The roar of the crowd and the air raid siren at the old Civic Arena in the breakaway clip gives me goosebumps. I got to experience that in person as a teenager and it was magical.

Its amazing how you can find most playoff games in 2001, even quite a few regular season games. But the 2001 series against washington is non-existent (except game 6). Even 2000 series the year before has most games on youtube
Someone need to make a video of Mario’s passes. As good of a passer as Gretzky. He did not start his career playing on a team with 7 hall of famers. He started on the worst team in nhl history. So he had to score them instead
Wasn’t no new team. Lol !! There were 6 Oilers amongst the top 10 scorers of the 1980s. The oilers were an offensive juggernaut. 12-3 and 10-1,blow-out and stat padding every night. You weren’t born yet.
Hey Patrice his first year gretzky didn't have kurri no Coffey no Anderson and still had over 50 goals and won the hart as a first year player something mario failed to do , so do some research before you open your mouth and sound stupid
In Wayne's first two years he played 159 games and had 301 points. Over those same two years Messier, Lowe, Coffey, Kurri and Anderson (the 5 hall of famers responsible for every single point Wayne ever had) played a combined 497 games and had a grand total of 318 points between them. In Coffey's first two years in Edmonton he had a points per game average of .785 while it was 1.487 in his first two years in Pittsburgh. Messier had 33 and 63 points in his first two seasons. Not exactly the numbers of immediate hall of fame status. Aside from Wayne, the Oilers drafted their core. The Pens brought in a bunch of experienced, proven all star scorers so Mario could get a cup, because he wasn't going to win one any other way.

He earned every inch. No player in the 100 year history of the game demanded as large of a radius with the puck as Lemieux did. If you encroached his radius he was already 2 or 3 steps ahead psychologically and had the raw talent, athleticism, vision and reach to embarrass you out of your jockstrap nearly 100% of the time. After a while, players wouldn't even try. Easily the most naturally gifted athlete to ever tie them up. Not just a gem in regards to hockey, but all pro sports. One of the all time great one man gangs in the history of all team sports.
@@deemzcello1431 Add prime Stevens, Jagr who was gifted from his first shift, Recchi, Tocchet, Francis, Murphy, Coffey, and Barasso's last few good years, and you'll see why those early 90s Pens were incredible. Just a shame that Stevens had his face broken against Pilon. Heavily accelerated the drop off for those teams.
If never had back issues and cancer an was able to play more games he woulda crushed all the records.. he has shit ton of goals with not many games played vs the likes of gretzky
Are you questioning Lemieux’s greatness? The ONLY thing that kept Lemieux from Gretzky’s records were injuries. How would Wayne do against the goalies today?
poor ol' Casey
The most skilled player of all time, in my opinion anyway.
Agreed!
Best and most skilled player ever. I think Bobby Orr said the same thing. Gretzky was the greatest, but Lemieux was the best.
I Still believe He is the greatest player of all time.
Yeah ... Orr , Gretzky and Lemieux the 3 most skilled players
If only he was healthy for more of his career
Love how Mario always congrats his teammates after each spectacular goals he made, like they did all the work. Class act.
Great watching Lemieux goals with Mike Lang calling the shots. So glad there were so many years enjoying both!!
Greatest scorer ever in the purest sense
Thank u so much..Mario is my all time favorite...guy was the best
Awesome video especially with Lange calls on some of the goals

smoothest player ever . he was stick handling when in mother's womb already . natural . absolutely made it look effortless .
Just a better version of Beliveau which is hard to believe
Bobby Hull , a version cannot be of a inferior .
@@tomasbleho1775 that’s doesn’t make any sense

In the words of Dan Patrick" You can't stop him ,you can only hope to contain him"
Thank you so much for putting this all together 🙏.
His hockey IQ along with some really soft hands made him the player he was. Some incredible strength (physically as well as inner) certainly helped.
Pneumonaultramicroscopicvolcanoconiosis I
Yep.
So few know that Mario used to smoke like a chimney.
That size and reach didn't hurt either
That reach omg!
I liked it when Lemieux wore his original Tron movie helmet. Those were the days.

Lemieux with his hockey 🏒 stick is Thor with his hammer⚒️ IMO🤫Lemieux the most skilled hockey player of all time.
Mario destroys Hasek at the 10:30 mark
That's him saying "I remember 1992." Hasek made his name by stonewalling Jagr and Mario in game 4.
Lemieux, Jagr and Kovalev on the same line…. 🥶 ouch !! Tough to beat that
Halfway through 2 comments. First Hextall is our GM now. Hmmm. And that breakaway against Bourque. Fucking gold.
Big heads getting in the way !
“Look at this. Mario Lemieux coming to center. Trying to fool Bourque and does. Look out!”

Poor Ray Borque and Andy Moog in 1992. At least they recovered to extend their careers.

Gretzky started in an expansion team, most of the future HOFamers you mentioned weren't even there yet.

This is great! Is there a part 2?
There isn’t a part 2 and there won’t be a part 2. If I ever get enough footage for the missing clips, I’ll remake this video someday.

Ask ray bourque about that didnt matter covering him with that reach was impossible to stop him

He would do something different .. and likely still score

Go look at how he did from 2001-2003 and age 35-37. Pretty damn well after being retired for almost 4 years.
The year he came out of retirement, put up 76 points in 43 games at the age of 35. I’d say he did pretty well against bigger goalies.
Did anyone in Pittsburgh understand how to place a camera?
Every goal is blocked by doofus’s standing.
