I find it very disturbing the crew does not get fresh fruit and veggies. Very terrible on Disney's part. Fruit and vegetables are needed to maintain a healthy body. Disney needs to treat there employees/crew way better.
I work with Carnival Uk, specifically on their P&O fleet and we definitely had fresh fruit and milk and dairy! We were allowed to bring it onto the ship and in our cabins :)
I know this is an old comment, but you might not even realize how right you are. Gianna was smart to go to the juice bar as much as she could. Pirates and Sailors were very well aware of scurvy, caused by Vitamin C deficiency. (Causes gums to swell and bleed, as well as can prevent things like cuts from properly healing.) Vitamin A deficiency hurts the eyes and immune system at severe levels, and even at minor levels can still hurt skin and hair, further contributing to the problems Gianna mentioned with difficulty maintaining beauty. These are the problems with having deficiencies of just 2 of the many vitamins in fruits and vegetables. The lack of produce is risky business. "5 a Day" wasn't just a motto to try and trick people into buying more produce. Heck, even canned fruits and vegetables would be better than nothing.
The flavor labs work really hard to control bowel movements on the ship. They want a balance of no diarrhea, no constipation, and couple that with they don’t want rodents in the cabins and I can see why but I don’t agree with it.
I don’t think it’s right the crew members don’t get a day off, you should get 1 day a week off mandatory. I could see how you would go crazy. BTW I love DCL I’m going on my 3rd cruise in May 2019 I always tip above the recommended tips, you guys are the best in the industry, the most courteous and attentive to the guest needs. You guys keep those ships very clean also. My best friend who had only been on DCL went on Carnival and said the difference was amazing DCL was like caviar and Carnival was like eating a hot dog. I hope that analogy makes since.
You sign a contract with articles. On American carriers that states your on for 6 months or you can be release if the ship docks in a American port. Seeing cruise ships sail under non American flags they don't fall under these articles. You become a third world slave.to the country flag they fly. Your under threat of being put off in another country with nothing.

Please remember, people, that some crew members make a lot more on cruise ships than they can in their home countries, and also the dollar is really good compared to some currencies. Many are happy to have the job. But Disney MUST add vegetables and fruit to the crew food options!
Just got back from a Disney cruise two weeks ago and now I appreciate the crew members even more! If I ever go on a Disney cruise again I will bring them little gifts and tip them more. What kind of small gifts would crew members appreciate the most? Sad you don't get to eat a little better. Thanks for sharing!

This makes me really sad and kinda not want to go on Disney cruises anymore. I always said that the staff kinda looks...run down even though they try not to. So sad.
This is why I don’t suck Disney off. I don’t care how infamous , worldwide, and successful it is...I have way more respect for the people who work at Disney than Disney the company. ( I hope that makes sense) In fact I’ve seen videos of people who work at Disneyland. they tell their stories of rude guest and horrible managers and coworkers. However, if I had to say who gets it the worst..is the people who act as the characters. I know they have to stay in character...but you can tell when they are pissed or tired. Even though they try to hide it..
I don’t understand why it’s necessary for crew to work this many hours, why not just let them have one day off per week and maybe working on cruise ships wouldn’t have such a negative stigma, I really want to do it but it seems like it would be soooo exhausting
Days off would mean needing more crew and then less room for more paying guests. And more crew turnover means less people working their way up the pay scale. Kind of scummy. And Disney guests expect the "cast members" to be magical all the time. Wanna talk about first world problems?? "My server wasn't bippity boppity enough ". LOL A simple day off would make that easier to do.
I was thinking this, too. The staff doesn't have to all have the same day off, but especially on ships that have 1000+ employees, surely this would not be an impossible feat to arrange. Everyone needs a day to reset mentally, even if it's not a port day! The industry I think could massively cut down their employee turnover rates if they even just did this 1 thing. Guaranteed 1 day off per week.
I too was on the Disney dream. In fact I did the maid cruise from Germany. I loved the hot tube late at night or the cove cafe with a book. then there is always the "Library" ;-) Lol

I have a small understanding. JC Penney’s salon owned me for seven years. How many times did I shove down a burrito or cheese crackers while a perm was processing under the dryer?! Then go home and do my family’s hair cuts and colors in my kitchen. Not much of a life. I’m retired from hairdressing now, and don’t miss it. Balance. We all need balance to be ‘normal’.

OMG! This made my day! I am sure you will reach your dream someday! You will be an incredible Crew Staff Member! Thank you so much for watching and supporting!
You should have been sure to get sunlight and fresh air every day- nap in a lounge chair. And maybe take vitamins? Could you have bought some dried/dehydrated fruit in a bag to take back to the ship while in port? Could you eat fruit while in port? What a shame they weren't smart enough to give you time off to recharge and refresh yourselves. Sorry you had a bad experience. I do appreciate how hard people work on cruise ships. Maybe it was harder for you because you are so young.
I would have loves some sunlight and a nap in a lounge chair!! I think you are allowed to have dried or dehydrated fruit. I used to bring go go squeeze apple sauce on. You can eat whatever you want in port if you get off and go to a restaurant! Cruise ship workers are absolutely the hardest working people I know!
Hello ! I just wanted to know suppose i joined as galley steward then how much time takes for promotion or change to another department like f&b serveice. ? What is salary of galley steward ? What is period of contract ? I know i asked so much question but i think you will guide me😊
I guess it depends on the people. Because a lot of people who are not canadian or americans.. have no chance to work on Disney. The only remaining option is DCL.
Stuart S The boutique is not closed in port because we provide a service. When in castaway cay, we get off the boat and look on the island in disney’s shops. No crew pool on the Disney Dream!
Its contractual is you get paid weekly and its under minimum wage because you are considered a bohemian worker! If you are from the states you also have to pay taxes!
that is absolutely disturbing, 70 hours a week and no offdays, for 8-12 months in a row..thats crazy, they should really organize something to where you only work half the day and have alternating shifts, or to where you can get a good 2 days a week off while on the ship, thats crazy :/
@@TeenG definitely! mad respect to you and all the workers though, yall make the experience what it is! Ive had a great time on all the cruises ive been on and the employees were super nice!
Being an ex-seaman myself, I cannot disagree with the way you are portraying ship-life here. A ship is a floating hotel where, it operates 247. I had worked for 11 years on the ships, and cannot disagree with you more. Would you go to every single event to socialize on land though? Don't think so, either way you will wear yourself out. The misconception comes when you compare a job on a ship, with something similar to a summer camp. Most people who work on ships go there to make a career out of it, rather than just the experience. Secondly, complaining about not being able to do your hair and nails and "beauty" concept - this is really a first world problem. Thirdly, food is loaded every embarkation day. The whole aft area of the ship, on decks A and B (especially the Dream) is loaded with fresh food, and yes, some frozen food, just as you would stock up on your fridge at home. There is plentiful fresh fruits and vegetables, I guess it is matter of personal taste what you would prefer - again, a first world problem. Having a central location for eating is the idea because can you imagine, 1500 crew members eating where ever they want, the mess involved, and who would clean that? Fourthly, growth in the company on board might be slightly less than what you want, because, well, again, there are only 4 ships in DCL and as mentioned before, people go there to make a career. It is up to you to show up and prove yourself to want to move up. To be honest, the job is hard yes, but what I have accomplished during the time; friends from all over the world, able to see parts of the world I would not have had; saving up and investing in my own future. I would not change it for the world. I was treated well in the same company of which you speak bad off. PS - when it comes to relationships on the ship - well - that is just up to you to keep your morals and standards, again, just as you would if you were to be on land.
Thank you for taking such a large portion of your day to leave this comment! It is shocking to me that you believe that having water that is not chlorinated to wash your hair so it doesn't fall out is a first world problem! I am so glad you love ship life so much! Just remember, just because someones opinion is different than yours does not mean its wrong! Thank you for watching!
I wanted to work at corporate offices in Burbank since I knew a lawyer that worked there. Disney has least advancement potential of many companies because it has many unstable low paying retail jobs. Been there. Worked in several retail and restaurant jobs while in college and hated it. Good luck with your future.
It's very sad that the crew is being treated that way. You need the day light,a good diet. Fruits and vegetables are very important. You need more time off. On any other job you get two days off a week.

The interesting part is.. for people outside the US. Who cannot work in the US parks.. their only opportunity to work for the mouse is DCL.
Correct! This is very true!
oh my gosh my dream was to work on a disney cruise but after watching your videos it’s not seeming as amazing as i thought🥺
Its something to think about, its not all magic! I loved sailing as a guest. Working on the ship was totally different.
I honestly think I would love this so hard.
You might! I have friends that love it so much! It’s a super unique experience!
What about mental health? Can I still have appointments w my therapist over FaceTime? Is there a private area?
Were you on the Dream or Fantasy?! I think we had you at BBB and you all loved my daughter and we loved all you guys!! My daughter is Holly she was 3
christina Meldrum The dream!! do you have photos?!
Hi can I say u inspire me so much I am a 15 year old boy that lives on a small island in England that is called the Isle Of Man that is really small even know I don't want to work in bbb I do want to work as crew staff and it has became my dream so thank you for telling people what it is like because without u on youtube I would not want to work on the ship keep being amazing Milo😊
A shame for a rich company like Disney to treat their cruise workers so poorly. Not very family- friendly and wholesome of them, is it?
Hello ! I just wanted to know suppose i joined as galley steward then how much time takes for promotion or change to another department like f&b serveice. ? What is salary of galley steward ?
What is period of contract ?
I know i asked so much question but i think you will guide me😊
I am not sure as I only had one friend in the galley and I never asked! Contracts range 3-9 months!
My dream is to be a fairy godmother in BBB but all of these videos I’m watching are scarring me from that🥺
I loved my job in the boutique!! It was my life on the ship that was hard for me!
I guess it depends on the people. Because a lot of people who are not canadian or americans.. have no chance to work on Disney. The only remaining option is DCL.
Exactly!
Aren’t the shops closed when the ship is in a port? Isn’t there a crew pool so you can get sun?
Stuart S The boutique is not closed in port because we provide a service. When in castaway cay, we get off the boat and look on the island in disney’s shops. No crew pool on the Disney Dream!
Gianna Alexis I was on a Celebrity cruse and you could look down from the bow and see the crew pool. Thanks for your reply!
Very interesting. I would add *working on DCL* to the title. Thanks for sharing!
Great input! Will do! Thank you for watching!
how did you get a job on disney cruise line?
I applied on jobs.disneycareers.com/disney-cruise-line
NO days off? No wonder you started to have problems with your feet! It sounds like modern day slavery instead of a job.
No days off! Its a hard life and not for most people (Including me lol)
What is the pay like if you are working 70 hours a week?
Its contractual is you get paid weekly and its under minimum wage because you are considered a bohemian worker! If you are from the states you also have to pay taxes!
Ewwwww that sounds gross! No wonder you left congratulations girl.
How does be on the shipfor holloween and christmas. Do we get to dress up
Hello from the port of Galveston... I see the ship often
How fun!!
Traffic :( lol
Is merchandise considered the same level of privilege as BBB?
Yes!
that is absolutely disturbing, 70 hours a week and no offdays, for 8-12 months in a row..thats crazy, they should really organize something to where you only work half the day and have alternating shifts, or to where you can get a good 2 days a week off while on the ship, thats crazy :/
Or more of a 10 weeks on 10 weeks off would be sustainable. It's a hard life for sure!
@@TeenG definitely! mad respect to you and all the workers though, yall make the experience what it is! Ive had a great time on all the cruises ive been on and the employees were super nice!
I don't understand. Ship life is slow death. I can't even step on board as a passenger more than 12 hours.
WHY?????
It was hard! Thank you so much for watching!
Congrats on 600 subs!!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching!
lol so are u from a first world country pauline? sounds like ur from somewhere that these basic things are considered luxuries to you 😳
lol so are u from a first world country pauline? sounds like ur from somewhere that these basic things are considered luxuries to you 😳
I wanted to work at corporate offices in Burbank since I knew a lawyer that worked there. Disney has least advancement potential of many companies because it has many unstable low paying retail jobs. Been there. Worked in several retail and restaurant jobs while in college and hated it. Good luck with your future.
Thank you so much!
It's very sad that the crew is being treated that way. You need the day light,a good diet. Fruits and vegetables are very important.
You need more time off. On any other job you get two days off a week.
I agree! Well said. Its a hard life to live and you need basics to function! Thank you so much for watching and supporting!
Omg I sent aplication to Disney cruise now I regret. I was newer working on cruse ship before but I always wanted. I gues Disny is not for first goers. Can anyone recomend some better company?
I actually hear Disney is one of the best cruise lines to work for. Others are much, much worse.
Working on a ship is u either love it or hate it
And depends on job u got
@@dominickjustave3558 well I still didnt get a job on any cruse and I was apllying for youth staf.
@@maryola1540 youth staff requires a ton of experience with large groups. Work summer camps ect.
Question, what day did you take your drug test? Were you already on the ship? Did they make you do it more than once?
I think i took it 3 days into being on the ship and you take random tests as well!
Okay awesome to know! Thanks! I fly to Orlando tomorrow morning! I'm so excited! make sure to let me know when you board the ship i would love to meet you as well and thank you in person for all your help!
Great video! DCL is the best! Subbed & Liked. Check out our channel when you get a chance.
Will do! Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it!
You're Welcome!
Can you date other crew members and can you hang out in their cabins if you do
Yes to both questions!
I could never share a room with someone. I need my 4x4 space.
Its more comfortable then you think.. I always thought the same.
How many hours of sleep did you get?
Usually 7 depending on if I decided to go out or not!
Gag. That sounds like a horrible job, minimum wage on top of it!
It was very hard! Thank you for watching and supporting!
I don’t think they get minimum wage, but virtually all expenses are covered.
Too much of complaining.
