    Amazing progress, Keith! I'm glad you came up with ideas why the subframe was bent like that, I was scratching my head for ages!

    Hi Keith, great going getting the subframe out! Hopefully shouldn't be too much trouble sorting them 'kinks' out. Super clean underneath hey! Piece of mind too. Great stuff as always 😊

    Hiya Keith-hope your well. Just gets better Tardis. Got a funny feeling that you will re-spray underneath though! Great little Mini that will last and look good for years to come.

    Well impressed with the condition of the underside of Tardis, I’ve seen exactly the same damage to a subframe and know you’re spot on with your theory cos I did it myself before I knew any better….lesson learned but there was no room to get the wheels off and rear brakes released needs must🙁
    Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 👍😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 keep those masks on for a while longer the delta is rife up beside me just now 🙁

    5:55 i managed to pick up a used but in fabulous condition negative (think about it) battery cable for my 62. It even had the cloth tape still around it where it goes around the subframe/heal board area

    Its nice to see something original removed. The subframe toes board bolts have a cutting style thread on them which i've not seen before and then the pads on top of the subframe. Wonder how much of this relates to a mk1

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure what year they changed the bolts but the purpose of them was to preserve the thread

  • @maverick4177
    @maverick4177 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’d clean that right up and use some of the Bilt Hamber clear wax to seal it 👍🏻

    You can actually get brake pipe union stop ends you can use to blank them off too. Sounds like you've laid down a gauntlet for me for rear subframe removal 😅😂

    I am taking notes on all this car so I have a fair idea what Noah would have looked like! I forgot the factory used those sound pads on the rear subframe.
    Just a thought on those 4 heelboard bolts that came out so well: They are self cutting bolts and Triumph use them on their bikes in aluminium castings. Great for production lines! They are not really re-usable. So it may be worth checking if yours are. I would use standard high tensile bolts with long shanks.

      @classicminiworkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I couldn't quite remember why they used those serrated type subframe bolts. Do you know what the pads were for on the subframe? I thought they were there to stop the subframe hitting the boot floor. There is a gap but assumed that over bumps when the bushes compress maybe the frame gets close to the floor?

    • @1chish
      @1chish 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@classicminiworkshop When the car is on its wheels the bushes compress and especially so the older they get. That pushes the subframe into the boot floor and 'bump thump'. I am using Poly bushes just on the rear subframe and without knowing it I made the pads redundant! Not that I had any. 😂 If you are using rubber bushes I would re use your pads as they are in good nick and its factory.
      While you are under the boot floor check the oblong double skinning plates between the heelboard and the shock absorber indents. They are rust traps. They were used for the wet Mini bump stops but they just made all the bodyshells the same. Right above them there is a strengthening bracket inside the boot. Another rust trap.
      Mark will need to fabricate something as Heritage boot floors do not have them fitted.

    11:33 So i mentioned the over spray on the battery box? Has the underside of that boot floor been rust protected with some sort of under body protection?

  • @paulrobinson3528
    @paulrobinson3528 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    2:33 you doing anything with the over spray on the battery box? looks horrid Keith

    • @classicminiworkshop
      @classicminiworkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes probably will, the rear valance has been sprayed badly in the past
