adopt older dogs and the turnover is ... relatively rapid I suppose, but it's worth it every time. There are thousands of dogs that need homes, some of them need masses of exercise, some just want to sleep in the garden, what they all need is a home. The thing that would, I think, kill me is having a dog from a puppy and at some point having to make the one way trip to the vet (or have the vet come here) for the final visit. I can do most things, but I don't think I'd survive that. This way, I know it's going to happen, and all I have to do is make the dog's final years, however many that may be, as happy as possible. When the time comes, and I always know for a couple of months when it's happening, I can prepare myself for it. As soon as it does I start looking for the next dog, because it's the only way I can cope with having to say goodbye. There have been some where saying goodbye hasn't been as heart-breaking as others, but I'd give anything to have Honey Bear and Kelpie back. They were very, very special. There will always be special dogs waiting for someone to give them their forever home.
I’ve always fancied Scarborough. You can get a lovely terraced house for amazing prices. There’s the sea and you can get a train to York. Lovely countryside and friendly Northerners.
Thanks for answering my question, I really don't think that you're asking much with those two deal breakers, I hope you find what you're looking for soon after you put yours on the market and sell 🤞🤞
I live in a village but very close to big towns. There are frequent buses and a station to get further afield. I have had gardens and allotments for 50 years and have recently moved to smaller house with a paved back garden. I’m gradually making it into something attractive. I’ve had one hip replacement and might need another. I’ve lost 2 inches in height .
Thank you for answering my question about your fireplace. I initially thought it was ornamental until you were on the roof and mentioned the chimney so it made me wonder. I’m with you on doing our part for quality air. I’ve lived in big cities, like San Francisco and on poor air quality days I always felt crummy. I adore camping so I head to the mountains for an occasional camp fire. Vivi if you ever get an inkling that you would enjoy a trip across the pond, I’d love to share beautiful California with you 😊 mi casa es su casa
You can have a woodburning stove in a smokefree area, but they are expensive and have to meet stringent emission regulations. We fortunately bought a house with one in and we love it.
Vivi, I'm vaguely familiar with London architecture from just a few visits, so perhaps my question doesn't make sense. But have you thought about broadening your house search to include newer construction - with a lift? I know you don't have a garden then (a balcony at most), but maybe you'd go back to having an alottement after your knee surgery? Hugs, as usual - you're beautiful in such vibrant colours. Pink for all the girls (and boys!)!!! 💪💕
Hi Vivi, I'm one of those that asked you about London smog. I saw them in 1961. We have pretty stringent rules about burning things here in California too. We just had to get rid of our chimney because it was starting to fall down and it would have been horrendously expensive to fix it and then we could hardly use it.
Eek, yes, very expensive......in a previous home we had to take the chimney down......cost a fortune but I saved and cleaned all the bricks and used them to pave the patio. 😊
Yes, we enjoy our local facilities in a small city suburb close to our hospital, doctors, shopping centre but we need one car to get around. We have a small high set house on 1000m2 garden block (think house set on columns, we are in the dry tropics) So we have 11 steps to get upstairs, but have built a large enclosed patio downstairs we use all the time. No animals any more, so expensive. Good luck with your house hunting!
Hi Vivi! Oh I agree about the knees. I had knee surgery, and we have 4 levels of house. (Not a massive luxury house…tri-level thst we’re working on…constantly. LOL) It would DEFINITELY have made a difference were we on 1 level. You are SO right to not have any fixed notions on your future flat. Except…one level & possible garden area ALL YOURS! 😁
I really hope you find something fabulous! If you can bare to come up North I can heartily recommend my neck of the woods, Newcastle upon Tyne. Fabulous arty community, plenty going on for most interests and the beaches and countryside a 20min bus/metro/train ride away.....and you could really do well with your London bubble sale. Oh and the hospitals are pretty good too. xx
Vivi I really enjoyed this format of incorporating comments into a Q & A . It’s nice to categorize subjects into a conversation. Very natural . . I must say I’m totally alone as well . Closest family are 1 1/2 hours away and friends have retired and moved away …I know just how you feel ! I often wonder what I’d do if I broke a leg or something equally debilitating and I live in a ground floor apt… too bad we cannot look after each other!! You must do what is comfortable to live with …Marilyn ❤xx
Hello dear Vivi! Great video and interesting questions asked too. I shall certainly wish you every success in finding a suitable street level period ground floor flat with a garden for growing veggies and plants in which will be entered into from French doors! Big hugs from the Norfolk Broads!
I do hope that new home for you will soon be on the horizon. Probably not easy finding a ground floor flat with a garden in London, but I am sure one is waiting for you!!
Vivi you already answered my random question “do you like radishes? “No”. I am a hybrid city gal as well, need urban as well as wilderness to be happy. Thanks for the chat. 🌟❤️
Last Friday I went out with friends to Hebden Bridge, Kirby Lonsdale , Devils bridge... absoluteley gorgeous drive, however, no real shopping areas... nothing for miles...we lost phone signals a few times in the hills. loads of for sale notices... I know exactly why.... you are right people have this fixed idea of the perception of living in the countryside... It would be a nightmare in Winter. I did the Shirley Valentine, there comes a point where one doesn't have the energy it's really tough going.... Head has to rule the heart.... I think some of the viewers don't get how difficult it is to access NHS these days... I have been waiting since January just for an ASSESSMENT on my hip... let alone being listed for surgery, as for privately.... there just aren't as many surgeons these days, so there is still a considerable wait ... meanwhile back in the real world we become more and more immobile.... I feel your pain up 60 stairs I only have 13
Vivi have you thought about an electric bike if you moved to, a slightly more rural area that way you could ride to village or town and take your much longed for dog with you hence killing two birds with one stone your knees wouldn’t have to cope with stress of peddling full time . Best of luck in your new home search .x
Sadly, electric bicycles in the UK have to be pedalled all the time; they don’t have handlebar throttles. The battery motor gives a lot of help on hills, but the knees/legs never get much of a rest. Also, country roads are lethal nowadays.
I cycled part of the Tour de France route a few years ago on an electric bike....immense fun but still a lot of hard work. In bad weather and with a load of shopping I think it would be zero fun. 😉
Hi Vivi. Enjoyed the video. My question is if the first floor switched with you, would you stay at your current place and keep your garden? Have a great day !!
We all love Vivi's cottage in the sky! But we need to respect her decision, which she has explained before and now in even more detail 🙏🤗 It may be stressful for our dear friend to have her plans regularly queried. I consider her sensible and wise, and that her judgement is spot on. And it's her life, her home, and her wellbeing to manage as best she can. Let's be by and on her side, whatever the future holds 🏠
I remember a pea souped fog in the 50's. It was very frightening, I couldn’t see my hands in front of my face, & I lived on the coast. It must have been horrific inland.
I just love my dogs and have lost them. I was in the active military and just couldnt keep dogs, my daughter liked cats so we had them. I have 4 dogs now, had 5 lost the elder. Had lots of puppies in our lives too. I however love big dogs, but have small dogs because the big dogs cost about 300$ in dog food these days and I cant walk for hours so littles don't need that.
I love my massive hounds.....the bigger the better......but there's something to be said for a smaller dog (walks, food, insurance!).....never say never. 😉
We don't have a garden here. Hmmmm.......not sure re the last bit.....probably not as I want to plant flowers and trees as well as veggies and that wouldn't be allowed on an allotment.
Great video Vivi, a bit of a cheeky question, not prying. You such a lovely person do you think you would try internet dating? Would you like to meet a special person?
I'm with you ,visit, but not to live. A bungalow ,French doors pots. I can never live in the country side in the middle of nowhere, wheres the fun in that . Shops ,doctors restaurants, teashop and book shops and more. 😊
Dear Vivi, we are balancing forces on the planet. I had the private garden and now I have an allotment, you are northern I am southern hemispheres, you are sweltering I am frosted in the high country now, we are both about to buy a house, I'll be putting in a combustion stove. Oooh there are so many ways to make a garden private with trellises, hedges, arches etc. I was overlooked, bamboo, the clumping sort gracilis, nobody will know you are there!!!
I've got a communal garden that I don't use. It's just not private. All the tennants can look down onto it. But I'm paying service charge. That's the only downside.
I do hope your move is quicker than mine, my sister died 2yrs and 7 months ago, l am still waiting on the solicitors and probate to sort themselves out. 😡
So pleased you decided to use my question🩷❣️ I can't tell you how many times I've day dreamed of moving to Europe, but alas, u come to my senses! I loved this Q&A so much, and i hope you do it again soon!

I will be living in a small unit in a retirement village setting, which will give me the security I want, with no maintenance costs and plenty to do to keep me active etc.,

@@marilyn9155 I am by myself too I just got recovered from fractured femur thank goodness for Amazon
We need to create and live in our own village! 😁
@@WhatVivididnext yes! I’m 72 yrs and worry a lot about aging alone …
Hello dear Vivi! Great video and interesting questions asked too. I shall certainly wish you every success in finding a suitable street level period ground floor flat with a garden for growing veggies and plants in which will be entered into from French doors! Big hugs from the Norfolk Broads!
Thank you lovely.
I do hope that new home for you will soon be on the horizon. Probably not easy finding a ground floor flat with a garden in London, but I am sure one is waiting for you!!
I've got everything crossed. 😊

Vivi you already answered my random question “do you like radishes? “No”.
I am a hybrid city gal as well, need urban as well as wilderness to be happy. Thanks for the chat. 🌟❤️
Hahahahahahaha.....definitely no to radishes. 😉
I feel your pain up 60 stairs I only have 13
Aww, cheers lovely. Hebden Bridge is gorgeous.........for a visit! Hahaha.....too many hills in Yorkshire for me. 😉
@@AtheistEve oh thats a shame, silly me not looking into it I misunderstood that most electric bikes were assisted well the thought was there
I cycled part of the Tour de France route a few years ago on an electric bike....immense fun but still a lot of hard work. In bad weather and with a load of shopping I think it would be zero fun. 😉
WOO HOO!!!!! PLANT NATIVE, AND HELP SAVE THE UNIVERSE RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR.
Whats for ya vivi wont go by ya pls god youll find the perfect home soon
Hi Vivi. Enjoyed the video. My question is if the first floor switched with you, would you stay at your current place and keep your garden? Have a great day !!
No. There would still be too many stairs......plus, I couldn't afford that flat.
We all love Vivi's cottage in the sky! But we need to respect her decision, which she has explained before and now in even more detail 🙏🤗
It may be stressful for our dear friend to have her plans regularly queried.
A dog in the future needs you in their life. Dont disappoint them.
Let's be honest you'll probably be there next winter 😂 only messing. ❤
I certainly hope not. 😢
Let's try to be positive, following Vivi's own example 🙏
😂😂😂
If you had a garden big enough, would you put a shed in it?
Yes.
Fantastic❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Who gets the use of the garden in your building now? Also, would you look at a ground floor flat with no garden if it was next to allotments?
We don't have a garden here. Hmmmm.......not sure re the last bit.....probably not as I want to plant flowers and trees as well as veggies and that wouldn't be allowed on an allotment.
@@WhatVivididnext fair enough.

Great video Vivi, a bit of a cheeky question, not prying. You such a lovely person do you think you would try internet dating? Would you like to meet a special person?
I doubt it. 😊
I'm with you ,visit, but not to live. A bungalow ,French doors pots. I can never live in the country side in the middle of nowhere, wheres the fun in that . Shops ,doctors restaurants, teashop and book shops and more. 😊
Hear, hear! I would love to find the best of both worlds..........wouldn't we all?!! 😉
Hahaha...here's hoping. 😊
I've got a communal garden that I don't use. It's just not private. All the tennants can look down onto it. But I'm paying service charge. That's the only downside.
Ach, yes, that's exactly what I wouldn't want...
Hi Vivi, have you ever made your own beer/cider/wine/liquors?
Many thanks
Debbie
Yes....with varying results. 😉
Ditto! 🥃🍷🥂🍻!
I do hope your move is quicker than mine, my sister died 2yrs and 7 months ago, l am still waiting on the solicitors and probate to sort themselves out. 😡
Ach, that's so tough. I hope you can get it all resolved soon.
Oops! My comment for the Q&A is in the reply area!!!
