Hey Sean, these fish well in stained water, but I've also had luck when the rivers are crystal clear. I've only chased steelhead here in the west, but I'm positive they will work there as well! Good luck!
I just tied up about 2 dozen of these in both colors. I used a peacock Mylar for dubbing on the pink one. And a chartreuse ice dub on the other. Do you generally fish these in stained water? And are you in the steelhead alley because that is where I will be fishing them
Hey Matt, that's the beauty of fly tying... you can do it however you feel is best! When I started tying this fly years ago there wasn't a reliable UV coating. However, in the past few years that has changed. There are many reliable UV resins out there. I'm sure it would work fantastically.
+Max Audette If you are in the west and have a Sportsman's Warehouse close by that's where I pick mine up at. I'm not sure where to look online. If I can find anyone selling it I will post it.
The actual name of the material is Arizona Simi Seal. You can get it here: store.flyfishfood.com/Arizona-Simi-Seal-p/azss.htm It's great stuff. So is the Mega Simi Seal.
Great pattern ! I tie a pattern almost like this except my bead is purple chrome , rib is purple and Purple Ice Dub is used for the collar...Brown Trout and Steelhead love it...I am going to tie a few in pink ....Thanks!
Mumbles & mumbles. If you're going to mumble through the whole video, kindly provide a materials list in the video description. Or edit the subtitles, have someone else narrate for you!!!
Thanks so much for the comment on this free content that you've so casually consumed with only the effort of a single mouse click. While we spent hours creating this video (not to mention the years it takes to develop a fly of this caliber). Please remember that there is a real person who has given their blood and sweat to give you FREE content. At least try not to be a jerk when whining about their content... especially when the other 35,919 people that have viewed this video didn't have a problem at all hearing, understanding, or comprehending my speech in this video. Sorry it didn't work out for you, but I hope this helps you stop and think next time before you decide to leave a comment degrading the one who actually put forth the time and effort to share this content with the world. If someone were to share this with you face to face in the exact same way, would you repeatedly call them a mumbler to their face? I doubt it, I'm sure your mother taught you more respect and manners than that... at least I hope so. If you wouldn't act this way in person, at least think about it before you comment this way on the internet. You left me a suggestion, so I thought I'd repay the favor with a suggestion of my own. Have a good night, and a good weekend!

also, put the "hard as nails " on the bead head to help protect the paint
Hi Gilbert - what size hook are you using?
I tie this fly on a size 8 Dai-Riki 135. Here is a link to more info flytying123.com/black-jack-steel-steelhead-nymph-pattern/01/14/2015/
is the dubbing a combination of colors?
Nope, just a cool product. Black Semi-Seal (Pink) or Peacock Semi-Seal (Chartreuse).
Great video. I may have missed it but what size hook are you using?
Thanks! Here's a link to the recipe flytying123.com/black-jack-steel-steelhead-nymph-pattern/01/14/2015/

It's great stuff. So is the Mega Simi Seal.
use hi-vis fly line backing(20#) for the rib, it shows up better
Great suggestion, I'm sure that will "pop". Thanks!

Thanks Ken! The purple variation sounds deadly. I'm sure you will quickly fall in love with the pink as well ;-)
