Rather than burning those branches you should use them to build weave fences for around the garden. That's a lot of good biomass that is just going to waste being burned. If you can buy a tractor and a wood splitter then a chipper should be a breeze. I use a DR Chipper myself. You might be able to get the sponsor you and get a chipper out of it for free.

    • @HiddenValleyHomestead

I have to agree.. I plan on chipping more than burning for chips to use for mulch to spread on pathways and for the garden!. Great comment.

@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving We had a small wood stove and i was told not to burn pine in it because it builds up creosote in the chimney, but I did just look up about useing it and it seem that you can burn pine. It's a faster and hotter burning wood because its not as dense of wood like the hard woods ash,oak maple. Keep up all your hard work and I can't wait to see the progress you make on your home front. Be safe.

Seth - you are an awesome son! I'm a father, grand-father, and a great-grand-father so I have some experience with young men. Any man would be proud to have a son like you. You always seem to have a smile, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. Watching you assembling the splitter and cutting down the tree, you have been taught well, a tribute to your dad and to you also, because you have a hunger to learn. You will be a fine man. One piece of advice my dad told me: Learn something new every day, because if you don't learn something, you've wasted a day. You can learn something from everyone if you try. God bless you!! All father and son relationships are different,
    some are warm and fuzzy,
but with some it seems like the offspring are treated like "employees"
like a really formal relationship, and the parents seem distant.
But whatever the relationship, the kids look up to parents, so the parents have to be really good examples.
That's what I see happening, here in these videos, you guys setting good examples, and giving him challenging jobs to do, jobs that he does really well.
And with your encouragement, I feel sure that Seth's self respect grows with each job that he does,
and he feels good that you trust him.
I bet that he feels pretty good after successfully doing the tasks that you give him
A young fellow's opinion of himself is just so important.

And suddenly, you'll find EVERYTHING goes on pallets ! I've been using forks for 25 years to move logs, brush, pallets, stacked lumber, sawmill slabs, crates, almost endless variety of things. They stay on my tractor 90% of the time.

Then we ate them for a couple of weeks after. Have to get restocked with a pick up order from Fred Meyer this weekend though. Glad they have that kind of service right now as we plan to use it throughout this year even though the grocery stores have the special senior shopping hours.

Be careful. Lot of times hay/grass/weeds/leaves/etc will build up, especially in front of the radiator because the engine fan sucks air back thru the front of it and light weight trash tends to accumulate on the radiator front (many newer tractor have a removable screen to trap it, keep from blocking the radiator fins). One spark floats in the front, and you'll get an engine fire pretty quick. I mounted a fire extinguisher to my roll bar for just such a case.

How do you clear your stumps? Living in a pine forest myself, I use a post hole digger and dig several 2-3 ft deep post holes close around the trunk, then use a water jet from a garden hose to wash all the soil from around all the small side feeder roots into the post holes, clean out the holes and repeat. Once you have a hole all around the stump, pack it with scrap wood from the tree and set it on fire. feed it enough to keep the fire smoldering for 2-3 days and it will burn the stump and tap root to 3 feet underground. Back fill the hole and no more stump...No Chopping roots and no back hoe or stump grinder needed, helps to get rid of all the tree scrap and is is free. I have done about 2 acres that way for the house and barn, burning several stumps at a time.
