"Lunch shaming" started up with the school year, as students shared the unappealing images online. Can you even tell what this is?

Some of them truly might not. When I was a teacher I was too busy during lunch talking with parents, doing makeup tests with students, etc. to visit the cafeteria. And school was out at 2:00, so I ate at home. I’ve worked in 3 schools and have never stepped foot in any of their cafeterias. 😬

Now that you say it... I remember how the orphans and financially unstable B40 kids in my school would get these free meal tickets that they present to the cafeteria. Sure enough, they usually hold out their hunger after recess (which we had at like at 10am) until they go back home to eat dinner at 7pm. Much better food though, they got rice and drinks.

My 7 yr old was also complaining about spoiled and nasty food and at first i thought she was being picky but during the pandemic when they were sending kids home with food i started to feel guilty because i realized she was right. They cant even take food to school because kids aren't able to use a microwave. Idk what to do. Now that my baby is in vacation she eats well and is definitely looking way healthier.

@@hippo4262 the food being brought to school from home would most definitely become not as fresh, and cold. Unless if you’re just bringing sandwiches, lunchables and snacks, (which to me sounds like a not so good meal) of course.
I’m Norwegian and I’ve never been served any food from school, we all just brought our own lunches that we quietly ate in the classroom bc we didn’t have a cafeteria. I recommend buying a lunchbox, and even one with a thermos bottle you can put soup in. You can make a pasta salad that’s usually eaten cold too. Or when I was not feeling like making my lunch for school I would just take some leftovers from dinner and eat that for lunch(but I was mainly just used to eating cold food).
I am so glad this is being brought to attention, when I try to tell my parents about the doors there feeding us at school they just tell us to be thankful. My friend in elementary got a raw pizza cruncher and I have gotten dirty fruit with mold in side and out.

it’s great to see people now standing up for themselves. We should not be getting feeded these types of foods and may even be a health risk. People weren’t saying anything so the schools just thought they were fine. It won’t end unless someone will always stand up and rise.
I’m forever grateful that my mom always took the time to pack my lunch as a kid. As I got older, I did it myself.

@@idkhowtomakeahandle a teacher of mine was telling us that they (past teachers) tried to get rid of it when it was first introduced but failed at the time. the school says it's because they don't want students to be afraid of having a food allergy reaction, but my teacher said it's because if we start bringing outside food in, the schools contract with the provider would be useless and the parents would request to stop paying for it.

They definitely do not value what their students eat health wise and safety wise and they're yelling at kids for going to the bathroom too long and shoving their phones in paper pags, stapling them shut cause the student was trying to message their mom about a problem. I've never had the good experience of having packed lunches, so I had to eat the school lunches, and if you told the school monitors you didn't want the lunch, they would bring it to you. Now I've gotten into the habit of just hiding in the restroom, where no one really goes cause it's blocked off.

This is sickening. I am blessed to be in a school that has good food. We have a pizza and burger bar, a taco bar, and a rotating selection bar that changes every week from chicken week to pasta week. No matter what bar you choose from, it’s delicious. I mean, they even serve FREAKING SMOOTHIES AND SLUSHIES(decent ones too). Compared to that, the food shown here is the literal embodiment of negligence, and whoever made it deserves to be fired and replaced with actual chefs.

That's another level of hard, i remember almost taking my school to court because they wouldn't let me get my dream hairstyle. But the school just let me have the hairstyle because it was too much trouble going to court, and they knew i had the money.
It should be a rule that at least every high ranking staff member in a school should eat the school lunch for at least 1 day. On a random one too so they can't cherry pick what they wanna eat.

Thats crazy... the highschool i went to didnt have the best tasting food but they were super strict on date checking and cleanliness. I dont get how staff is ok with serving mold when they know CHILDREN have to eat it. my middle school had a extreme incident where expired milks were being drank, they called people who had one to come up and get a new one. i even was one of the many of them. i was honestly disgusted. and even the other day i saw steak being served during picture day and NOBODY ate it. it looked like puke was poured over it, just horrifying and the idea of looking at it or thinking about it makes me wanna puke.
@@angieeena4848 that is not acceptable. My elementary school i attended in Ontario, Canada used the company Chartwells. The same one as in this video, the food was delicious, it was full plate of spaghetti and meatballs with chicken noodle soup on the side and either pudding or cake, with a drink that isn’t milk. It’s ridiculous that this is happening, you kids need to speak up. Publicly shaming the school or your schools board is sometimes the only thing that makes them do anything. They don’t like to look bad online and especially if you get your friends parents calling in they will have no choice.

I can honestly say going to school in the 80's early 90's most of the time our school lunches were pretty good. But we also had lunch ladies that knew how to cook & not short staffed because they wanted to work.

This is true and I chose hunger. I ended up only eating the bread and chocolate milk as a kid. If they had it.
How? If you have kids and live below the poverty line, then you get food stamps. If you live below a certain income level, your kids get free school lunch. And in some cases, breakfast too. There’s always soup kitchens and food shelves. So I don’t see how any modern child of any income level that’s in the public school system only has this meal each day, unless their parent is withholding their ability to eat. At which point, there is CPS. So please explain.

The worst part is that some kids can’t afford to bring their own lunch everyday or buy extra snacks to hold them over. So they’re either forced to eat whatever that’s SUPPOSED to be or starve until they get home. My elementary school did that here in Texas. They always sais "eat healthy" then give use bad food. One time we had burgers and the inside of the burger was still pink, and their pizza made me feel depressed because of how bad it was.

@@MYVloliDiruJP All the public schools I've attended from elementary to high school had delicious free breakfast and lunch, and those were C-F rated schools in Miami. I graduated high school in 2010. Only time I didn't eat school lunch was if I didn't go to school.

I mean, seriously, I feel like I'm taking everything for granted. The food at my school in Gernany is super, tasty, healthy and diverse, and whilst I truly appreciated that, I never felt thankful and lucky about it. Never in my life did I think that my school lies in the minority with the worst of the schools serving almost inedible stuff for meals.

Our school wouldn’t let us go off campus to get food but we luckily had a deli right next to the hs. Lucky my mother always gave me money to get some food, Jesus was I blessed 💀

Yeah man it sucks when I was in elementary school the school told us that if we get anything from the cafeteria during lunch and there’s bread we have to check the bread for any mold because many students reported that the bread had mold on it so WE had to check it cuz the school wouldn’t bother to do so this is why I bring my own lunch

I’m glad we were allowed to go off campus for lunch when I was in high school. The cafeteria food wasn’t nearly as bad, but it was nice to have choices.

Granted, if you weren’t old enough to drive yet you’re still fairly limited to how far you can go, but within a short walking distance there was Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Dollar Tree, Popeyes, Chinese Food, Checkers, the Deli, Pizza Shop, Jamaican food, etc. Anywhere else, ask for a ride.
