Personally philosophy helped me so much because I tend to overthink all the time. I am always thinking about something so having knowledge in philosophy allowed me to filter my thoughts and get the upper hand over the destructive ones
For me your point just clarifies your lack of understanding of philosophy. The assumption of “philosophy is only useful for introspection and thinking and has little to no use in reality” is an evidence of a modern misconception that affects our world nowadays. Originally, philosophy was always a tool for real world use, but as the time passed (specially with modern and contemporary philosophy) this sense started to lose itself. The decaying of the west is literally a consequence of the practice of a philosophy, and its exactly when people dont understand that ideas has consequences that events like this happens. I agree with you that wisdom without action is meaningless, but teleologically philosophy was never supposed to be like that. Bad philosophy has no use in real world, but not all of it.
I don’t think it has no use in reality, but I think it can not be used as a tool for self help. People tend to think they make progress by exploring philosophy but it won’t help you make progress unless you actually do the work that needs to be done.
@@bridgesyt Oh, alright. I agree with that. But when you say "I think it can not be used as a tool for self help" aren't you assuming that things you can learn in Philosophy are not useful to better yourself / your life? The thing is: if you don't practice what you learned, it has no use in fact. So, if you don't take action over the knowledge you got, its meaningless. But I don't think its correct to assume that it cannot be used as a tool for self help. It cannot be used as a tool for self help if you just read and don't do shit about it. Ideas shape and always shaped the world.
You’re right, but even if you have the greatest idea in the world it’s worth nothing if you don’t put it to action. That happens a lot, with people who explore philosophy and find satisfaction in it and think they make progress without putting it to action.

very true. personally has happened to me. thinking about everything isn't really practical- esp when you fall into this "idk and that's ok mindset" where you're not even finding something true you're just observing- so what's the point? i don want opinions i want straight up what is the truth. philosophy though can be helpful. stoicism is a wonderful way to look at life. this is the type of thinking i normally cater to- looking at the sky and being grateful for its beauty. not endless dialogues on online forums about nietchze or kant... though another benefit of philosophy-it has taught me to argue and be logical.
Great analyze and I like how rarely anyone speak about this but you did point out better than most people but there's one point I want to address is that when you said "it rarely give us the tools to move forward, reflection has it limits and when used as as substitute for action, it becomes a barrier to progress" For what I can tell is that reflection is also an action on it's own and can be use to understand yourself better and thus...helping us find the right pattern and a standard to do almost anything in life. Like wise there is a quote that you mentioned in the video "I think, therefore I am" in the most specify way is that everything that live also think...An insect think what can they eat and which predator to run away from which identify their own self. And I think it's better to interpret that Philosophy is just a way of living itself rather than a waste of time and energy contributing nothing to outside world. Philosophers spend all their day thinking because they are the best at it and they don't expect others to think all day like them, they expect others to live in an accordance based on their own moral standard. Thinking will only becomes a barrier to progress if no action is taken (true) But living without a clue or moment of clarity about what how you truly are designed for will only make us a nobody that know what the existential thought of what it means to live, we are differ from other living being because of it.

This has been my belief for the last year towards philosophy and philosophers. I am a communist, a political agitator, and right now I’m studying law because I want to actively change the systemic injustices in the world. Yes one needs to have a firm grasp on reality, their material conditions and those around them, an understanding of how the world and global economy works (including that of imperialism) but my friends who studied philosophy are pretty much just alcoholics who profess shit and do nothing. I’m so tired of fake and disingenuous academia. We need to be real with ourselves. We need to acknowledge where our goods and services are coming from and how a large majority come from over-exploited peoples and nations and we need to make a change.
Your position is literally rooted in a Philosophy, and a bad one. You are just another good example of why studying philosophy. If you don’t understand it, you are just a slave to any ideology.
@@Fireneedsair bro. Really think. How can you call the belief that the means of production being collectively owned by the people of society opposed to a few oligarchs who do anything and everything to maximize profits including but not limited to: exploitation, subjugation, enslavement, genocide, ecocide, coup de tats, etc. a “corrupt ideology.” You really think the system we have currently, capitalism, which has not only allowed, but perpetuated blatant government corruption and the subjugation of the masses is not a corrupt ideology? If you were to think critically, and perhaps read books, you’d realize the fact that the people have no say what is produced is actively destroying the planet. The US spends half of our budget on military production, which in turn forces the rest of the world to compete and spend massive amounts of finite resources on weapons of mass destruction which cumulatively means that a third, if not more, of our earths finite resources are going towards war and murder opposed to investing in what would advance humanity. The pure ideological form of communism is a stateless, classless, moneyless society in which people cooperate towards the furtherment of society, meanwhile, the core concept of capitalism is competition. Philosophy is nothing more than bitter personal experience and literal intellect recorded on paper as the alcohol begins to take effect and the word salad begins to flow. Alan Watts is a prime example.
