- Hello and welcome to a new video.
This weeks video starts at Arnos Grove to Acton Town Westbound.
I talk about how I drive the train, from the speed to braking.
So if you are interested in the details then watch this video.

Evening Dale, Northern line operator here, love watching your vids just to reminisce as I was an Arnos Grove guard back in the day, then got displaced when the Picc went OPO, I’m in my 39th year, still enjoying the job. Keep up these great vids chap.
I don't remember guards on the Picc - when did it go OPO?
@@Andy-185 about 1987, 88 I think, got displaced to the Northern, where we were called Shadow Guards, that lasted about six months if I recall.
Hi is there any chance that you ever work on the King's Cross Loop from Piccadilly to Northern or Vis versa.
If you ever do and you can please could you video it thankyou
On the Northern, it’s rare to use it, except when the service calls for it, late running etc, we use part of that loop, but only up to signal L221, which we must not pass, then we change ends to travel northbound. Next signal is L22 then pass that you’re on the Picc. Only trains that usually uses the full loop to change lines are engineers trains, or the refurbished 1938 stock that people love to see.
Switch the adverts off please. They are annoying.
No way! There's actually a channel that records real POV train journeys. Please keep these coming! I could care less if the stations were empty, I could binge watch these for hours.
Surprised tfl allow this ha
@@Thenormalyoutubertipsandtricks Absolutely, I mean, I weren't aware of content like this until I discovered Dale's. There's a few other channels uploading similar content, not just on the Underground. I think with Dale being so upfront with his managers, that may have been a factor. As long as It's kept within morals, theres isn't really an issue. Like Dale states in his videos, the job always comes first.
Don Coffey is a good one he does freight trains and normal passenger trains.
There is also a channel that you may enjoy that is called 'JubileeDI' I think you should check him out! *+*he also does POV train rides(including the Metropolitin Line and the Jubilee Line*+* (I apologise if I spelt Metropolitin wrong)
*couldn't care less
As a Northerner, I don't get down to London very often. However, I've always had a fascination with the Underground and travelled on quite a large portion of it. I like all videos of the Underground, these videos show much of what can't be seen whilst travelling as a passenger.
Hi Dale, I absolutely love your videos of you driving the London Underground! As others have mentioned it matters not if it's busy or not, just the train and your fantastic commentary is enough. What I love the most is your commentary on how you're driving what you're looking for (signs, limits etc) and when you apply the brake, as I find that utterly fascinating! Keep the videos coming, we love them!
Can never get bored of these videos whether it's busy or not
Personally, I enjoy all the videos, including those that repeat essentially the same routes, because there is always something interesting going on, and I am never going to get bored, thank you very much Dale.
Switch the adverts off please, they are annoying.
@@PreservationEnthusiast I think that TH-cam displays adverts by default unless the video is demonetised for inappropriate content such as people being hurt. If you want to stop the adverts, the choice is yours, Premium = no adverts

Love the vid! Can I also just say thank you for the clear and friendly announcements to passengers. Ever since a couple of very long delays on the Elizabeth Line (including the 4+ hours last December) I get a sense of dread and panic whenever coming to an unexpected stop. You kind of clear and friendly tone and regular updates really put people like myself at ease. Some drivers/ some occasions I hear nothing... so thank you!
So presumably the changing from service numbers to braking when approaching a platform is just something you learn from judgement and distance.
Yes it’s all about experience
Hello Dale - I'd like to see more of the sections of the line outside the pipe, in daylight, please!
This brings back memories, i was the first ever T/op to depart from Arnos when we went from a crew operated train to OPO. I’d not long passed my motors exam. I can recall Wood Green / Barons Court reverses !! Excellent video which has brought back memories.
Hi Dale, we love your videos, busy or quiet. Thank you for your knowledge and info, we find it very interesting, and answering questions that we always wanted to know.
Saturday evening viewing sorted! Thank you Dale
Dale, I vote for the full ride. Your commentary is very knowledgeable and well delivered. Each station is unique. I find it quite relaxing. Thank you!
Hi Dale, many thanks for the videos which bring back memories of my daily journey to college on the Piccadilly Line from Uxbridge to Cockfosters in the early 1970's. Some of the trains running those days were still 1938 stock and I would often wait to catch one of those in preference to 1959 stock. The seats were so much more comfortable and more interestingly configured + the trains had so much more character and seemed to ride the rails so much better.
Enjoyed this video and in answer to your question I am happy if you keep these coming - never boring!
Hi Dale, just keep these videos going,I love watching your videos ,I can never get bored of watching these 👍
Marvellous. I would like to see more of these.
Hi Dale, in answer to your question I prefer videos with something unusual going on such as rusty rail movements, but the ordinary ones are still interesting. I was brought up in the Bounds Green area, so the Piccadilly is my 'home' line and I used to use it a lot, both to get into town and also sometimes for excursions to Osterley Park (seemed like a long time in one train!) and Kew Gardens (enlivened by the change of trains). Also, once I'd moved to Oxford I often used the express coach to and from London, which crosses over the other branch of the line at both Park Royal and Hillingdon, so both western branches have memories for me. I always wondered what it would be like to have a driver's eye view instead of just being a passenger, so these videos are a fulfilment of that wish. Many thanks!
I'll watch all of your videos that you upload, I'm hugely fascinated by your interesting comments while you're driving. Thank you for sharing your videos with us 👍🏻 👌🏻
I take the piccadilly to work every morning this is fascinating
Smooth, uneventful runs are very enjoyable, and very calming to watch. Many thanks!
I don’t mind the less interesting videos . Such normal videos without any specials is quite nice to watch . Keep doing these great videos ! Greets from Belgium tram/busdriver
Another fantastic video, thanks Dale! I recently watched the Hidden London video where the team visited the tunnels at Finsbury Park. Along with all the disused tunnels they discussed the possibility of Victoria line trains running on the Piccadilly and they were told it wouldn't be possible due to the lack of ATO equipment on the Piccadilly line
These are nice, mellow background viewing. I've learned a bit, but I've no problem with repeat routes.
Hi Dale. Please keep the videos coming. They are absolutely fascinating. Your commentary is so informative. What a brilliant watch ! All the very best. Simon. 👍😀
Thanks so much for this! I have been operating the Bakerloo Line 72 stock on train sim world 2 and now have a better understanding on how to apply the brakes properly!
Hi Dale, I really enjoy your normal operations videos, you answer so many questions I've had while riding the Underground.
Never thought i`ll see a POV like this.
Hey Dale. Your videos are a free vacation for me to a foreign country and different culture without the multi-thousand dollar expense. Whatever you video, I'll watch. Technical, scenery, outside, underground, people watching, whatever. Thank U!
I must say, I love the acceleration of your trains! I love all your videos
I'm learning from your videos so I put everything in practice in the bakerloo line on Train Sim World 😂
video was great! Was really quite relaxing to have on in the background.
I enjoy all your driving videos. Keep making them!
Will do. Thank you
I love all these videos 😊 It's good a day in the life of you and there's aways differences anyway so they don't get boring. Any chance before you leave your first station of your shift give us a small tor of the cab just so we know what the brake and speed controls look like? But don't do it if it gets you into trouble many thanks for the videos 🎉
Hi Dale, I think you should carry on posting your cab rides, regardless on whether you’ve posted previously; it would be interesting to see different times of day and different weather conditions on the line. Definitely do more rusty rail clips - Down St would be of interest.
I’ve been fascinated by the tube ever since I was 7 years old and discovered videos of it on TH-cam. When I first went to London in 2014 at age 13, the Piccadilly Line was my first real world exposure to the tube! I absolutely love these cab view videos, keep them up!
im 35 and i now feel ancient reading ur comment lol
@@DexterschnauzerI'm 49 and can remember old red Bakerloo Line trains
I'd watch all coverage you record, keep it coming please Dale!
Hi Dale
Yes i like the videos when you going up down the with not much happens
You get too see different things
Getting expert at these dale
WOAAAH you could license these POV and have it be part of a train sim. It would sell like hotcakes
If like filming it, do so and post the video: people can watch it if they want, or wait for something different like the rusty rail stuff. It's all interesting as far as I'm concerned, thanks for your efforts!
It's nice when the camera catches the passenger's loading through the mirror.
Hi Dale, just recently started watching your channel and enjoying watching your videos and I think the same as the majority of your viewers , I don't know if you've done this yet I haven't explored you back catalogue of videos yet but I'd like to see a ride along the complete line in both directions at different times of the year for contrast, your longer videos are a great way to kill time and better than watching the TV, cheers mate 👍
We are basically all watching this like cats watching washing
Hi from Australia! Love your videos even if not much is happening in your opinion. If you feel comfortable though, would be keen to learn more about why you became a driver, if you have a favourite shift time, kind of shift, station etc and any fun facts that you find interesting about the line.
I fine watching in the dark helps so see the video better when i have the lights of i can see the track maybe thats just me but curious to know if anyone else's finds watching in the dark helps ?
Another brilliant vid. I find your commentary captivating - you sound like the calmest instructor taking a newbie out on route learning😂
One question tho - are you even old enough to remember Dad's Army 👍
And yes, keep the videos coming, there's is nothing that is EVER boring especially with your commentary👍
I'm sure you checked for yourself but that signal that you mention that repeats three or four signals does indeed repeat three signals, as you said, but it's plated up as RWL25/29.25/16. WL25 is of course the junction signal at which you are just momentarily stopped and at which you get the route onto the local. WL29 is the next signal on the fast and WL16 is the next signal on the local. So you'll only get a green at that repeater if the junction signal WL25 is off and the next signal on whichever line you're routed to is also off.
Thank you for making this view available to all of us, and your commentary is very informative as well. It would be nice if it was easier to see some of the underground parts, I don't know if there's a better camera or settings that might show more detail in the low light.
The biggest issue I have with cameras is they need to be small for using in the cab. I do have a new camera but I have not managed to set it up properly yet
As an Aussie I love watching trains from other countries mainly the Underground
Very different system to ours ❤ it
Ref your question: what would make it more interesting (depending on your level of editing skills) would be to superimpose the speedometer and stations. Still happy to see repeats regardless 👍
Hi Dale, I enjoy your video. Whether you've done it before or not, I can't get tired of the video's, like your renaming of the station. "Don't tell him your name pike.

I’m new to your channel and live in Florida. When in London we tend to stay near the Piccadilly line. I’ve been enjoying your videos and find them very fascinating. Many thanks!
Probably just me, but when you are in the tunnel and there is a bit of light, all I can hear in my head is the Doctor Who theme.
Keep doing what your doing mate. I just hope your making a good quid from YT💪
weekend videos like u said earlier Saturday night or midday on a Sunday/ Saturday would be cool
Like others I can't get bored of these very easily
Keep going
Love these vids
These videos are so good, would love to keep watching the long journeys. Love the commentary too
I think the fact that as I watch this video that it has 940 likes within 18 hours that we love these videos and I for one hope they keep on coming even if it is the same line and nothing happens, I just love to watch them and love your commentary
Just an idea, if you could angle the camera so that we could see the monitors when you're in the station I think it would make for a better video. Great video, but I just enjoyed the station stops where I could see the monitors as well. Cheers from the US!
What a difference from NYC subways 😊
I appreciate how they display the station names multiple times at each station. On some transit systems I've been on, you find yourself desperately peering out of the window, trying to spot the station name.
It's also announced between stations, and on arrival, both with audio and on all but one line (bakerloo) text displays.
Sometimes I get the Piccadilly line from King’s Cross to Hyde Park Corner and when the trains arrive I always hear them clanging on the tracks
Hello Dale, quick question: are you allowed to show us how to set up a train (not because I want to steal one or something lol) because I am creating a piccadilly line game on roblox and it would really help. Love your videos and hope you do terminal 4 loop soon. 👍
Absolutely enjoy the videos, even if they're repeating the same route or uneventful - I find it quite relaxing to watch and listen to, especially with your commentary! Please do keep them coming if you enjoy making them!
Yes I like your videos
After looking at railways in Singapore etc., it looks like London Underground could do with a ruddy good deep clean. All that dust can’t be healthy either.
Really enjoy these videos so please keep making them.
Do you drive only the Piccadilly line by choice or is that TFL policy that you stick to the one line?
hi dale enjoyed the video again keep them coming, a question, on this trip you passed 3 disused stations are there many disused stations on the underground network.
I’m not sure how many in the whole underground. The pic line has 5. York road, Aldwych, Down street, Brompton Road and Osterley and Spring Grove station
i want to be a train operator, so to answer your question in my opinion i like all your videos no matter if you do the same thing! Your commentary makes it 10x better also!
Thanks for uploading. Very enjoyable as usual.
I have a couple of questions.....
1. Why does the distance between colour light signals vary, some are so close together, some very far apart ?
2. What does the big 'X' on the wall at Holloway Road mean ?
In some cases they have several signals very close together to slow you down and to move you closer to a station or to protect points. So as you com win to King’s Cross if there is a train in the platform the signals are red. However if you go slow enough the signals will start to change moving you in closer. As for the T with the X it means the tunnel telephone and or wires are not working. We used to be able to turn power off by rubbing the wires together and connect a hand set to speak with control/signaler. Now we have radios
I like them ALL!! The more, the better.
Love the vids. Was wondering… How many of the other lines can / could you physically connect to?
In theory - if train sizes allowed etc…??
I absolutely love the videos keep them coming I’ll keep watching
Just keep them coming Dale, always enjoyable. All the best.
pretty str ange seeing the tunnels from the front, as a passenger you only ever see the sides and a very small glimpse from the platform, but never when you're fully in unless its the DLR
The 1938 stock has been cancelled due to a vandilisation.I was hoping to see u and the 1938 stock in Acton Mr Charman. They do not have the right to do that to any stocks whether it's old school or new one
It’s a real shame. Especially to some thing so old. I am sure a lot of people will be disappointed it is not running
@@dalecharmantravels8057 They are indeed
Dale. Really enjoying your videos, thank you. You mentioned A and B stations but I noticed one or two of the main ones in the core were marked as X. What do you have to do then if the monitors fail? All the best, Steve
Hello Steve. If you mean the x through a T it means the tunnel telephone and or wires are not working. Before the trains had radios you could connect a telephone handset to the wires and it would turn off the power and connect to the controller/signaller
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Thanks Dale. Having rewatched it, that is what I was seeing an X through a T. Thanks again for the explanation and the videos! Steve
Dale, have you ever been to the U.S. and been on MARTA train in Atlanta, GA, USA or METRORAIL in Miami, FL, USA?
U have visited the US many times but not ridden many of the trains. I hope to change that over the next couple of years or so
These videos are great Dale, keep em coming!
I was wondering what the “D off” signs signify?
Hi Dale, I love your videos, please keep uploading everything. 😊
I love these videos keep them coming. One suggestion is maybe have a small night vision camera setup to record some in tunnel footage. I know there isn't much to see but would add to the viewing experience. Have a second smaller picture in maybe bottom left or right of screen showing it.
Thank you for making another video - they are all fascinating. Personally, I prefer the open air travel because there’s much more to say than the single tracks in the tunnel. But all still enjoyable.
Whooo hoooonew video, but I could not nderstand what u saying on Turnpike lane station. I have had listen multiple times but aww cant understand. :) thanks your video!
I call Turnpike Lane don’t tell them your name like lane. It’s a reference to a tv show called dads army
@@dalecharmantravels8057 thank you sooo much your quick respod! Thats clear now :) have a good evening!
Busy or not they are enjoyable, and any specials are a bonus. Do you set up the correct onboard announcement for the route? Or is done remotely? How is it triggered?
Can you upload a driving video where we can see the power lever? I want to see how you keep moving the lever back and forth when stopping at stations to ensure a good stop without hampering the braking too much. This must be a bit tricky to master!
It is some thing i am trying to get permission to do
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Hopefully!
I have filmed a short video of it. I’ve not looked at the footage yet to see if it can be used. If it can it will be out in a few weeks times
I think these long “normal duty” videos are great to repeat if you spread them out just enough. Don’t ask me to explain it, but there’s a pleasure seeing stations and people change with the seasons.
I enjoy all your videos, keep them coming.
Great videos... Keep them coming please 👏
So why do you guys never actually stick to the timetable?
We do try too. Delays can soon add up when you have a train every few mins.
Regular service videos all the time please! Always brilliant to watch.
As an apprentice signal engineer in the mid 1980s, one Saturday night shift we walked from Russel Square to Earl’s Court along the track. Watching your videos takes me back to those times so I am more than happy for you to make more videos just with normal driving. I do find the extra bits such as rusty rail moves fascinating though so more of those too, please. Keep up the good work Dale 😊
This might be a little bit of a silly question, how do you know whether you’re going downhill or uphill while in the tunnel?
Also; I’ve seen a lot of answers from different drivers on programs about the London Underground but what is the craziest thing you’ve seen while driving?
The tunnels are not as dark as they seem so you can see the hills in the tunnel. I can’t say I have seen any thing really strange. I did see some one dressed as a 7 foot (just a guess) dinosaur. That was pretty funny watching it get on the train
You do excellent videos. All are great! Well done!
Very short distance between Covent Garden and Leicester Square, less than 30 seconds?
On the content question; I really enjoyed the videos that dig down into the logistics of the network, they're definitely something different. However, videos like these are also thoroughly enjoyed. Cheers, Dale.
Personally, I don't mind the boring videos. In my case, I don't mind the background noise and highlights as you speak. Please continue to post what you see fit.
I do like seeing random videos
This makes me happy. I can't explain why.
I love all your videos Dale please continue.
