Nothing to do with BMW... it seems that's a milestone for far too many car owners, period. Mine (E90 328xi) is about to cross 200k miles. I know people with 350-400k miles. The problem is most people don't take basic care of their vehicles and/or just get sick of them before they get that far. And, to be fair, a lot of non-European 'luxury' cars aren't all that fun/nice anymore after like 7-10 years, which is how long it takes a lot of people to get into those kind of miles.

Thomas Helm mine is convertible. 80% of the miles are highway, that helps I doubt. Having said that, the car overLl has been awesome. Here is what I had to replace:
      1. Two water pumps so far ($750 each)
      2. Obviously seals (valve cover, oil pan, etc). Standard bmw leaks - $980 for all, at around 120k miles.
      3. Most recent, turbo charge pipe (DIY) - $120
      4. Coolant extension tank (DIY) - $135
      3. Oil changes and tires.
Everything else is original, battery, etc.

ExoticCar PlayPlace On the other hand, sadly, I just sold my 2008 E60 M5 with 142k miles on it. It has original RBs, etc. had to replace throttle bodies but all in all the car was solid. I’ve definitely been lucky!

    • @thomashelm6931
      @thomashelm6931 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ep9321 Good to know! And, frankly, those costs don't seem excessive, to me.
I had a scan performed, by my independent mechanic, before the mileage warranty came up. I, then, went to the BMW people and had a few things done on warranty. The main issue, was the battery being a bit low, triggering several false faults. They replaced it for free, thus, clearing any scan. My mileage is about half and half. Half City, half freeway.
I am surprised that your original battery has lasted this long! It might help prevent some matters if it is replaced as a preventative maintenance item.
Good to hear and thanks for your input!!

120,000 miles on our 2011 x5d but with numerous codes happening. Turns out they revolve around the EGR, SCR etc. Option one- fix the broken parts. Option two- delete the EGR and redo the exhaust and tune it. The car still runs but we know something needs to happen soon. Right now we are leaning towards option #2. Love the car and have a feeling we would love it even more if we made the change.

F15D 2017 here and appreciate this video. Almost got the extended warranty but opting to pay for things as we go. What convinced us was the number of BMW extended coverages/warranty they provide for 10 years/120k miles through their Technical Service Bulletins. Not many look into those but some major issues are covered beyond initial warranty. Hope to see videos on the F15D’s!!

Your featured E70 has an M57 engine, which should go 300K miles, but you’ll need to change a number of things, including the DPF. My wifes E70 X5 with N52 engine has about 217K miles and still drives like new. As you mentioned in another video of yours, N52 remains my all time favorite. About the battery problem it's important to register a new battery whenever you get one if not the car treats it as an old one and the performance of the car gets affected. I use to have a 2010 E90 and experienced issues after I registered it the problem got solved.

I have owned my 2011 35D since Nov 2012. Off a1 year lease, and it has been the least reliable BMW I’ve owned, and after now at 255,600 km’s the Best BMW I’ve owned, and yes it takes 2nd place to my my wife’s 2016 435i Both M pkgs.. Let me explain. To make a “clean diesel”, you have to add all this complexity to what at the base is the most reliable engine. DPF, EGR, Urea injection yadayada. The biggest problem with this car is all that stuff. Warning to anyone thinking of buying one of these high mileage cars, be warned. This stuff all fails and it’s expensive. The active DPF tank is not a heater failure, it’s a level sensor, regardless, the part is $2,400 plus labour. My urea injectors was also throwing errrors. $1,300 plus labour. Then we get to the DPF. This was $5000 repair, mine was at 90% at this point. All of this was failing, and this doesn’t,t count all the O2 and other sensor failures over the years related to this stupid emissions control system to make this a clean diesel. So...this car has been a major pain, why is this my favourite BMW. Simple. ABC delete. Get rid of all the stuff that has issues, and then tune the crap out of this beast. So got a JR tuning 2.5, then their 2.8 cause I wanted more, had to tune the transmission bs the torque limiters we’re limiting all the fun and Viola, my fav BMW. After upgrades. Full ABC delete. 355.4 HP and 554.5 torque,at the wheels people. The guy operating the dyno was seriously shocked. Get rid of all the issues with this car has and it’s golden. Did this Mod over 50,000 km’s ago, wish I had done it sooner. Still have the smile, and my kid both say my car is quicker than Mom’s, both both would rather driver her’s which is fine with me.

Lexus and Acura’s are not in the same league. BMWs for example need to handle way more power than what those Lexus cars make, they carry heavier oils which means they work harder, BMWs are a higher end vehicle to maintain, either way that doesn’t mean BMWs can’t reach 400-500k, i know a couple people that are doing a little more than 500k.

Which leather does your E70 have? In my F30 the leather (Dakota black) on the driver seat is already a bit worn out, although the car only has 22k miles on it. I bought it used 10 months ago. Back in November the seat looked like if it had seen several years of usage. Seems the leather in my car came in a poor quality right from the factory. I tried to get a new one for the driver's seat, but BMW refused to do it. The rest of the materials are in mint condition as you'd expect from a 2 year old BMW.

If u are looking for reliability and low operating / maintenance , buy a Lexus or Toyota. You buy a German luxury vehicle for the prestige of ownership to tell others how well you are doing, so money should not be a problem. This is only an issue for those buy it for status symbol but don't have the wealth to go along with it. Most of these vehicles are leased and not purchased.

I just purchased a 2012 X5 35d with 100k miles for $13k USD....it was a one owner with full service history at a local BMW dealer. He replaced the glow plugs and glow plug module replaced, brake fluid, and rear air bags changed before I got it. I just changed the air filter, in cabin filters (all three), upgraded my sound system with Bavsound components and had the differential fluids changed, transfer case fluid changed, trans fluid/filter and sleeves replaced, all new rotors and pads/sensors, water pump and thermostat replaced, and the oil/oil filter and DEF topped off...I had the same shop look at the harmonic balancer which has some small cracks but no tears in it. Am I missing any preventative maintenance items for a 2012 E70 diesel?
The previous owner used the vehicle for trips from southern CA to San Francisco and I also commute 30 miles to and from work. I’d sincerely appreciate any recommendations you have. Cheers.
