    I think Paul deliberately killed Makayla because he saw the promising future that she had. The love she was receiving from the family reminded him of his sisters

      He was a shining star, but got robbed of his future. He killed his sisters, and bil, who had lived shining lives; the aunt, who banned him; and the litte girl, who had a shining future. He would've killed the rest, but his guns jammed. He should've been locked up long ago.

    From 13-15 minutes made me so emotional because I can relate. I had OCD my whole life but it escalated when I was about to go to university. Suddenly I went from being the golden girl to being consumed by my own brain that I couldn’t focus on anything but surviving. Fast forward I am 27 and just started university again after getting my life back on track from the vicious grip of OCD. I’ve been having a bad week because my obsessions and compulsions are a little high the past few days and this just reminded me of how far I’ve gotten and that I have to keep going. OCD is a debilitating illness and the more people understand that it’s not just about being clean and tidy the more we feel less alienated. Thanks Payton for mentioning that cleanliness is not the only type of OCD out there. We appreciate it

      Yes!! This exactly!
      Thank you so, so much for representing OCD as the real and unseen mental disorder that it is. I have had it since a child, with my break happening at 15. I am now 28, and am in weekly therapy with daily homework. My turning point was finding an outpatient clinic that took me 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. It was literally my “job” for a year. I have a more complicated case due to suffering from severe BDD, which is also so misrepresented. These things can be debilitating, but also possible to manage with work! There is hope!

    In all honesty, I can’t say I blame the Sitton’s for sueing Paul’s parents. They knew he’d made threats to kill his sisters and other family members, that the aunt had banned him from her own thanksgiving the year prior, and who he was in general. It’s already rude enough to invite someone, to someone else’s house, day of… without consulting anyone… but knowing how dangerous he was, was crazy. Obviously I feel bad that they lost their kids, but the Sittons had every right to sue them.
    I really want to know why McKayla. They just met, she was already in bed, he left plenty of other survivors… I wonder if it was a mercy killing so she didn’t have to experience the trauma of waking up to find all that but maybe I’m giving Paul to much credit.
    He was so specific in who he killed, which makes it even clearer that it was planned.
    While I’m normally not a fan of people having kids 40+ (both my parents were 40+ when they had me and it led to a number of mental and physical health issues, as well as being far younger when my mum died) I’m glad they were able to have two daughters after the tragedy of losing McKayla.

    • @_lacyn_

      I think McKayla because he saw how promising her future was. He was obsessively jealous of his sisters.

    Paul’s parents had a lot of nerve trying to sue those people for letting him in their house when he wouldn’t have even known where they lived had they not taken it upon themselves to give him the address without even asking. This is terribly sad all around. That poor baby deserved to live.😢

    • @heezypeasy8611
      @heezypeasy8611 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Right?! That makes no sense. Why do they feel they have the right to place blame on them for opening the door. The whole thing may not have been completely avoided but it could have been delayed had they not given him the address.

    • @kellysmith1352
      @kellysmith1352 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Imagine if you’d told your son to come over, he’d travelled for a few hours & when he arrived, the house owners wouldn’t let him in! That would not have gone down well, the Dad would have likely argued with the house owners until they let the son in! The Dad cannot blame (& try and sue) the house owners!!! How ridiculous 😡😳 Such a sad story, this one 😞

    • @lencham2556
      @lencham2556 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      My thoughts exactly. He was out of line for even inviting Paul without getting everyone's consent. Nothing "may have" happened, but he still should have asked. He did not consider the feelings of his twin daughter who was still recovering from her loss and may not be ready to face her brother... He didnt care about the homeowners...I wouldn't want my address going to a person, family or not, who is mentally unstable. Especially if I had a child living at home. He was definitely wrong for his counter-suit especially with the devastation his son left behind.

    • @ambercarter2798
      @ambercarter2798 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Exactly and when you announce that someone is coming over it’s not like someone will be like no. They can’t come over cause then it looks bad. Don’t get why his parents sued them.

    A bit of info about the Florida mental health care system. I did my masters degree in counseling there and I worked at a psychiatric facility for individuals with severe conditions. There is one state hospital in Florida (at the time) and it is NOT a long term facility. My patients who needed long term residential care would cycle in and out of our system. They would come to our hospital, wait 3-6 months for a bed, be at the hospital for some time, and then be released only to have the whole thing happen again. Many of my clients could not care for themselves and would stay in this cycle for years. It was so sad and frustrating, and they deserved safe, long term care options in facilities. The mental health care system in Florida (and in many other states) fails patients and their families all too often.

    • @Unfriendlycatlady

      I’m sorry but mental illness and violence go very hard in hand together. It is part of mental illness whether it is directed at the self or others. It’s an integral part of mental health and one of the main aspects of focus a lot of the time. This man absolutely did premeditate you’re very right, and he should be locked up for a very long time- he was mentally ill but he absolutely knew what he was doing.

    I think parents find it hard to see that their children might be dangerous. There was a case in Australia of a young girl whose mother was told by her other daughter and many other people that she was not to be trusted and that there was something wrong with her. This mother babied her because she was very obviously struggling and let her get away with so much. She refused to put her in a place where she could get the help she needed.
    One night there was behaviours from this young girl who was now 16 years old, and the mother had had enough. The mother told her daughter that she was going to get help and that she would need to go somewhere to get that help. The 16 year old girl took a knife and decapitated her mother while her sisters young child was in the home.
    The 16 year old then called 000 in a quite matter of factly way said that her mother was dead and that it was not her fault. This girl knew exactly what she did even though she had mental problems. It was a tragedy that was avoidable if the mother had only been willing to see the truth and act accordingly.
    I think that denial plays a role in these cases and that in this case, is evidenced by the fact that the father said it was ok for him to come to the dinner. I am sure he obviously did not know this was going to happen but, he knew that the rest of the family was not comfortable with it. I believe the parents just wanted their son to be well and were in denial of how dangerous he was.
    This is a really sad case and one that will stay in the fabric of that community and anyone that was close to it or followed it in the media. Y

    Y'all. He said he'd been wanting to do this for 20 years, so that would've made him 15 years old. What happened at the age of 15 between him and his sisters and his aunt and possibly the Sittons (because since Makayla wasn't alive, I'm assuming he killed her to make them suffer, for whatever reason). At the age of 15, he was still considered the "golden boy". His mental illness hadn't developed yet, or at least it hadn't become severe enough to be detected. So yeah, I'd be interested in someone answering that question: what happened when he was 15??

    • @bunsbuns9072
      @bunsbuns9072 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I thought the same thing too. Maybe he was feeling alot of mental pressure from being the golden child (I can relate to that), but just hid it well. And when his life took the turn for the worse, it aggravated those negative feelings...especially since OCD isn't one the mental illnesses that tend to make people violent. He may have resented his family for a while and started lashing out when he realized that all that hard work and pressure was for nothing since his life went down the drain during college.

    I truly don’t believe OCD was the causing factor in this. I have OCD and have struggled with it my whole life. The only person I’ve ever blamed is myself even though it’s truly no one’s fault. I think his struggle with it created and escalated different mental health issues like depression, anger issues, or something more dangerous. I can’t imagine ever hurting someone else because they have a “better” life then me…. This is not to say OCD isn’t challenging and a struggle to deal with everyday.

    I just wanted to say that yeah OCD can 100% just come on randomly and suddenly. I definitely had mild obsessive compulsive tendencies when I was a kid that were just overlooked, but it didn't truly become a problem until mid 7th grade for me. I was 12 and it was like overnight my personality switched from this bright, confident, leader to an anxious wreck. I only got diagnosed now, years later, because it got to the point where I was struggling to function because I was spending hours obsessing.
    It really is terrible to go through and it makes you lose so many people because of how destructive it is. Thanks Peyton for mentioning that the obsession with cleanliness is not the only type of OCD! It is common for people with OCD, but not the sole qualifier. Additionally, to anyone afraid that OCD makes people a certain way-- please remember that those with mental health issues are more likely to be victims of crimes than criminals themselves. While mental health may sometimes have a role in these situations, that does not mean everyone with said disorder is going to harm those they care about. In fact, it is often the greatest fear of people with OCD!

    I am a turkey baby who was born on Thanksgiving Day back in 1988 and I definitely have to agree that turkey is just not very good at all 🦃😂
    This is such an incredibly heavy story that really got to me. What an evil man to methodically plan such a horrible massacre of his own family members on a day like Thanksgiving 😭

    Paul was clearly a threat to the family and the society, I wonder if the reason his parents didn't put him into psych ward was because they were embarrassed, only for him to bring even more shame to them

    I have never heard of OCD as an “excuse” to commit horrific crimes. I’m not saying it hasn’t happened, but it’s not something that is usually linked to crimes. You do hear of things like schizophrenia, personality disorders, things of that. But I do feel some sorrow for Paul if he did actually have mental disorders. It’s scary to think that some disorders can’t be cured and people have to resort to being put in a mental institution. I wish he would have ended up there before having the chance to harm innocent individuals. And let’s not forget, even those who didn’t lose their lives on that day, still live everyday with grief from those that were taken, and I’m sure many of them have ptsd.

    Hey you! I hope you are well! Just here to remind you: YOU ARE ENOUGH! If someone says you're "too much" tell them to go find less. You're not a burden, you're worthy of healing.
    I'm proud of you if all you did today was exist. Remember rest is productive. (And laziness doesnt exist)
    Whatever you're going through, you're gonna make it through this. You've got this. I believe in tou enough for both of us.
    Feed your inner child, you deserve to feel the joy that was ripped from your childhood. There is so much healing there.
    And remember: if ALL you did today was breathe?? You deserve and are worthy of nutrition and hydration .
    If you're still reading, go take your meds, drink some water and wash your a**. I love you. Its gonna get better hunny

    I’m not sure if anyone will see this, but if anyone is having a panic attack in the comments rn wondering if they could potentially harm others due to mental illness, please take a deep breath and, if needed, a step away from this story. I have severe OCD myself and have started treatment for it this year and it has changed my life. I want to comment to add some more information to the discussion of “why” this may have happened. Obsessional thinking associated with OCD is “ego-dystonic” meaning it goes against what that individual values. After extensive research into this disorder that has plagued my existence, I personally believe Paul does not have OCD, or he only has one subtype of OCD, being Contamination OCD. This would mean that Paul values his health and life and doesn’t want the consequences of being sick or giving that sickness to others. Based on what was said in the story, Paul often threatened not only his own life but the lives of others, leading me to believe that at the point of him making these threats, he may have developed a different disorder entirely. Yes, he could have had OCD at the onset of his mental breakdown, however, the final decision to harm others is not characterized under OCD. My point is we cannot and should not label this tragedy under an OCD breakdown. Paul chose to attend a dinner he knew he was unwelcome at. Paul chose to bring weapons with him to said dinner. Paul chose to wait until after dinner to go get these weapons out of his car. Paul chose to not only fire his gun once, but many many times. For those who do not have OCD, please try to understand that people who really are suffering with the disorder do not want the thing they are obsessing about to happen, and Paul is likely just a person who made a shitty decision. And to those with OCD, our disorder does not equal mass murder. Take care of yourselves, and please lmk if there’s anything I can better explain.

    Garrett, I love turkey and happen to have family that know how to perfectly cook turkey, however, there alot of people who do not like turkey 😋 😀 you are not alone....my granddaughters do not like turkey. The holiday is not about the meal its about the family all gathering at the table, updating about thier lives and the love shared with each other. Ham or turkey, chicken or an ordered 6ft sub sandwich just be thankful 🙏 the family could be together ❤ the holiday brings feelings of love and memories of past holidays, love you guys and look forward to Monday's to having you and Payton in my livingroom and would have whatever you wanted for Thanksgiving! Happy holidays to you both!!!

    I n March 9, 2010 at Dorado, Puerto Rico A 8 year old boy named Lorenzo Gonzalez Cacho was murder in his own home with his little sister being in the same room and his mother and older sister inside the house. Ana Cacho (Lorenzo mother) took him to the Treatment and Diagnostic Center in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Cacho arrived between 5:00 and 5:30 am with Lorenzo covered in blood. The child was pronounced dead at the clinic. Upon questioning, Cacho claimed that her son had fallen from his bed at their home in Dorado del Mar. However, this version was discarded by the autopsy which revealed severe injuries to the face and head, which included three stabbing wounds to the face. It is one of puerto ricos biggest unsolved case and has been covered up alot by the police.
