Corey, actually home sewing is experiencing a real comeback. It is fun to watch, I am 62, have been sewing since I was 12-13, and seen so many changes. There are not as many small fabric stores, and even the big stores like Joann are really struggling in spite of lots of young people discovering the hobby. I do notice on their channels that lots of the newcomers are seeking unconventional ways to obtain fabric, like charity shops , and scavenging fabric from items that are worn.
I love Joanns and I hate seeing their stores struggle but they are so expensive in general that I don't usually buy my crafts from there.
I'm 65 & have been sewing since around 12 or 13! I love seeing sewing making a comeback. The schools have dropped it from their curriculum. I've thought of offering teaching classes. I have enough machines that I could teach a few at a time. I don't know if anyone would be interested .
@@nitagail77that’s a great idea but I would t do it from my home unless you know the parents. Maybe from the school or a church? Community center? But great idea!
Me too! Will be 69 next month. Sewing from about 10 but mother had me on her treadle at 5 making paper stamps. Doll blankets etc. But was doing family mending like sewing buttons on and hemming early too by hand. I taught myself to fix vintage machines only 4 years ago. Because we also moved to rural high desert in So Cal. As soon as all in this town of 2,000 found out I sew Ive been given entire grandmas sewign rooms 5 times, a lot of jeans as I sell and make bags and totes along with a few other upcycles and now have 10 machines! I have tried teaching several times but they become no shows. I offered first 8 hours free, usually in 2 or 4 sessions. If they cant make that then no. Im thinking to do a specific workshop. A no sew tote or simple sew one. There are quilters but found they dont understand clothing construction. Why Im the town mender which I dont want to be! I also have some peeves. One is no glue in sewing! I can see for a few things but it wont last and cant wash.
@@DesertDIYIve upcycled thrifted a lot of my life but stopped buying yardage at stores as its bad quality for $20 a yard. In 70s when minmum wage was $2 good fabric cost between 50 cents a yard to $2. I bought on sales. I will buy and upcycle clearance clothing. I need to make a channel. I started a blog but hard to teach sewing that way.
You are saving so much stuff from ending up in landfills and turning it into fantastic items people really enjoy...not to mention taking us along for the ride. I'm glad you're having success with your new venture. You certainly have a knack for it. Well done!
Thank you so much! I'm definitely not going to get rich quick but it's a good business to make an honest living. Thank you very much for pointing out how it saves things from ending up in landfills. I think that is a major plus to my work. It makes me very happy that things aren't wasted and people aren't buying new if they buy my things

*Cory, I would have purchased the 4 small wooden frames with verbiage in them (Bless This Mess, etc.) and painted over the fabric with DIY Paint and then applied I.O.D. (Iron Orchid Designs) transfers that go together and sell them as a Set. 😊 I may have also bought the larger framed fabric saying you looked at a few seconds earlier before looking at those 4 frames - depending on the condition - and painted the fabric and added a stencil as well. It's amazing how many projects you can make with DIY Paint and I.O.D. Stencils because there are SO MANY STENCILS in a package that you can stretch your dollars REALLY FAR. 😂*
Those are seriously great ideas! Love it!
@@DesertDIY *Glad you loved those ideas. ❤💜💕*
I have watched your channel since it started, and I love it. I rarely comment, but I would love to see thrift flips and decorating. I pick up things at the thrift store and then have no clue what to do with them. I am good at crafting but am creatively challenged. Any decorating ideas are always welcome. ❤
Thank you Rachelle I'd be happy to help. In the mean time you should definitely check pinterest for ideas too
It’s very cute how you justified your never ending love of decorating your home by recycling/selling your “old” decorations. Which is why I enjoy seeing both stuff for the home episodes AND stuff for the booth equally.
Thank you Nicole
That flower painting with the chunky frame I was screaming save itttt
Haha I'm sorry!!!
I like how you mix it up: showing us thrift hauls, redoing small stuff, flipping furniture, showing your booth,….and I just watched the ugly duckling challenge from Aug 2023. It was so much fun seeing the other people, too.
Thank you so much! I need to schedule a new ugly duckling challenge
You are a breath of fresh air. Very genuine and seem kind. Love the finds
Thank you so much Daisy
New subscriber / 76 yr. old who's been drawing all my life / love your natural realness and enthusiasm. Good luck with the surgery and recovery.
Your birdhouse would be a buoy, used up here in New England! Don’t shine the teapot!! The patina is perfect!! ❤
I started shopping at the Goodwill bins 35 years ago with my son in a stroller. I shopped for kids clothes, toys, and home decor. My favorite find was a $5 vintage Singer 500 A Rocketeer sewing machine identical to my mom’s that she taught me to sew on.
Wow I had no idea the bins have been around that long
Wow. 35 years ago!
You knew before anyone knew!!!
I love watching your hauls, you still can read the old magazines we need to slow down.
I agree!
I love how I can live vicariously through you at the Goodwill bins!! You found such awesome stuff 😊😊
Yay! I am so glad to help lol. Thank you
LOL the toe tap cracked me up! Great haul! I love it all the flip and style and goodwill bin shopping.
Haha thank you! Trying to get more creative with my filming.
I love the flips but also how you display the objects in your home. I get ideas in my head as to the look I want but then can't put the aesthetic together...it doesnt alwsys come out the way I wanted. lol Love all the things you got this time! ❤️
I know exactly what you mean and it took me forever to start to be able to create what I see in my head
One of my grandma's taught me to sew by hand when l was 5 years old. The other one taught me to crochet when l was 8. Then my mom taught me to knit at 8 as well as picked up where my grandma's left off. I still do all that and more.
Love your haul. I’ve been sewing since I was 8 years old and still do and I will soon be 68. Thank you for sharing . 💗
I think it’s fun to watch people makeover the things we see them thrift. This is my first time watching you.
*Cory, that Anthropology piece is a buoy birdhouse...so CUTE‼️🤍💙*
Thank you! I knew it I just wasn't sure
Yes! It’s a buoy! Pretty cute!
I have become addicted to watching your videos. I’m just getting into reselling myself in Australia but we don’t have the lovely big thrift stores that you have and our prices are definitely higher. You are such a hard worker. I’m feeling so inspired so thank you❤
You can do it! Thank you so much
Any thrift shopping and then flipping is ehat I personally like to see, no matter if your selling it or decorating with it. Have watched for years now, your doing great!
Same here.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you saying that
I definitely should be a flipper. I love to decorate my 124 yr old home that we've been renovating for 42 yrs. Lol. I love to craft and would love to open an stay store. Ill keep dreaming. Love your ideas and look forward to your videos.
Don’t toss the clocks if they don’t work. Go to a craft and buy a replacement clock works and you can have a working clock for a few dollars you have a working clock. Reuse the old clock hands if they look better. Also easy to do. Love all your videos they keep getting better and better.
That's a great idea thank you so much
Sherry, at Canterbury cottage does amazing things with old clocks, and it’s fine that they don’t work..
*The next bigger size plate after the bread and butter plate is the salad plate. Cory. 😊 I hope you don't mind so many comments from me on this one video of yours‼️ I am watching your video and stopping to comment as you ask us questions or if I see something I think you would want to know, LOL. 😁*
I appreciate it Leslie. Salad plate! Yes!
The wood signs I would get. You can always take things off and add to to make them different. Also the painting with the red or pink flower would have been a must.
Thrift flips and going thrifting are the best for me and how you decorate your booth with them ❤
Ok you got it 👍
That “stew pot” reminds me of the French Onion Soup pots that I used to get at special restaurants when I was a kid.
I buy similar items to you! I set up at a local farmers market currently, and sometimes other markets. I do more smalls since I have to pack them up and then set them up each time. And I do more paper crafts, quilling flowers to attach to frames, decoupaging, etc. Love your videos, thanks for sharing your ideas! It’s opened my mind to more possibilities! 😊
I like seeing how you decorate with the items you thrift…. But flipping is cool to watch too!
Yay! Thank you!
Watching replay. Love those flying geese! And your Oliso ♥️ so pretty! Had a good chuckle when you spotted your bras. 😆 Safe travels Robin!
How fun this looked! I would have picked up the floral painting of a bouquet towards the first of the bins video.
I know exactly which one you are talking about
I like seeing a variety of approaches. I enjoy the hauls, especially since thrift shopping is not great in my area, but my favorites are what you do to the pieces and how you stage them in your booth.
Can’t tell you how much you make me smile and laugh! Thank you for being you!
You found some amazing things!! Flips is what I enjoy😊
Flips for booth is my favorite. However, both are helpful. Your channel is great!!
I love all the things you got, especially the little cookie tin. So cute!
Y'all have great stuff at your bins! ❤
My mom on 2 separate occasions found money in a purse she bought from a Goodwill. The first time was $150 a couple years later $200! The first time she tried to take the money into Goodwill and ask them if they can find the owner, but they told her there was no way they would ever be able to find the owner. So the next time which was just recently she was shocked to find that much again in a purse.
That is incredible. And it is true, there is no way to return it, so finders keepers. How cool is that! She is one lucky lady
I bought a purse at thrift store and found $100 in it!
Hi there, I’m fairly new to your channel. I’ve been watching your thrift shopping a lot, but I really enjoy when you take an item, make it over and then put it into a vignette to show how it would be displayed in your home/My Home
Love this! My favorite is the tin, gorgeous! I love both hauls and remakes and of course when you show us your booth. The best is probably paiting/redoing small stuff. That's my thing😊
Thank you for letting me know I really appreciate it! I will sure do that
Great haul, great video.
I like seeing the hauls, the flips and fixes, the home decore, and the booth setup...so all of it 😊
Yay! I'm so glad
You make me jealous. LOL. Love what you pick. Can't wait to watch you flip this stuff.
Thank you Jennie! I am so glad we have similar taste! These next videos are going to be great ones for you!
You are so fun to watch, your content is wonderful. Keep smiling and stay cool!
Thank you Carolyn!
You are such a joy to watch. I hope your resell business is a big success.
SUPER LOVE the copper heart and the wooden mortar cup!! Both very cool!
Such cool stuff!!!
@@DesertDIY *MEEE TOOO‼️*
*I L❤️VE THEM BOTH❣️💜💕*
PS : God bless your husbond, for supporting you, it’s a Gift ❣️
💐 Ann from DK
Thank you!
Both ideas are great!!!
My one (and only) trip to the goodwill bins was just a couple months ago. I got about half of what you had in your cart in that first bit. Same kind of stuff; a basket, couple frames, medium (thin) wood crate… the 2 heavy things I had, they took out of the cart and charged $7 a piece for (great deal for those) but the rest of the half-full cart of basically nothing, they tried charging me $124 for. I was like, “yeah, no. Not happening. That’s literally more than what this whole cart would have cost me brand new!” So I will not be going back. 😂 But I do enjoy watching you and a couple of other DIYers treasure hunt there. I can live vicariously 😂
Oh my gosh! I wonder if they weighed it wrong? How crazy!
@@DesertDIY It was weird. And then I saw one of your videos a couple days after that where you mentioned that they gave you a credit for your next trip because they over charged you. So I thought, maybe it’s actually possible. 😂
You did amazing ❤❤❤. I love the shopping and the flipping videos the most but I love seeing your booth too
Thank you Paula!
I always love watching to the end❤. You are so sweet and I love that you keep things real 💗💗💗💗you are a blessing!
That is such an incredibly huge compliment thank you so much
I love watching you and all your finds. Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you Barbara! I am glad to have you here, too!
I would’ve gotten the Susan Branch book for myself! I’m a big fan of her are and sensibility.
Good eye
This is what i love. Having a good dig in the charity shops in England makes me happy 😊
Yes it makes for a great day
I loved that you filled and scooted the crate along with your foot! A wonderful haul!
Haha good catch. Thank you
I love the variety of all you do. You do an amazing job! Tfs ❤
Thank you so much Shelly
I like both things you want to do. House I like better than booth.. We used to buy storage rooms at auction, and for 30 years I had a box by my front door of stuff to go out. I'd bring stuff in. It was fun and I loved it and miss it.
I absolutely love the tin! They're great for storing small things. I have them in almost every room in the house. I would live to gave it!
Such a good idea!
Just LOVE that I found you!! I would love more on decorating with what you find than decorating your booth. But I love everything about your channel…from the shopping to everything else!!❤
Thank you so much!
I always look at the frames in the painting section. If a picture has non-glare glass and is a standard size, i get it. You can change the picture or use them to frame your own paintings or drawings. I sometimes leave the original print in the frame behind the picture I use, because if i change the color scheme in a room, the original might work well.
Love all your newer content and thanks for the extra at the end with the mistakes..your the sweetest human! Congrats on your new business.
Thank you so much Michelle! All the hard work is starting to pay off hopefully
The patina on the coffee pot is perfect ❤. I collect that finish on silver plate
That's good to know
So I just experienced my first goodwill, outlets or bins for the first time over the weekend. It was crazy and you’re right most of the time it’s. Clothes but this particular outlet was all shoes they made a mad dash for the shoes. Not too much stuff and you’re right the Goodwill in, my county in Tennessee is very very expensive. I’ve noticed the price is going up. Somethings that Goodwill marks higher than the original price which I’ll never understand but great hall. Thanks again for the video.
Thank you Lisa. Isn't it crazy? I'll never understand that either.
Raymond Waites is/was a high end designer. He liscenced to Toyo, probably during the 90s. His stuff was in a lot of higher end furniture stores❤
Love all the stuff you got at goodwills
Thank you I am so glad
Great haul!
All the coffee mugs you can make into floral arrangements to sell with fresh flowers, add a little mylar ballloon and a bow. Check out the prices at your neighborhood florists, unreal !! Dollar tree stores sell the balloons and ribbon and if you have Publix supermarkets where you live, a lot of times they have fresh cut flowers buy one get one free.
Great idea!
Love it all!
I love seeing the thrift flips for decorating!
Thank you so much Erin! I love having you here
Love all your stuff
I love everything you grabbed. I have a booth. I am closing in April. Its too much. The summers here in Arizona are too dead and i end up paying my rent out of pocket. I dont do furniture. Best wishes to you with your booth adventures.
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. I am a bit worried about the slow times coming up but we will see!
Thrift stores have raised prices as so much demand for flipping and resale. I love reusing, repurposing and such for my life! Heck, I haven't bought "NEW" jeans in years, that's how I budget for kids stuff. Love your ideas
Thank you Janet.
I love everything that you do, so I would like to see a little or even a lot, lol, of thrifting, decorating with thrift finds, and your DIYS as well!!😊❤
Thank you! I'll get on it!
I love, love, love that Daher tin. So pretty. I would love to see how you style your DIYs, but I'm also interested in seeing the furniture flips.
Maybe I can find a way to do both! Thank you Vickie
Another great haul Cory! You are just soooo good at thrifting! I just finished an old buffet that had the doors just like yours…I popped that curved piece out and put cane webbing in them…it looks really good too! Hope you have lots of sales this week! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Ooo I like that idea! Thank you Kim!
I always enjoy your videos!
Thank you!
Thank you so much
🙋. It was me that said my husband worked at Goodwill (thankfully not anymore) and people would remove the sticker's all the time to try and get a cheaper price. It would blow your mind how often same people would repeatedly do it 😅. My daughter work's at Walmart and many things people do there are just as bad. One guy used a sharpie and wrote $3 on a mop and argued the store marked it that way 😅😅😅😅😅. This world is crazy. Glad you were able to get that plate for what you wanted! Nice haul❤
That is hilarious! I wish I could just write the price I want to pay with a sharpie lol. Thank you so much for sharing that Intel with us all! I appreciate it. It's good to know
Fantastic haul! You went through the bins like a boss🤣🤣. I would have picked up the metal clock at the bins to up cycle. I would be happy to watch what you do for your home, or the booth..either way it’s so enjoyable 💖.
Thank you so much Julie! I have to really plan out my time accordingly these days haha. That clock was super heavy so it would've cost maybe $12 by itself by the weight so I didn't get it
Love the cookie tin, I'd definitely snatch that one from your booth! ❤
I will be opening up an etsy store very soon!
❤your thrifting and showing your haul. I like seeing your home and how you decorate. Like to see your booth and how you style it. You are such a talented young woman.
Thank you so much Anita. 💓 I am so grateful for your sweet compliments
How exciting! As I was watching your video, I was thinking about which item and how you are going to renovate or change it. :)) Can't wait for the new DIY videos!
Yay! Thank you Bella. I'm excited to do all these projects
I love how you decorate your house and vote for anything to do with that.
Thank you so much Michelle!
All ideas are amazing
Thank you!
At the bins I would have grabbed the gray cover off the square pillow and the tiny Christmas trees but all the stuff you got were great items! Massive haul, excellent job!
Thank you Deana!
I have been pulling stuff out of my balcony storage closet to move into my storage locker, so l can build some shelves. While cleaner out the closet, l found 2 pieces of boards that are just the right size to make 2 of those risers you made in one of your videos
Love your flipping videos; regardless of whether its for your home or shop.
Thank you Karen. You got it 👍
Wow you got some really good stuff! I love watching you redo stuff to sell in your booth!
Thank you! More of that coming up!
It looks like you're going to be busy Corey! Love your videos, can't wait to see a few makeovers ❤
Oh thats for sure! Thank you!
Hey, Corie--you're right...this was a great haul! The basket your going to paint for Easter... I'd paint it white and then use all of your pastel colors for the woven band pieces towards the bottom of it! Pink, blue, yellow, mint green, etc. I think that'd be really pretty! I respect your diligence in your business! You and your husband are a great team and you adapt so well to all of the changes in your lives! Keep up the great work! It'll pay off. Plus, I LOVE watching your haul and trash to treasure and flip videos! ☺️🌈
Thank you so much Katharine! We have been married 15 years this year 😀
@@DesertDIY that's wonderful! I enjoy watching you each switch off on working with your projects. It's so nice to see that! ❤️
You have a great personality when you talk about your finds! Hope things are going well for you.
Thank you so much Mary
Love those frames 😊
Thank you Lynn!
Hurrican lamps is what we called those glass thingies. It was set on its side and styled.
Oh thank you
I'd like to see all of it!!! Its inspiring ❤
I am new to setting up a booth, and new to following you. I never make requests for help, I just sit back and learn from all you amazing people who are brave and get on TH-cam and share your talent. Now that I have said all that. I would love to see you set up your booth. Thank you for all your time. Prayers for your husband's studies.
Thank you so much Karen. You can always ask questions if you want to.
In regards to stuffed animals, sometimes I will put them in black garbage bags, tie it up tight and put them out in the sun for a couple days during a very very hot days and then of course washer and dryer.
Good idea
I have a very specific list at Goodwill, yard sales, swap meets, etc. Fortunately it's stuff other people are rarely looking for. Wool, linen, leather, fur, wood bone and iron housewares. Other Medieval/Rennfaire people understand. I buy things to make things with. People are always surprised I find these things in obscure places; and all it takes are crafting tools and time. I would love to rummage at a place like that, even for mundane goods!
I bet you make such cool stuff
You are a breath of fresh air!
Thank you!
My mom taught me to always put money in a purse or wallet when giving it away to bring good luck to both parties. Me as karma and the other person to get them started or going in life. I always leave a dollar in them ❤️
That is adorable I love it
You were zooming through them bins! Love watching your videos 😊
Thank you so much!
I would've gotten that adult walker cause I need one and all the canvas and wood art so that I can paint over them for therapy ❤
There's always limitless possibilities. Love it
I’d Love to see both home decor & your booth decor!!❤❤❤
Oh good! Check out my 2 newest videos
I love your hauls but I mostly watch to see your flips/remakes.
Thank you! You'll love my 2 newest videos
