I bought this yesterday and i'd like to point out to anyone looking to buy this: It's solid, heavy weighted and feels very premium. It's buttons are positioned perfectly and I found that I could reach everything I wanted to, with ease Try mapping the throttle to the center mini-stick your thumb rests on for one-handed flight This is compatible with windows 10 even though it doesn't say so on the box. It's plug and play, no hassle and it even works with Google Earth Flight Simulator on your chrome browser :) just go to settings and select joystick.
Hello lads! Here is my number one tip for your Logitech X3D PRO use. (I have been flying with mouse for 4.5 years in milsim units) -If you are a former mouse pilot, up that sensitivity to 2.4-3 on Yaw and Pitch! Helps to mimic that fine grain control you would have with a mouse. To buyers, this joystick is great, not the best, but great! Highly recommended.
I find it really difficult to land the heli now but i can manuever better, i just cant get use to raising and lowering the collective through the paddle :/ any suggestions other than just practicing with it?
FYI if you want to use the throttle as intended, i.e. incremental increase in power as you move up the throttle, then you must use collective analogue mapping.
+Saracen Gaming : Analogue doesn't work very well. It behaves just like two buttons. Increasing the throttle while it is up but the position doesn't correspond to the throttle at all. it makes it hard to tell where the throttle is set at and is very unintuitive. I describe how that works between 5:10 and 5:45
Yeah i mustn't have listened properly. Seems to be working ok for me though with this stick. Though as you say i think it would work better with a deedicated throttle with a larger area of travel. Such a small flick of a throttle isn't the most ideal. Better than nothing though!
Hello I'm pretty new to ArmA III and I'am hoping that that you might be able to point me in the right direction. Questions: how do you enable the active radar that shows like in HUD view like in time index 2:04 to 2:46 or is that from an update and if so where would I fine that update? If time permits could you do a video on how obtain this options. Thank You for any help you can give. DAD2/7RCAF
Also, do you know of a hotkey to change ammo (not weapon) in helicopter gunner? You can cycle weapons in the Kajman from gun to rocket and back, but you have to use the mouse wheel menu to change the cannon from HE to AP and back. Is there a key that changes that ammo? I'm not seeing it in Arma config
Sensitivity calibration doesn't work well for me in Arma 3. I've found that doing the calibration in FS9, then closing FS9 and starting Arma 3 gives much better results, not sure how or even why it works, but it does for me. Have to repeat the process, however, every time I do a computer restart.
Question when you got the hat to mapped to free look, how do you use the gun turret? As the gun turret should be tracking the head and where you look, but i think free look kinda cancels the head tracking
Question: What do you use for zoom in / zoom out when you're the gunner position looking through optics? Your zoom button shown here works in non-optics mode only, right? I'm trying to find a configuration optimized for both piloting and gunning, so I'm going to have to use the top 4 buttons for zoom in / zoom out zero up / zero down and move the other less used items to your open buttons on the base. Since I don't go around putting my flaps or gear up and down during normal flight and I don't ever play a helicopter without a gunner (I'm just playing King of the Hill right now) I'll probably leave that stuff on the keyboard / context menu
Burnrate Thanks for the reply. I realized I'd never be able to fully abandon the keyboard so I went for a focus on quick target acquisition and just left zoom in/out and zero up/dn on the top 4 buttons, and "next weapon" on the thumb button. I just use the default keyboard keys for everything else. I put novelty things that I hardly ever use on the base of the joystick like gear, flaps, auto hover, eject, etc. Seems to be the best mix and provide a consistent experiece across tank / gunner / commander, helo / gunner, jet, etc
when i try to change my settings and bind my joystick controls to the helicopter movement, as soon as i go out of settings to play it just deletes the bindings so my joystick doesnt work
lagrafx I have read about that before but haven't had it happen myself. I don't remember what it was but somewhere there is a workaround to avoid it. My google-fu has failed me for the moment.
Josh Jondle I did read some stuff. I think changing the connection to a USB2 port might help. Also maybe unplugging and plugging it back in may make it show again so you don't have to restart ARMA. This is the bug discussion on the bohemia site: feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=14924. Hope you can fix it!
lagrafx i have a problem because i used logitech profiler so i can set keybinds for an axis so i could configure the joystick for using it in gta v, but it didn't work out so i used a controller for it, then i uninstalled the profiler program but now if i try to bind x, y and z axis it just says NUM8 (Y+ axis), NUM5 (Y- axis), NUM6 (X+ axis) and then x- axis is numpad 4 and yaw is a and d, but how do i fix this? because i want my smooth controls back!!
+MrProfilen Yep, collective is what you would think of as throttle. I find it better to Not use the analogue options for the collective raise and lower.
For me the analog works best. If I choose the normal one, it will be like a button press. So if I put it up it will go gradually, and it is hard to find the centre where it won't change the throttle. But analog Will be like from 0% to 100%, so if you go to the middle it will be 50% or 1/4 will be 25%. (Not analog) Will keep going up/down slowly if it is over/under the centre of the slide. And the centre is hard to find.
How do you combine keybindings with Y-32 and Jet key's? Yesterday I set the increase thrust(analogue) and Brake(analogue) with Plane settings. This makes the Y-32 incredibly harder to control compared to the regular ''increase'' and ''decrease thrust'' This is while the increase thrust(analogue) and brake(analogue) is way more efficient with planes. How do you have this set up, or should I just switch between presets if I switch to plane or Y32?
I guess the game considers the Y-32 as a plane and not a helicopter at all. Maybe someone has a mod that switches controls schemes when you switch between vertical and regular flight? Or a mod that makes the Y-32 use helicopter controls all the time?
Any tips for the collective raise/ lower because sometimes i just want to fly at a consistent altitude and with the lever at the bottom its either raise/lower never in the middle. Tips?
Ben Smothermon Check out where I describe the collective setup at about 5:10 in the video. The middle position should be hover. th-cam.com/video/tXakDLp4Zlw/w-d-xo.htmlm10s
Anyone else having problems with joystick or controller? When i move the joystick to any direction it gives 50 ish % of normal pressing keys..It's annoying. Any thoughts on how to fix that? (I've tried experimenting with senstivity already , didn't worked)
Polish Buddy I believe you have auto hover on then, it won’t allow you to have much control. You can turn it off with scroll wheel or by binding an on off button for it.
about that profiler, i have a problem because i used logitech profiler so i can set keybinds for an axis so i could configure the joystick for using it in gta v, but it didn't work out so i used a controller for it, then i uninstalled the profiler program but now if i try to bind x, y and z axis it just says NUM8 (Y+ axis), NUM5 (Y- axis), NUM6 (X+ axis) and then x- axis is numpad 4 and yaw is a and d, but how do i fix this? because i want my smooth controls back!!
ok I downloaded the software,,i got the profile page with joystick on there,,i created new profile, now for the game I had to find,,i went into steam apps, then common,,then I scrolled to bottom were the arma 3 icon was above the aet up ect,,the only arma 3 folder that it would allow me to pick,,all the other ones just kep opening up until the arma 3 icon let me pick it and choose icon for the folder,,ok,assuming I did that correct,,how the hell do I use it,,it wont activate in game,,i went into controller ,and its in there I click on it,,i even customized it,,sensitivity options ect,,I click ok,,and go back to game,,still wont let me use joy stick, only mouse/keyboard
+Nixu Yeah, at 4:38 it shows the collective being mapped to the joystick. Let me know if that answers the question. If you aren't using a joystick you will probably want to map the collective raise and lower to the analogue options .
I like it because I can instantly set the collective to where I want and also know exactly where it is but look or feel of the slider position. Of course what feels comfortable and intuitive to each person is more important!
Are you using advanced flight model? If you do I believe the chopper has torque twist from the propeller. Try to turn off advanced mode and tell me if that worked
I'm a disabled vet, I just bought the Logitech Extreme 3d pro. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get it to work in my Arma 3 Apex game. Can anyone please make a video showing how? PS I'm 57 years old, and this tech stuff is Greek to me. Thanks for any help you can provide!! I'm also fighting to get my headset working as well.
Invest in TrackIR, and never look back. :D (..see what I did there..) Also, 'Zoom' can be achieved by simply, leaning toward the monitor (u can profile the rate etc). Very easy and intuitive.

Good information, well presented, included a schematic I could pause on, and no three minute long video intro. You are a TH-cam hero, sir.

there is a way that iu can u share the file settings that i can use?
Yes you can use. pastebin.com/
Used this guide in 2024 thank you
Would these controls work on jets too?

Josh Jondle I don't know if there is a good combo configuration. If I'm a gunner I would go full mouse and keyboard.
Burnrate Thanks for the reply. i have the same model for joystick as you do, but it doesnt work i press to bind buttons, on battlefield my joystick worked perfectly
My only problem with this flight stick is that it's not ambidextrous or they didn't make a left version. That would have been perfect for me
when i try to change my settings and bind my joystick controls to the helicopter movement, as soon as i go out of settings to play it just deletes the bindings so my joystick doesnt work
Have you had any issues with checking control configuration mid-game and then having the X3D just disappear from the controllers list?
lagrafx I have read about that before but haven't had it happen myself. I don't remember what it was but somewhere there is a workaround to avoid it. My google-fu has failed me for the moment.
lagrafx It happens to me every time as well, haven't had a chance to look up the fix yet, so if you find it, reply to this comment :)

Hi. What is raise/lower collective for the slider? That is just throttle basically, yes? Trying to set up my joystick and that looks awesome!
+MrProfilen Yep, collective is what you would think of as throttle. I find it better to Not use the analogue options for the collective raise and lower.
+Burnrate So, don't use raise/lower anologue, but the other one? Gotcha.
Everytime I would set up my hotas be able to fly the helicopter and etc and then as soon as I would come off the game it would all reset.
For the Colective rise or lower is it Collective Rise (analog) or is it just Collective Rise?
just the raise, not analogue. I talk about why I like it that way around four minutes I think
Never mind
And thanks
For me the analog works best. If I choose the normal one, it will be like a button press. So if I put it up it will go gradually, and it is hard to find the centre where it won't change the throttle.

What is your setting for your joystick sensitivity?
The Collective is NOT 'giving the engine more power' its the pitch of the main rotor blade
Did i say that? I should have said "like" or "similar to" giving the engine more power or something like that. I know better!
Burnrate Oh yea I got it. Thanks.
T16000 here i never use autohover only when slingloading
Have this one, I just double tap alt so I can use my mouse to freelook when I need, my hand is almost always on the mouse actually.
Thanx for a great video, gonna buy that stick today =)
im getting it in 3 days, hows it been working out for you?
Anyone else having problems with joystick or controller? When i move the joystick to any direction it gives 50 ish % of normal pressing keys..It's annoying. Any thoughts on how to fix that?

Polish Buddy I believe you have auto hover on then, it won’t allow you to have much control. You can turn it off with scroll wheel or by binding an on off button for it.
what is your X3D sens ingame?
How do I play Arma, because I cant use my joystick without launching the game from the profiler.
Make sure it is plugged into a USB2 port and no usb power saving options are on.
about that profiler, i have a problem because i used logitech profiler so i can set keybinds for an axis so i could configure the joystick for using it in gta v, but it didn't work out so i used a controller for it, then i uninstalled the profiler program but now if i try to bind x, y and z axis it just says NUM8 (Y+ axis), NUM5 (Y- axis), NUM6 (X+ axis) and then x- axis is numpad 4 and yaw is a and d, but how do i fix this? because i want my smooth controls back!!
can you please post download link for the file config?
Why would you make a video on this and not share the actual preset file so we can just download and use in arma?
Great video! How do i drive as pilot in multiplayer??
ok I downloaded the software,,i got the profile page with joystick on there,,i created new profile, now for the game I had to find,,i went into steam apps, then common,,then I scrolled to bottom were the arma 3 icon was above the aet up ect,,the only arma 3 folder that it would allow me to pick,,all the other ones just kep opening up until the arma 3 icon let me pick it and choose icon for the folder,,ok,assuming I did that correct,,how the hell do I use it,,it wont activate in game,,i went into controller ,and its in there I click on it,,i even customized it,,sensitivity options ect,,I click ok,,and go back to game,,still wont let me use joy stick, only mouse/keyboard
+GET YOUR GAME ON HD I've only ever set up the controls from inside the game; not sure to what you are referring to.
Make one for planes/ jets please it would be so helpful.
Can you control the torque? instead of 100% and 0% can u be at example 65% torque?
+Nixu Yeah, at 4:38 it shows the collective being mapped to the joystick. Let me know if that answers the question. If you aren't using a joystick you will probably want to map the collective raise and lower to the analogue options .
+Burnrate okay thanks. im thinking to get this joystick i was only worried thay its only up 100% and down 0% so no really control of the torque.
I dislike the slider for collective. I like shift and Z so much better
I like it because I can instantly set the collective to where I want and also know exactly where it is but look or feel of the slider position. Of course what feels comfortable and intuitive to each person is more important!
I did use the slider for a little bit, so I can see where you're coming from, but when I try to land with the slider, everyone laughs at me xD.
I plugged in my joystick and it wont register what do i do?
Btw its a x3d pro
+jhonny kristensen call the manufacturer i guess? maybe email them.
Use USB 2.0 (not 3.0 - Blue coloured )
This is amazing thanks so much for the help man
If I was to buy a joystick and use it for Arma 3, would i still be able to use my keyboard for when I'm outside of the chopper?
+Ohh Drop : Yep. You don't have to unplug it or anything. It works just the same :)
+Burnrate thanks :D
Burnrate do you recommend using a joystick for flying, if so, which one?
+Drop I'd imagine he recommends the Logitech x3D
+Mike Munro do you play Arma?
How do I get it to show up in my configure controllers
you might need to install the drivers, and make sure it is plugged in before starting the game.
+Burnrate it's picking it up on my steam configuration but it won't show up in the game
+Burnrate i'm using a Mac also, because it is working in my steam but when I turn on the game it does not show up in the configure
+willied88m hmmm, I've never used steam for that. can you disable the steam thing and see if it works? worth a try maybe
+Burnrate thank you for your help I'm going to mess with it and see what I can do I did sub you
when I use it I just flip cuz my joystick colibration thing is broken
then calibrate it...
really helpful tutorial.
the pov gave me a headache
thanks:)
do you mean being in first person wasn't so good?
Thank you good sir
My helicopter wont stop turning left.
same did you ever fix it i need help with dat
Never figured it out.
Are you using advanced flight model? If you do I believe the chopper has torque twist from the propeller. Try to turn off advanced mode and tell me if that worked
thank you very mach!!!!
its very very fun!!

I this is late but do you still need help?
Great help
Wow... I want this but it's frickin expensive
thx
hi mate is there anyway you can share the file settings you use ? you still play arma 3 ? if so feel free to add me on steam joshhopey
Invest in TrackIR, and never look back. :D (..see what I did there..)

Awesome review... till you said "Logitech is Cheap"...
Well compare it to the warthog hotas or something. It's less than a tenth of the price. It's a really good value.
Yup. Youre right actually hahah, 40 USD. That gadget must be seriously the most cheap thing in the whole logitech Store... Hotas is 200USD+
Wow I bought it when it was new and at that time the price were a 100 USD
I'm have the same joystick
I have problem with trust i can have 100% and 0%trust nothing more
nevermind it works
