    Using the tougher Barnett clutch springs in this vid.
    I have since upgraded further to EBC CBR600RR clutch springs (CSK101).
    Always make sure your clutch lever has slack in it. If your clutch springs are pushing your clutch lever to full extension, even barely, there's every chance you will be experiencing clutch slip. Always have a few mm of complete empty slack in the clutch lever. The sort of slack that means the lever flops around that last few mm and will only get to full extension if you push it with your fingers.
    I can't stress this enough. It caused me a lot of grief trying to figure out what my clutch slip issue was and I was already mindful of the importance of keeping slack in the clutch lever. Turns out what I thought was slack wasn't complete slack.
    If you are experiencing clutch slip despite having plenty of slack in the clutch lever, using tougher clutch springs, using the adjusted length pull rod for 2018-2019 models and your clutch stack of steels and friction plates are still within wear spec thickness (21.23mm thick),
    Clean off your clutch steel plates with some degreaser, get some 400 grit wet sandpaper and sand your clutch plate steels radially under a trickle of water until they are buffed up. Wipe them off well. You should be good to go again after that.

    Wow I used to watch your MC22 vids years ago, dreaming of the day I'd get my license and buy one. Now I've bought an '18 400 KRT and I recently wanted to try wheelies. Yours is the first vid it recommended, love that full circle moment 😆

    Hey bro nice wheelies. I been trying to get my ninja 400 up and it seems impossible. I’m pretty much just jerking the bike. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong maybe my clutch is too spongey? First gear I can barely get it up and second gear the bike just refuses to go up. Any tips would be appreciated.

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Don't even try second gear, waste of time.
      In 1st, rev the bike higher, dump the clutch. If the clutch isn't biting fairly quickly, and the grab zone is too long, you'll have trouble.

    • @drew420prado

      @SportbikerNZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@drew420prado if you are dumping the clutch, and it's not biting fast enough, upgrade the clutch springs. If it still doesn't grab, you'll probably need to change your clutch plates and steels.

  • @emilygooden6739
    @emilygooden6739 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Everybody explains how to get the bike up but nobody ever says how to set it back down. What do I do? Roll off the throttle? Pull in the clutch? Press the rear break? I dont want to find myself in a wheelie and not know how to get out of it.

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not something you need to think about.
      You'll find when you actually start doing little learner wheelie hops that you immediately bring the front wheel down with your throttle.
      On a longer wheelie chasing the balance point, the bike will bring itself back down as it runs out of power to keep the wheelie up, or hits the end of 1st gear.
      It pays to keep the rear brake in mind if the wheelie gets too far back, but I've found the throttle has more than enough engine braking in 1st.

  • @IiiIiiII-y2v
    @IiiIiiII-y2v ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Stock except with tougher Barnett clutch springs. Also if you have the 2018-2019 model, make sure you get the 2020+ clutch pull rod and pull rod bearing so you can get full wear from the clutch plates.
      When you dump the clutch, it should bite hard. I found after doing several wheelies in a row the clutch gets hot and the bite takes longer, making it more difficult, so need to let it cool a bit. Probably I wouldn't have that problem if the clutch plates were new/newer.

      A cheap Ali Express unit with a few extra holes drilled in the baffle. Has been perfect except the midpipe cracked after roughly 20,000km. I think the dealer put tension on it when they reinstalled the exhaust slightly off after some warranty work.

    Awesome dude. How are you pulling it up at such low RPMs?

    • @SportbikerNZ
      @SportbikerNZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Could be my weight and having the throttle open further at that point of dropping the clutch. Also the clutches on these can become spongy after a bit of use, and have an 'elastic' engagement point instead of a real sharp engagement. If the clutch is a bit softer it will be harder to pop it up.

      @@cameronbarratt-boyes5152 Yeah it's done over 30,000k's and I'm happy with it. The midpipe it came with broke on a weld, but I think that was because a mechanic had tensioned the pipe sideways when they reinstalled the exhaust on the wrong side of a mounting bracket.
      The replacement midpipe was cheap to buy so no biggy.
      The muffler itself did have seam sealer pushed out of various crevices for a bit, but that's now cleared up.
