I'd happily buy a ticket to watch Gavin's soundcheck live. If there's a better sounding kit of drums and cymbals out there, I've yet to hear it. And his playing is simply mesmerizing.
Any time I can get onstage to noodle like this, after soundcheck, is golden, it makes such a difference to my show...getting the feeling of the riser, the kit, room, air etc.
Leave his brilliant musical relationship with “Porcupine Tree”, “The Pineapple Thief” and “King Crimson” to play with the remnants of “Rush”? That would truly be the musical equivalent of a “low rent move”. Based on this posit you’ve clearly been spared the ravages of critical thinking and intelligence. Wake up! Harrison is one of the finest drummers on the planet and his performances (especially with “Porcupine Tree” and “The Pineapple Thief”) are light years beyond anything Neil Peart ever did.
As much as I love everything about Gavins playing and composition ability, I think Todd Sucherman would be the best drummer for that situation, if it were to arise. Honestly, If Geddy & Alex were to do something, I think working with more than one drummer would be an interesting approach.

I've watched a lot of drum videos on you tube... there are many different styles, and some amazing drummers everywhere... somehow I keep coming back to Gavin Harrison.. and I'm a kind of speechless... it just looks so "easy", but he's playing such incredibly complex patterns and rolls... I'm fascinated by the ease which he does this with.. and his musical understanding is also fantastic. An absolute one-off drummer I think.........
Thank you Gavin for sharing this video ... we like so much your drumming since a lot of years ago for the first time with Claudio Baglioni and then with Porcupine Three, King Krimson and now Pinneaple Thief
I don't care who else comes and goes, this guy is the definition of "solid". And he is timeless, in terms of how he plays, in terms of how his drums sound. So nice to watch this video, thank you!
Great idea in regards to snare off for sound check! I will be trying this from now on. I love this guy! I learn so much, just saw him in Michigan AMAZING !
@@HerbalistGuybrush That's not entirely truth, you can make almost any drum set sound good with decent heads, and if you know how to tune the drums. Unreal! The toms are tuned so well. Funny I actually use that “Kentucky derby” tune to get my intervals where I want them. But his sound so much better. Also intrigued by the mics. A mix of all sorts of mics.
Thank you for this beautiful video Gavin Sir! Seeing you play at the start of 2020 is exactly the kind of motivation I needed to practice harder :D The kit sound is absolutely brilliant and your playing is a GOLDMINE of innovation! More videos please! Happy New Year!
