A 'walk in engine room' on a 50 feet sailboat? Really impressive! It would be great if a folding (or not) workshop table and storage could be squeezed in there. Really impressive as it is!
1st I'm going to say that I'm impressed with the details that have been paid attention to in the Kraken yachts. Decades ago I was convinced that a heavy draft, long keeled boat was the way to cross oceans. Then, along comes Y T and a full complement of young adventurers on multi hulls crossing oceans in what appears to be not only comfortable but safe & reliable boats. Lets just leave it at my resolve began to erode and my convictions to waffle. Enter the White Dragon and my resolve and convictions are safe again. 😊 Now! As for this video. Considering all of the details put into dreaming up, designing and producing a Kraken, not to mention watching what I call the teaser videos leading up to the engine room I really expected a seriously Cracker Jack video on the Heart of a Kraken. 🤷♂️ As this video was ending I suddenly had a feeling resurfaced from memories as a young child when my dad would take me with him to the hardware store in the mall. We'd walk through the toy store to get to the hardware store on the other side. I always felt cheated because I didn't have time to look much less touch any of the toys. 😢 I realize that my role here is that of a virtual observer BUT !!! I was hoping to virtually inspect all of the systems and surfaces and I'd like to virtually touch EVERYTHING. 😁 You barely gave us a glance through the door... 😭 I believe you have seriously raised the bar when it comes to defining a "Bluewater Yacht". 👏 Great Job.👍👍🙏
Please continue making videos. I never tire of watching, listening and learning... Could you consider making a video dedicated to explaining how the (3) different size Kraken yachts differ in sailing and rigging handling? And thank you for this 4th in your series. I've been watching for it, nearly daily, since the 3rd.
I love Kraken's philosophy of making everything practical and no trying to win any contest for how many people you can sleep or absolute speed. Without a doubt, this would be the boat I'd own were money no object.
My guess is the cost of the luxury interior is a very small portion of the cost of the boat. Basically if the boat is already over $1m anyone buying it would expect a nice interior so they just throw that in and it bumps up the price say 5-10%.
It makes A LOT of sense and in a boat that basically runs with electricity (obviously except the sailing part), having such equipment and care for the clean fuel is crucial. Amazing yacht!
100% agree with how you have designed the Kraken Yachts. On SY TITANIA we also have a full dedicated engine room and the same fuel storage and delivery system!
This is coming, hopefully the first episode from the deck walkthrough will be out next week :) sorry for the delay, the team is working hard to bring more content.
ack to the beginnings of Yachtbilding. All errors from other yacht manufacturers seem to have actually been taken up and eliminated at Kraken. The Kraken 50 is at the top of my list. How many outboard connections under the Waterline are there and wath material number are the Stainless steel parts made of? Are these made of 1.4301 or 1.4571? . The Videos of Khiara and Adam from the Millennial Falcon made me aware of this boat!!!!! How long is the delivery time for the 50?. Sorry for my English, Google helped me with the translation. Greetings from Germany Olli
Hey Oliver, great to hear the K50 is at the top of your list. The delivery time currently is 15 months. Please contact us at sales@krakenyachts.com and we would be happy to get in touch to discuss your questions in more detail.
Two weeks ago S/V Raindancer hit a whale on the way from Panama to the South Pacific with the keel. The keel pushed up making a big hole in the boat and it sank in 15 minutes. Luckily the crew was experienced, had lots of safety and communication equipment and they were rescued from the lifeboat 10 hours later.
Have you thought about changing to metal strapping with a rubber insert as opposed to cable ties to secure all those cables in place if you were unlucky enough to get a fire in there most cable ties would melt pretty quickly then in a smoke filled compartment you can't see much in you would also potentially contend with hanging potentially very hot wires everywhere.
Mind you probably a mute point by the time the cable ties had melted the fire is probably spread to far to be put out with basic first aid firefighting equipment so would probably be abandoning anyway at that point
Kraken yachts are what the competitors use to be a long time ago before they went all bolt on, flimsy and ikea. If only i had the money, there would be no other boat worth considering. Now i just need to win the lotto or invent the next big app.
Just love the Kraken 50 and all of Dicks comments. A couple of things - when you take a wave over the bow, where does the water go? Appears to be trapped by the toe rail, no scuppers? How many Black Water storage tanks are there on the 50, and how big are they. Is in-boom furling an option? (You can always just drop the sail). This would seem to be a better and safer option than in-mast furling. I love the photo of White Dragon in 55 knots of wind, just out for a little sail. How big were the seas when this was taken and can I get a high resolution copy of the photo as I would love to hang it in my study. Thanks.
Hi Robert, thanks for your comment and questions. Water can escape through our fairleads. There are some located midships for when water goes over the bow. The deck generally takes less water than other yachts due to the rake of the bow. We have 1x black tank per head, 90L each. There are advantages and disadvantages to in-boom and in-mast but yes it would be easier to drop the sail with in-boom. With our in-mast setup however, we do not use battens so the risk of jamming is far lower. The seas were quite big during this photoshoot but you don't quite get the scale of it through the photos. Being on the photo boat was far less smooth than on White Dragon who was eating up the waves 😅 Please message us at sales@krakenyachts.com and we would be happy to organise a high res copy of the photo.
There is a hatch in the sole of the cockpit. It is semi permanent, meaning it is attached with sika and bolts but if the time ever comes where the engine needs to be removed, the hatch can be opened up.
A polishing system for the fuel system. Huh. So that is actually built into the system as it is running. It's cleaning the fuel while the engine is running. And that eliminates about 70 or 80 percent of engine breakdowns. I don't think I'll ever have the money to pay for a Kracken Yacht, and so I don't know why I am interested. ha
I´m very surprised that there seems to be no soundproofing in the engine room. How is it possible in such a expensive yacht? It must be a terrible noise. Compare with Hallberg Rassy 50 and you will understand what I mean.

Oh My Goodness. What an amazing yacht! 👍
😍 these boats. Wish they brought out a budget friendly model. Happy to have less lux interiors but keep all the essential blue water kit.

I would trust Dick Beaumont's design sense to the ends of the Earth

Z.
Love it. Access is king!
I dont know if it is the 50 or one of the bigger yachts, but I want a Kraken.
You and me both, but I'd like to stay under 39' overall.
Please post more videos!
More coming up, apologies for the delays. We have been very busy with client visits to sail on the latest Kraken 50 :)
Please add a cockpit walk through video. One on the nav station and electrical systems would be great as well. Thanks.

What happened to the exterior walkthrough? Was looking forward to it.

very nice yacht 😍 Can someone explain to me what a system of storage- and running-tank does? And how it eliminates diesel pest?

Unobtanium but otherwise a perfect blue water boat.
How’d they get that engine in there? Looks like they build the boat around it.
There is a hatch on the cockpit floor which is bolted and sealed. If the engine or generator needs to come out, this can be removed.
Show access from port side...?..
How do you get the engine out if it ever needs to be replaced?

@@KrakenYachts Wow!
1:06 - what's the larger boat?
Why do boats mount their engine oil filters horizontally? Changing those filters is always messy.
I MIGHT be able to afford a Kraken 40’ - if they ever offer such a size, in 2034. 🤣
(There’s a lot of “mights” there) 🙂 🙏

The engine room includes full soundproofing. As an example, the generator is almost inaudible with the door closed.
This is really a Hallberg Rassy competitor.
That is an awesome Indian room
I didn’t see any Indian food or people. Do you mean engine room 🤣
