  • The Mesdames de France was the name given to the eight daughters of King Louis XV. Most of the Mesdames lived their entire lives at court, without getting married.
The Eight Mesdames de France were :
    • Louise-Élisabeth de France (1727 - 1759)
    • Anne Henriette de France (1727 - 1752)
    • Marie-Louise de France (1728 - 1733)
    • Marie-Adélaïde de France (1732 - 1800)
    • Victoire de France (1733 - 1799)
    • Sophie de France (1734 - 1782)
    • Thérèse-Félicité de France (1736 - 1744)
    • Louise de France (1737 - 1787)
Marie-Louise de France known as Madame Troisième was the third daughter of King Louis XV and Marie Leszczyńska. She was born on July 28, 1728 in Versailles and died at the age of 4 on February 19, 1733.
Marie Adélaïde of France, was the fourth daughter and sixth child of Louis XV and Marie Leszczynska. She was born on March 23, 1732 in Versailles, baptized in Versailles on April 27, 1737 and she died on February 27, 1800 in Trieste. Together with her sister, Victoire, she survived the French Revolution.
Victoire Marie Louise Thérèse of France, known as Madame Cinquième then Madame Victoire (1745), born in Versailles on May 11, 1733 and died in Trieste on June 7, 1799, is one of the two daughers of Louis XV and Marie Leszczynska to survive the french revolution.

How horrible hearing of children being subjected to bloodletting. This is a fascinating series and I'm looking forward to more.

It was assumed to be good medical practice at the time. Unfortunately doctors killed more patients than they cured at the time !

Adélaïde and Victoire begged their niece Elisabeth to come with them but the princess refused, saying she had to stay by her brother's side in this turmoil. If only she had agreed!

What a lovely compliment Jess, I am really happy to see you're enjoying my content so much. I'm considering on making 'Wednesday Super Shorts' in the future, which will be super short videos about lesser known historical figures. It'll make the wait between videos less long !

It's unfortunate that the birth of a girl child was less appreciated than a boy. And it's extremely sad that a sweet little girl passed away from Gout due to malicious medical practice of drawing out blood. Nobody can tolerate their father's lovers. Must have been terrible for the daughters to stand the numerous mistresses and illegitimate children of Louis XV.

Polish Queen Marie got pregnant so much that she asked her husband to stop sleeping with her. So Louis turned to his mistresses. It's interesting that queen got along with her husband's mistress but his daughters hated her.

@@TheKingsofFrance I read the memoirs of Madame Du Hausset, who was Madame De Pompadour had a great relationship with the Queen. She mentioned how the Queen wanted to make Pompadour her lady in waiting, but the king was reluctant to agree because he felt there would be a scandal as the courtiers would say that he had forced the queen to make her a lady in waiting like the previous kings did. But the queen insisted and she got her way.
Remember that unlike her predecessors, Queens Marie Therese, Marie De Medici, and Catherine De Medici, Queen Marie Leszczyńska have little interest in her husband. She banished him from her bedroom because she complained about her constant pregnancies. It was then that King Louis started taking mistresses. So unlike the previous queens, Marie Leszczyńska had no reason to be sexually jealous of the mistresses.

Hi Richard, it is not exactly known as he never legitimized any of his children out of wedlock, but history assumes about 15 illegitimate children.

Have you considered the current "pretender" to the French Throne, Jean Carl Pierre Marie d'Orléans, Comte de Paris?

    • @TheKingsofFrance
      @TheKingsofFrance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not yet. I do have a video in the making about Karl Wilhelm Naundorff, whose descendants also still claim their right to the French throne. Obviously by now Naundorff has been shown to be an impostor. However, D'Orléans would make a good subject, I'll add it to the list. Thank you for the suggestion Ludovic !
