This 3D-Printed Meat Cuts Like Steak

  • Redefine Meat, a “meat alternative” startup out of Israel, makes their product using a highly technical process. The mix of soy and pea protein, chickpeas, beetroot, nutritional yeasts and coconut fat is formed into steak-like shapes using a 3D printer. Meat substitutes are not new, but unlike the soy-based crumbles that mimic ground beef, Redefine Meat’s product is designed to act, taste and cut like flank steak.

    Is it good for the environment? Maybe but is it affordable? Right now that is a resounding no. The problem with meat alternatives is that it's so damn expensive and quite a large portion of it tastes like cardboard or dry sponges even when seasoned well.

    • @SouthBeefTow
      @SouthBeefTow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. I’m all for meat alternatives but I could never afford them and they never taste that great. If they can get the flavor there and the prices down, I would be all over it.

    Who is this fake meat alternative for? Health conscious people? Vegetarian’s who want meat? People on a budget? Personally I never see myself buying soy meat or any “meat alternative”.

      The average person. Seeing as how the meat industry is mostly unethical and environmentally devastating. Getting everyone in the world to become vegans isn’t really realistic at least in this century. This is a better alternative. All they need to do is make it cheaper and more accessible and I would gladly switch over as a meat lover.

      I never thought I'd eat it but I tried it on a dare, it was good enough that I've eaten it since when I could but it's not the main thing I eat. I'm not so much into whether it's more ethical to animals but it makes sense how eating something that produces oxygen over its lifespan is better for the environment than eating something that produces C02 its entire life, and if I can't tell the difference taste wise it's like the least I can do to keep the planet habitable for future gens.
